Brian Douglas, M.B.A., Assistant Director for Finance, Operations, and Technology Susan Assouline, Ph.D., Belin-Blank Center Director Overview of IOAPA 2001-2016 Since its inception in 2001, the Iowa Online AP Academy (IOAPA) has had a significant, positive impact on the landscape of advanced course taking opportunities for Iowa’s highly capable high school students. Because of the online format of the coursework and supporting materials, geography is no longer a barrier for opportunity for challenge. The funding that supports the Belin-Blank Center infrastructure for IOAPA has led to: 1. More students registering for Advanced Placement (AP) classes; 2. More students benefitting from the online exam review; 3. More teachers receiving professional development through the Advanced Placement Teacher Training Institute; 4. Development of the Iowa AP Index, which ranks the top 50 schools according to the number of AP exams administered annually; 5. Implementation of AP preparation opportunities for middle school students. 1
