A NEW WAY TO ACHIEVE WITH WILLOUGHBY-EASTLAKE CITY SCHOOLS

Willoughby-Eastlake ONLINE ACADEMY. . . . . . will provide the community with an alternative instructional program to in-person learning for students in grades K-12.

Instructional Opportunities

Instructional Model Follow Ohio Learning Standards Willoughby-Eastlake certified teachers will provide direct instruction via live, online lessons.

Whole group instruction, small group instruction, and independent learning The Academy's blended learning model provides instruction through a combination of online learning with minimal in-person attendance requirements.

For student's with an IEP, the IEP team will meet to determine how to address necessary, personalized instruction.

Core coursework and elective classes will be available.

Electives at the high school level will be determined based on staffing and online options.

Online students in grades 9-12 may have opportunities to enroll in limited classes at their homeschool depending on staffing and scheduling capacities.

Advanced coursework is available to qualified students in grades 7-12, schedule permitting.

Navigating Student Needs Steve Thompson Superintendent Willoughby-Eastlake City Schools Hello and welcome to the Willoughby-Eastlake Online Academy! We are excited to announce our new online learning opportunity for Willoughby-Eastlake students. The Academy's online format was developed to engage learners while meeting the needs of families in today's world. Online Academy students will participate in a rigorous and relevant experience while receiving the care and professionalism known throughout the WilloughbyEastlake district.

Students will be able to earn their high school diploma in an environment that provides opportunities for them to engage with their teachers and peers, think critically, and be creative.

This blended learning approach delivers instruction primarily through an online delivery model with some in-person options for the completion of local, state and district testing. Students will acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to grow as independent learners and contributing members of the community.

The Online Academy option is available for district residents in grades K-12.

Regular pick-up days will be scheduled for parents to receive supplies

Technology Schoology Learning Management System Each student will be provided with a district Chromebook Families must provide internet access and uses to a printer as required.

Staffing The Online Academy teaching staff is comprised of Willoughby-Eastlake City Schools Teachers certified in grades K-12.

The professional development for the teaching staff focuses on: implementation of Ohio’s Learning Standards best instructional practices the integration of technology in the online school format.

General Operations The Online Academy will follow the Willoughby-Eastlake school district calendar.

Student fees will apply based on classes and supplies required.

All district policies apply Online Academy Parent, Teacher and Student Handbook and the District Code of Conduct will be followed.

Student Activities Students may participate in athletics and extracurricular opportunities at their home school.

Online Academy clubs may be created for students based on their interests.

Activities may be planned to address social-emotional needs Academic Virtual Field trips

Path to Graduation Students are required to meet the Ohio Department of Education and district requirements for graduation Students will be expected to participate in all local, district and state required assessments

Online Academy PTO The Online Academy PTO is a Parent, Teacher Organization which works together to promote a positive, caring, and supportive team for students, staff, and families. The PTO will be comprised of a board which will help manage and assist in activities, events, and fundraising for the school.
