T Levels - Animal Management and Animal Science

Entry Requirements

To begin a T-Level study programme you will need...

4 GCSEs at grades A*-C or 9-4 including English, Math’s and Science

Course - 2 year duration

What happens if I don’t get the required grades?

• If you do not get the grades needed for the TLevel’s in animal management/science there are other options we can explore.

• Level 2 Technical Diploma in Animal Care – 1 year full time + GCSE’s

• We can discuss individual options at GCSE results day here at college

Employer Set Project (April/May) = 17 hours total

Break down of ESP

- Task 1 – Planning – 5 hours

- Task 2 – Complete task – 8 hours

- Task 3 – Reflection and Evaluation – 4 hours

The Zoological Education Centre

• We are proud of our resource which is divided into specialist zones housing both domestic animals and specialist zoo species.

• Humidity zone and Biome housing exotic species from tropical climates, such as frogs, lizards and our alligators.

• Rodent room housing species such as rats, chinchillas, degu, mice and gerbils

• Hot-arid zone housing desert reptiles and snakes.

• Aquatics room housing fish and turtles

• Nocturnal zone allows learners to observe and care for twilight animals.

• Exotic mammals zone provides housing for primates and small African mammals including our Binturong and Lemurs.

• Outdoor paddock zones house a herd of alpaca and various goat breeds, Miniature donkeys and our wallabies, emu and Rhea.

• Purpose-built rabbit and guinea pig village enable learners to develop their skills with these commonly kept pets.

• Birds – Macaws, Parakeets and other exotic species to work with

Working on the ZEC

• No Jewellery – Can tape piercings that will not come out.

• No Gel/False nails

• No Nail Varnish – Harmful to certain species.

• Hair tied back

• You must have PPE to work on the ZEC – if you forget you will not be allowed on there for biosecurity reasons.

Work Experience

• All students will be required to complete work experience for their course, this is mandatory and forms part of your qualification

• We have a work placement co-ordinator who will assist in this area. eluke@bedford.ac.uk

• Wide range of placements that we work with within a 50 mile radius of the college

• Zoo’s, Vets, Kennels, Catteries, Rescue Centres, Pet shops, farms and groomers plus many more!

Personal Achievement tutors

• Each course has a PAT who will help and support you through the year.

• Weekly group tutorial sessions and termly one to one sessions.

• Can help with all college related concerns, for example, workload, assignments and organisation skills and also outside concerns that may be affecting your college life.

What happens next?

• An conditional offer will be made depending on the achievement of your GCSEs

• Emails will start to arrive detailing information such as your offer, welcome day and enrolment onto the course.

• GCSE results day-open day at college come in and discuss your grades and options with a tutor if needed

Timetables

• The courses will run over 3 – 4 days a week full time at college

• 1 or 2 Study days a week, this is to allow you to complete outstanding work– these are NOT days off.

• Timetables will be given out on your first day.

• The college day is 9am – 4.45pm.
