What’s Stoping You From Being A Model?

Have you ever thought about being a Model? If so what’s stopping, you? As a little girl or boy have you dreamed of walking the runway, doing photo shoots or even having your face on the cover of a magazine, maybe you just want to be apart of the fashion world. If you said yes to all of this then I’m about to give you the guidelines to help you-

become a Fashion Runway Model.

You don’t have to uproot your life and move to NYC to start your career as a model, but where you live can determine the types of gigs available to you. If you’re down to star in a local magazine, commercial, or catalog, check out the agents in your hometown. Another tip is to identify a few models who look like you and ask them for modeling gig advice. They may be able to set you up with an agent who can get you a lot of work in whatever modeling niche you want to pursue, whether that be in the plus-size, fitness, or cosmetic spheres. Take care of your skin, hair, body, and health. Like it or not, modeling is an aesthetically-driven industry, and beauty/appearance is undeniably important. (That being said, you can still make it as a commercial model regardless of physical beauty or body type.) However, for fashion models, the height/weight standards are more rigid and inflexible than with any other genre in modeling. There’s not much you can do about genetics, but it IS up to you to make the most of the genetics you were given

You must adhere your own thorough beauty regimen. Many supermodels use the following habits as part of their beauty routine, including but not limited to the following: drinking water like a fish throughout the day to stay hydrated and keep skin supple, not smoking, keeping alcohol to a minimum or abstaining, exfoliating/washing/moisturizing face every morning and evening, wearing SPF, never going to sleep in their makeup, regular manicures and hair appointments, taking a multivitamin, working out 4-5 days per week, maintaining a strict diet / meal plan, among many more. Looking and feeling your best will only benefit you no matter how you look at it – professionally or personally. It is a win-win. But in this case, having your beauty habits nailed down is absolutely a career advantage for any aspiring fashion model. A model who takes care of her appearance is much more of an asset than a lazy one with poor hygiene and no motivation to look her best.

If you do not fit the current fashion model requirements (height/weight), there are many other genres in the modeling industry that you can pursue instead. Some aspiring models think that if they are not scouted by an agency they don’t have the potential, and we disagree! We know there is a lot of potential out there, and that’s why Bellah Modeling Agency gives the chance to all those aspiring models, (male, female and androgynous) to be seen and scouted!

5 steps to keep in mind while you are getting your modeling career started.

1. Choose An Agent That Best Represents You

2. Take Modelling Classes

3. Know and Understand Your Best Angles

4. Work Under Pressure And Extreme Circumstances

5. Develop Thick Skin

If you think you got what it takes to be a Bellah Model please contact Bellah Modeling Agency.

Anyone who has ever watched America’s Next Top Model knows that modeling isn’t all smiling and free designer clothes. It’s tough

Monkee’s of Columbia

In 2013, after raising three children, including two girls who love fashion, I felt it was time to return to the workplace and do something that would be exciting and that I would love. After a career in fine art and interior design, I decided to follow my lifelong passion of owning my own fashion boutique.

This dream became a reality, when after years of shopping at Monkee’s stores throughout the Southeast; the opportunity presented itself to bring Monkee’s to Columbia. Seven years later, our passion is still fueled by our love of fashion, the ever changing styles and trends, our wonderful customer relationships and the opportunity to continue to work with my daughter Reece, who co-manages the store.

What sets you apart from other boutiques in your area?

Columbia is well known for women’s boutique shopping, with many options available. At Monkee’s, we focus on providing a shopping experience that goes well beyond the norm. This includes offering high-quality designer brands, many that are exclusive to Columbia, a talented and well educated staff, and a liberal approval and return policy.

In addition, Monkee’s of Columbia places excellent customer service as our top priority. We provide honest feedback in a very relaxed environment. Our goal is to uncover what customers actually want and need, while focusing on even the smallest detail to help you look and feel your best.

hen you put your faith in God, wondrous things can happen.

Sometimes we take a path that is not exactly what others would have intended for us but as I say if we want to make God laugh tell him your plans. Samantha Reeves has been laid by her faith throughout her entire life and has faced the judgment of others just like many of us have. Sometimes people will tell us what they think the plan for our lives should be and when we go off course, they see what they call failure. Reeves was a woman of God and a woman of faith who decided that she was going to defy the odds and create great things in her life with Him at the forefront. Having created a plan for her business before the pandemic, along came a time that no one expected in their lives and once again the course changed but with her continued faith and her diligence to learn more

Wife, Mother, and Businesswoman is Building an Impressive Brand and a Lifelong Legacy

Bellah Affiare had a chance to talk with Reeves about some of life setbacks and how she overcame them and is building a brand that will live on as her legacy. As the owner of Sassy Chic Event Designs, Reeves and her company provide elaborate event designs for the enjoyment and memories of their clients. Meet rising entrepreneur, Samantha Reeves!

