IN THE COMMUNITY BRAMCOTE TENNIS COURTS REFURBISHED ASPIRING TENNIS PLAYERS in Bramcote can enjoy newly refurbished Tennis Courts at King George IV Park thanks to funding from Fields in Trust.

The improvements including new ball stop fencing to replace ageing existing fencing were made thanks to a £2000 grant from Fields in Trust, along with a similar amount of match funding from Broxtowe Borough Council.

This is the second tennis site in the Borough to be refurbished in the last two years, with major improvements made to the tennis courts at Queen Elizabeth Park, Stapleford last year thanks to Fields in Trust funding.

The courts at Bramcote are free for public use and open year round.

They can become busy and at peak times the Council would ask users to limit their court time to an hour to allow others to make use of the facility. Limited on-site parking is also free to park users who can also enjoy woodland and wildflower meadow walks, open grass for informal play and a small junior play area.

Long Eaton Operatic Society Youth Group proudly presents.......Seussical JR Seussical Jr is based on the works of Dr. Seuss and weaves together his most famous tales, Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat and other characters from at least fifteen of his books. The Cat in the Hat is the narrator, and the show follows the adventures of Horton, an elephant who one day hears voices coming from a speck of dust. He soon discovers that within this tiny speck exists the smallest planet in the universe! On this tiny planet live a tiny race of creatures known as the Whos. Although ridiculed by the other animals in the Jungle of Nool for believing in something he cannot see, Horton stubbornly persists in his belief that the Whos exist. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!

The youngsters are very busy rehearsing and are looking forward to presenting this lively production, brimming over with energy and a sparkling musical score, where everyone gets their moment to shine.

The show takes place from Thursday 3rd to Saturday 5th July 2014, starting at 7.30pm, with a matinee performance on Saturday at 2.30pm. IN THE COMMUNITY GRASS VERGE CUTTING RECOMMENCES IN BROXTOWE SPRING IS IN BLOOM and the first cut of the grass verges is now complete in Broxtowe Borough following an agreement between Broxtowe Borough, Ashfield District and Mansfield District Councils and Nottinghamshire County Council.

As part of a collaborative approach to offer the best and most efficient service possible, the three Councils have been awarded responsibility for delivering key environmental services on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council.

The agreement, which will run for at least three years, will mean that the three district councils undertake all grass cutting and weed control on the public highway, alongside the other environmental services they already provide.

The County Council have specified five cuts to be spread across the growing season from April to October.

In Broxtowe, grass cutting recommenced on 14th April. Each cut is expected to take around three weeks to cover the whole borough. Summer Car Maintenance

Six million motorists around the UK are risking a repair bill of over ÂŁ1,000 by failing to regularly check that their engine coolant is at a recommended level according to the AA. This is absolutely vital if you are to prevent overheating in the summer.

It is recommended that you check that your coolant fluid level is between the maximum and minimum marks on the tank at least once a week when the engine is cold. If the coolant level has dropped, make sure that you get it checked out at your local garage because ordinarily coolant levels should remain at the same level between services.

Cooling fan The cooling fan is activated automatically when an engine begins to overheat, drawing air in through the radiator in order to cool the engine. However, if the fan seizes then the engine coolant will likely begin to boil which could cause significant damage to the engine.

The only way to check on the health of your cooling fan is to turn the heater to cold and run the car to normal temperatures (i.e. the middle of your temperature gauge). Once this has been reached, keep the engine running while parked up but do not use the car for five minutes. The fan should automatically kick in after this length of time.A problem will be in evidence if the fan fails to activate and your engine temperatures start to spiral upwards. If this is the case simply switch your engine off and seek assistance from your breakdown cover provider or local mechanic.

IN THE COMMUNITY ROLLS- ROYCE RETIRED EMPLOYEES ASSOCIATION The Rolls- Royce Retired Employees Association ‘s April excursion was to Hampton Court they enjoyed some free time wandering round the beautiful gardens exploring the famous maze and viewing the world’s largest vine, afterwards they split into three groups for a two hour guided tour that encompassed Henry V111’s and William11’s apartments along with the Clock Court and the Seymour Gate . For many members this was their first visit to one of London’s famous Historic Palaces.

The day was slightly spoilt by the traffic congestion on the M 25 and surrounding roads but the time was well spent with the members partaking in a picture quiz The Walk & Talk Group had a good turn out for their April Walk with 29 members attending, meeting at the Cemetery in Monsom Lane .The day started a little overcast but warmish as they left Repton and headed off towards the remains of the old chain ferry at Twyford. The walkers remarking how good it was to see the sheep with their lambs in the fields a perfect reminder that spring was here as they headed towards St.Savior’s Church next to Foremark Hall, then across the fields and into Milton before heading back to Repton and lunch at The Cherry Tree Restaurant.

The “This That and The Other” Group enjoyed a very interesting talk on Clown Make Up by Jean Ellison who made up as she gave the talk.

Future trips include Lake Garda and The National Memorial Arboretum Another trip to the Malvern Flower Show on the 8th April still has tickets available at £30-00 pp including entry(See below for contact details) The Association hold a monthly social get together on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at Rolls-Royce Leisure Moor Lane Derby at 1-00 pm . BEESTON IS TRANSFORMING! AS BEESTON looks ahead to a new tram system and town centre Square, it’s an exciting time in Broxtowe. Borough residents are being urged to have their say on how they would like to see the town improve for the future.

The questionnaire is available online at www.broxtowe.gov.uk/beestonsurvey and is quick and easy to fill in, using a series of drop down boxes to rate a number of ideas in order of priority, as well as providing an opportunity to give their own, practical and fundable suggestions.

Options include replacing street furniture, introducing free accessible Wi-Fi across the town centre, improving Christmas decorations, a TV screen in The Square and installing a new sculpture.

FROM RATTLERS TO RAINBOWS AT HERITAGE CENTRE SPECIALLY COMMISSIONED PAINTINGS will be displayed at Eastwood’s D.H. Lawrence Heritage Centre during an exhibition by local artist Ruth Gray, starting on Friday 30th May. Around 40 paintings will be shown at the exhibition, entitled ‘From Rattlers to Rainbows’ in the Rainbow Gallery at the Heritage Centre, after Ruth found a reference to the Ripley Rattler in Lawrence’s short story ‘Tickets Please’. Armed with a detailed description of the route she went out and took photographs along its length of landmarks to include in her paintings to celebrate the iconic route as it is today.

The Ripley Rattler was by reputation the most dangerous tramcar service in Britain. One hundred years ago it travelled up hill and down dale from Nottingham’s city centre to the Market Place in Ripley – a 15 mile journey run mostly by women and disabled people during the First World War, as the fit and able were fighting.

The exhibition opens on Friday 30th May until Sunday 13th July from 10.00am until 5.00pm, Tuesday to Sunday.

Admission is £2.90 per person, £2.60 for Broxtowe Leisure Card holders and free for D.H. Lawrence Annual Members.

Ruth, who grew up in Long Eaton, has been painting since she was a child thanks to gifts from an artistic aunt. She has recently completed a degree course in the international fashion business for which she received first class honours.

She is also involved with the Belper Arts Collaborative, is co-ordinator for Studio 61 Gallery at Holloway and is keen to help promote other artists.

D.H. Lawrence Heritage is a multi-award winning, two site visitor attraction in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire, not far from junction 26 of the M1. The attraction brings together a museum, heritage centre, gift shop, art gallery, meeting room facility and civil wedding venue.
