Sixth Form at a glance There hasn't been a dull moment since joining BMS at Sixth Form “as there are so many opportunities on offer. There are lots of activities

outside of school work to participate in whether that's Sports, CCF, Music or Performing Arts. I really feel that it's helped me develop my confidence and prepared me well for life at university. It's such a friendly school; I was quite nervous about starting but I felt at ease straight away. Fiona Jones - joined BMS in Year 12

Introduction Our Sixth Form is made up of those students who decide to stay at BMS together with those who join us from a host of other schools and colleges. All are equally welcome. What is clear is that, in most cases, all are keen to complete their schooling in a vibrant co educational environment. They see co-education as the natural step in preparation for the realities of their chosen future pathways. Some come because of our excellent reputation academically or to take advantage of the diverse co-curricular activities we offer. Our aim is to help students plan their future direction and meet the goals that they strive to reach. We encourage students to maximise their time in the Sixth Form by balancing the inevitable hard work with the array of developmental opportunities on offer. The CCF, academic and social societies together with our fully embedded Outreach Programme incorporating our local, national and international charity initiatives ensure that there is something to cater for all tastes. Our philosophy is clear: work is important and results do make a difference but ultimately personality and passion are just as significant. We prepare students not only for A Level success but also for life at University, work-related training or indeed a GAP year experience and for life in the years well beyond school.

Student support Fostering personal development is a crucial component of life in the Sixth Form at BMS. We recognise that students are at a crossroads developmentally with a more independent lifestyle just two very short years away. We approach personal development from the simple philosophy that life is about more than just qualifications, specifications and taking examinations. Real life is about making difficult, complicated decisions and we aim to equip students with a set of skills that will help them become well-rounded individuals. As well as offering a range of leadership opportunities inside and outside of BMS, becoming a senior monitor or Head of House is something to which many aspire and is a responsibility taken very seriously.

The excellent monitor system is valued equally by those “receiving support and by the monitors themselves as an effective way of providing additional care for the individual at key points in their school career and as an opportunity to take responsibility. Independent Schools Inspectorate

We run an Enrichment Programme in Year 12 that includes guest speakers on topical subject matter as well as core information of an age related nature. The Year 13 timetable allows students the flexibility to choose from a wide range of extra activities, with academic and recreational pursuits on offer and the programme offering everything from the EPQ qualification through to sailing and adventure!

I was appointed as the Oatley House Captain where I've had the chance to organise teams for charity events and lead a fundraising initiative at the same time as encouraging all the members of Oatley House to take part in the many activities available to them with the aim of winning the House competition.

There are numerous opportunities to get involved in Sport either at a competitive level by representing your House; of which there are six, or by representing the School. The newly refurbished fitness centre is also very popular.

Hockey is my main “sport and playing on the AstroTurf has played a big part in developing my skills and training. I use the Fitness Suite a lot and there is a really good choice of weights and cardio machines.

The atmosphere at BMS is great, everybody “wants to play a positive role at the school. The support system is fantastic and I've been able to develop my own interest in rugby successfully, which I started in Year 4, outside of the academic timetable. The teachers are really approachable and encouraging; they motivate us to do the best we can in both team and individual sports.
