was a night when everyone that is connected with the Methodist School of Music (MSM), namely the management committee, the teachers, the staff, the students, the sponsors, friends and supporters, came together to remember and to give thanks to God for his goodness and faithfulness in the seventeen years since the school came into existence.

In April, 150 guests congregated at Foochow Methodist Church where the anniversary celebration was held. The MSM ringers ďŹ lled the worship hall with sweet sounds from the hand-bells to the melody of “Seek Ye Firstâ€? as the prelude prepared the hearts of the worshipers. A four-piece worship band led by Ms Shernise Khor, our keyboard teacher, led the worshipers in a time of praise.

In my welcome message , I shared with the worshipers the ministry of the school highlighting two new initiatives that were launched last year. The CertiďŹ cate in Christian Worship was launched last June while the Methodist Festival Choir was formed in August. Both programmes were aligned with the mission and vision of the school in equipping the people of God to make joyous music in adoration and praise, to offer up genuine worship to the Lord. The Bishop Emeritus Dr. Robert Solomon was the Guest-of-Honor who shared the message of God with the worshiping community. Taking reference from Psalm 105:1-4, Dr. Solomon highlighted three areas about thanksgiving: Thankful Methodist, Thankful Music and Thankful Ministries. Dr. Solomon encouraged the worshipers to be thankful Methodists who sing and
make music with thanksgiving in their hearts. With thankfulness in our hearts, the worshipers were urged to enter into the spiritual harvest, God’s mission in the world in response to the gracious and loving God. The memorable celebration service ended with the singing of Martin Rinkart’s 17th century hymn “Now Thank We All Our Godâ€?, which was the theme of MSM 17th anniversary celebration. I believe that the night etching on their minds was not only the memory of the events of the past year but also the steadfast afďŹ rmation that God’s hand was in all of them. As the Methodist School of Music continues to fulďŹ ll the mission and vision to which she is commissioned, we are conďŹ dent that the one who calls us is faithful, and he will continue to be faithful (1 Thess. 5:24) in leading the school forward.Ćž