I am a native of South Carolina. I was born and raised right here in Columbia. I have been happily married for the past eight years and I am the mom of three beautiful children, all girls, in our blended family. I come from a family where wealth was not taught to us. We didn’t always see that side of life and I grew up knowing that I wanted more. While I was surrounded by entrepreneurs and gained a lot of valuable knowledge from those people in my life, I also knew that there were other things that I was not exposed to so I always knew that I wanted more or better for my family and children. It was when I had my 2nd child that I began to think more about building the legacy something that I could leave behind. I wanted a home and family. I wanted to be a model and get into pageants but I became a teenage mom and many people considered me a failure. Everyone wanted me to go to college and take another path. After having my girls and realizing that they were watching me I wanted to give them a different

example to follow. That was one of the biggest things that drove my decision to build my business. I started out making treats and pastries and it was doing really well but I was also working in corporate America at the same time and it began to be a lot. I knew that I always loved creating things and I remember watching my aunt throw a party for every occasion when I was a kid. That always stayed with me and I stepped into event design but with the demand from the pastry business along with event design, it became too much so I was blessed to be able to send my clients to a family member that was in the past business and focus full time on building my event production company. I make sure to get my accreditations. I need to have those credentials to make sure I was doing things the right way. I also spent a lot of time learning about different techniques and skills as well as the things that were necessary in order to be able to run a business.

I would be up during the wee hours of the morning sometimes just studying and researching because I loved what I did and I wanted to know more and I wanted to be the best that I could be. I ended up finding a mentor because I wanted to learn from someone that knew more than I did and it wasn’t until late in my life that I realized the importance of having a mentor. I learned a lot of things by doing research on my own as well. I was always thirsty for more knowledge about the industry and the business. I took it upon myself to fill myself with knowledge. I think that was super important. Knowing your business and always being a student of your craft is the number one, and most important thing you can do. Find your niche and hone in on that! Also, knowing when and how to pivot is very important. Know that you are going to have to stretch yourself and do some things even when you feel fear or don’t feel ready. You have to feel that fear and move anyway.

“Carolina-born Reeves is building her family and her business with God at the center.”
Bellah Fashion Magazine

I believe that each event should be a production and creates a memory so it should be a reflection of you.

It is because of God and my faith in Him that I don't look like half of the things that I’ve been through. Sometimes people will look at you and assume that you just got here without going through anything but it has been because of my faith in God that some people can’t even imagine some of the things that I’ve been through even in these last few years with building my business and having to learn more about myself. I have had to learn how to do more and to stretch myself into trusting God and having faith in Him to lead me. Sometimes there are surprises in your business that you didn’t expect and sometimes your personal life will even surprise your business but it has been through my faith in God that I have been able to continue to move forward, even through times of uncertainty.

The perfect way to close this out would be to tell us more about your business Sassy Chic Event Design. Let’s hear more about it and what inspires you I wouldn’t say that there is necessarily any one thing that inspires me, in particular, because I am inspired by so many different things as a creative person. I may see something that sparks an idea and use that. I do, also, have a trusted group of people that I bounce ideas off of but very often what I design is the product of me just trying something new. I can’t even take the credit. I just thank God. Oftentimes, I don’t even know where the ideas or the inspiration comes from so if I had to pick anything or a person or people that would be an inspiration I would certainly say God and my children because my children do provide me with moments that spark ideas as well

Reeves says that she will continue to build her brand and continue to keep God at the center of everything she does. She offers coaching and is planning to expand her classes and her community where she will discuss topics on issues that arise in business. She also has some exciting new events coming down the pike so keep your eyes open for this Faithful Businesswoman!

With fashion trends scaling from bright greens to casual sequins, bold combinations are showing no signs of slowing down this season. Check out our favorite new looks featuring themes from Spring/Summer collections around the Village.

We love the mermaid trend, a new aesthetic growing in popularity on both social media and the runways. Sparkle just like Ariel in a sequin dress from La Vie Style House paired with a metallic purple Miron Crosby boot. Tie it all together with a Chanel Classic bag, an on-theme ring and glowing skin protected by easy SPF from Bluemercury for an outfit that will make you look like a catch.

Your new everyday outfit is calling! A button-down and jeans never goes out of style. Update this staple look with a baggy jean from FRAME and a modern-cut button-down from rag & bone. Don’t forget to throw in a trendy yet timeless denim logo bag from Celine because denim accessories are everywhere. Top off your new look with a signature scent and a contemporary earring.

Have you had your dose of greens today? Draping dresses are a popular silhouette. This green, flowy halter from FRAME is perfect for any elevated occasion. Ditch your neutral accessories and pair different shades of green together for a showstopping look. No outfit is complete without a staple bag, so a green and glittery Valentino is a must-have. Finally, keep your skin glowing like this ensemble with the help of Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Hyaluronic Serum and a glittering gloss.

TGIF...literally! With summer quickly approaching, it’s time to live for the weekends. Your perfect sunny day outfit is here and beaming with color. The ideal yellow dress from La Ligne pairs beautifully with a Dior natural raffia bag, Hermès red sandals and nail polish to match, and Lele Sadoughi art deco earrings.
