Yasmin is an artist and photographer based in Canberra, Australia. Her artistic journey expanded and evolved at the Australian National University (ANU), where she graduated with First-Class Honours in Visual Arts, specialising in Photomedia. She won the Canberra Museum and Gallery (CMAG) Photography Award 2023, through the 2023 CAPO Grants round.

Yasmin’s creative pursuits encompass portraiture, documentary photography, and the captivating world of floral imagery. Her passion lies in storytelling through photography, particularly through documentary projects within the community. Of course, she is not confined to the lens. Her artistic repertoire extends to creating photobooks, writing poetry, batik silk painting, printmaking and sculptures. Through diverse mediums, she explores the multifaceted nature of creativity and human expression.

"YazElations" is a transformative art series born out of a commitment to sustainability and creativity. In 2022, while working in a framing shop, Yasmin salvaged discarded frames and waste materials destined for landfill, crafting them into intricate three-dimensional works of art. Each YazElation is a unique creation, inspired by tessellation patterns and guided by the materials themselves. Meticulously crafted without a predetermined image, these pieces can take months to complete. These unusual artworks reflect her dedication to repurposing industrial waste into visually striking artworks that highlight the beauty in everyday rubble.

Through YazElations, Yasmin aims to raise awareness about environmental conservation and the boundless creative potential of recycling, showcasing the transformative power of art in promoting sustainability. Each YazElation is a testament to the beauty found in repurposed materials and serves as a reminder of the importance of mindful consumption and innovative reuse in our modern world.

Eclipse symbolizes the convergence of the mundane and the celestial, drawing inspiration from a round wooden door knob and the recent eclipse in North America. Aladdin's Cave

Aladdin's Cave and Princess Jasmine's Boudoir are a tribute to the transformative power of repurposed materials and the beauty found in imperfection. Inspired by the luscious gold frame pieces surrounding the larger mirrors within (originally a single bespoke gold frame), these artworks breathe new life into salvaged elements. The opulent gold pieces elegantly contrast against the black backdrop, creating a tapestry of wealth and extravagance. The glass components, once mundane objects for electrical insulation, now find new purpose as charming vases for dried flowers, infusing the compositions with a touch of uniqueness and creativity. Through the juxtaposition of luxurious elements and repurposed materials, Aladdin's Cave and Princess Jasmine's Boudoir invite viewers to contemplate the beauty that emerges from the fusion of history, craftsmanship, and artistic vision.
