Sanford Faculty & Staff Members Pay it Forward Sanford’s teachers and administrators frequently share their talent and expertise in the community, with professional organizations,

and at conferences and workshops. Here are a few examples of how Team Sanford paid it forward during the 2013–2014 school year.

Arts Chairperson Clint Williams was named President-Elect of the Delaware Music Educators Association, served on the Delaware Symphony Orchestra’s Education Committee, and served on the senior All-State Chorus Committee for Delaware.

of Communications & Marketing Cheryl Fleming served as a workshop facilitator at WhippleHill’s UC 2014 conference in Boston, Massachusetts. Admission Assistant Ceil Baum, Systems & Network Administrator Dave May, Technology Coordinator Amanda Heberton, Middle School Technology Teacher Jen Nightengale, and Upper School Librarian and Technology Integration Coordinator Sandy Sutty participated in the conference.

School Librarian and Technology Integration Coordinator Sandy Sutty served on the UD/Lib Search Website Advisory Board. Arts Chairperson Betty O’Regan wrote an article titled “The Value of Play.” Betty’s work was published in School Arts Magazine, a national publication.

• Performing Arts Instructor Sarah Kuwik played trumpet in the Newark Symphony and also played in the pit of Annie for the Brandywiners this summer at Longwood Gardens. • Head of Upper School Lynn Casto and Upper School Science Instructor Jamy Moreno attended the People of Color Conference at Gaylord National Harbor outside of Washington, D.C.

of Athletics Joan Samonisky served as a member of the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA) Sportsmanship Committee and the DIAA Field Hockey Tournament Committee. She was also named a Delaware Independent School Conference representative for the Delaware Association of Athletic Directors.

Arts Instructor Cera Babb served on the following committees—the American Choral Director’s Association (ACDA) as State Secretary, and the Voices United Board as Interest Sessions Chair. Her involvement in outside organizations included serving as a choir director for the University of Delaware Children’s Choir, leading a Soprano I Section for Schola Cantorum, participating in workshops and performances in Aix-en-Provence, France, for the Delaware Choral Symposium, and co-teaching and directing for the University of Delaware Children’s Choir Camp. Cera has also coordinated, co-composed, and directed the University of Delaware Children’s Choir in an original work at the Master Players Concert Series, and facilitated a reading session for elementary choral music for the annual ACDA Rehoboth Beach Choral Workshop.

• Lower School faculty members Barbara Kanter and Trish Harmer attended the Reading ASSIST CORE Conference

at the University of Delaware’s Clayton Hall. Languages Instructor Elizabeth Glen Capone was selected for a Fellowship at the Klingenstein Summer Institute for Early Career Teachers (Summer 2014) at Columbia Teachers College. Elizabeth also participated in the University of Delaware Community Choir called Schola Cantorum, singing Soprano 1 or Soprano 2 parts. • World
