Level 3 Computing I feel that studying at Tresham College has helped me gain the knowledge I need for my future. You get more time to focus on your independent study and my computing course has given me a more realistic insight into what a work place would look like in the industry I am interested in. The tutors at the College are so helpful and will always point you in the right direction if you need further help. Studying here has helped me develop my skills and become more confident and comfortable. Following this course I am going on to study Computing for Games at Falmouth University.

We are dedicated to getting our students where they want to be in life. We provide a great education in environments that mirror the industry which provides you with the practical skills you need for the world of work or higher level study. We make sure our students are on track to demonstrate to employers that you’ve got what it takes to succeed.

Many of our students progress on to our Undergraduate courses. We offer a range of Undergraduate courses at our Bedford College, Shuttleworth College and Tresham College campuses. Find out more in our brand new prospectus or on our website www.bedfordcollegegroup.ac.uk/undergraduate

Katherine Animal Management Destination: Dog Sled Company in Sweden I loved being able to work with such a wide variety of animals, and it was great to be able to put any theory we had learnt into practice on the animal unit. 30

Millie Travel & Tourism Destination: Cabin Crew The programme at College helped me figure out what I wanted to do within the industry. The tutors at the College really helped me as they have industry knowledge. I think that the cabin crew unit allowed me to learn the basics of what is was like being a crew member. The tutor of this subject and the fact she had already been crew in the past really helped as she was able to give us real life examples about the job. I was able to build confidence whilst at the College as at times we were pushed outside of our comfort zone with tasks. The College overall really helped me manage my time keeping which is very important being cabin crew and it helped me build my confidence which is what they look for when employing people in industry. Our trip to BA training academy also gave me a real insight to what cabin crew training was like.

Sam Sport & Fitness Destination: Gym Assistant I chose to study at Bedford College because of the fantastic facilities available and the range of topics that were covered. Studying topics such as nutrition, fitness and coaching gave me an insight into the industry, allowing me to choose the path I wanted to go down. I now work at a Gym and would like to become a personal trainer in the future.

Oliver Outdoor Education Destination: Watersports Instructor in Valsinki, Greece My favourite part of the course was the practical sessions we got to take part in. From climbing to sailing and canoeing with friends. These sessions set me up for my career in the outdoor industry, gaining practical skills and advanced knowledge.

Francesca 3D Design Destination: Senior Jewellery Designer The option of studying for my Foundation qualification at Bedford College meant I was not only able to study locally, but also explore a range of subjects and pathways that I had not yet considered whilst being at school.

Shoaib Motor Vehicle Maintenance Destination: MOT Tester he College is equipped with tutors who really care T about their students and this is definitely something that comes across in the teaching, as they want to give you every opportunity to broaden your knowledge and become successful.

Love them or hate them, English and maths are essential for work, education, and day to day life. Whether it’s problem solving, communicating effectively, or just being confident with numbers, these skills are needed for wherever your life leads you. Many jobs and courses require their applicants to have GCSE English and maths at grades 9-4. Our English and maths courses are built around the foundational principal that no one is born able to pass Maths and English; it’s all learned. There may be obstacles to overcome; perhaps from bad experiences studying English and maths in the past, maybe you’re just tired of trying and anxious about failing, or maybe you just don’t see the point. Our team has vast experience in both delivering the key content of these subjects and motivating our students to show them what they can achieve if they work hard and commit to giving it their best.

What our apprentices say Josh Engineering Apprentice | Elma Electronics UK Ltd I’ve always liked learning in a hands-on way rather than in a classroom environment. I design the metal work for the enclosures to customer’s individual specifications. I get given a project to work on and can develop my own ideas but also collaborate with the wider team. I’ve enjoyed every second of my apprenticeship and I’m hoping to stay at Elma for many more years to come. I like how you’re in a more mature environment; you can focus on what you want to do and get the job done. At College, the tutors are very knowledgeable about the industry. I can also speak to other students and hear about their experiences from the companies and industries they are working in.

Jodie Business Administration Apprentice Biddenham International School I always knew I wanted to get back into studying and even considered going to university. Having completed an apprenticeship back when I was 16, I decided to look at apprenticeships again. I wanted to work in a school because I believe education is important and I enjoy learning about the support teams behind the school that people don’t see. My job role is quite full on so I really enjoy the one day at College as I get to hear about the experiences of my fellow peers and the work is very relevant to what I do. I would like to stay on at Biddenham after my apprenticeship if a full-time role comes up. Alongside this, I’d like to continue my studies and progress up the levels.

What are T Levels T Levels are a brand new, two-year qualification that will give you a head start towards the future you want. T Levels are ideal if you have finished your GCSEs and want the knowledge and experience to get straight into employment, an Apprenticeship or Higher Education. You will spend 80% of your time in the classroom and 20% on a high quality placement with an employer to give you the knowledge and skills companies look for.

CREATED WITH BUSINESSES T Levels have been designed with leading businesses and employers to give you the knowledge and skills you need.

QUALIFICATIONS THAT COUNT When you pass your T Level, you will get a nationally recognised certificate showing the overall grade you achieved - Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction*. It will also give details of what you learned on the course.

LEARN YOUR WAY T Levels involve more classroom study than apprenticeships, which means you can experience an industry while you continue your studies. Like BTECs and A-Levels, there are no tuition fees to study a T Level if you start before you are 19.

GET AHEAD IN YOUR CAREER T Levels give you the chance to learn what a real career is like while you continue your studies. Your industry placement will last for at least 45 days over the duration of your course.

AWARDED UCAS POINTS Your T Level will be worth a number of UCAS points – a T Level Distinction* is worth the same as three A-Levels at A* – and will be recognised by universities and other education providers.

Visit our website to find out more about the T Levels we are offering and how to apply.

Staci

Access to Higher Education (Health & Applied Science) I like that the course gives you a real insight into what university will be like, in terms of the standard of work and workload. This is particularly important for people like me who have been out of education for a long time. In lessons we learn about the NHS and the Nursing & Midwifery Council, as well as everything to do with the human body, which I find really interesting. After College I am going to the University of Northampton to study an undergraduate Midwifery course for three years.

If you are aged 18 or over without the standard qualifications to enter higher education, these one-year, intensive courses are ideal for you.

Financial Help

Our Access courses build the skills, knowledge and confidence you need to progress on to higher education in the subject area you’re interested in. They are recognised by universities across the UK and allow entry on to higher education courses in your chosen specialist area.

If you complete one of our Access to Higher Education courses and use an Advanced Learner Loan to pay for your tuition fees, the Student Loans Company will write off the balance on the Advanced Learner Loan if you then go on to complete an undergraduate course. *Terms & Conditions apply; visit our website to find out more.

You will gain a good introduction to your chosen subject, develop your study skills and increase your confidence and ability with this level of study. The course takes one year and, on completion, you will gain an Access to Higher Education Diploma. All pathways will include compulsory English and maths, as well as research skills units. You will also need to have good IT skills as all of your assignments will be carried out using either Word, Excel or PowerPoint. motor vehicle Introduction Our We offer a unique opportunity to gain qualifications and experience in vehicle body repair, vehicle paint and vehicle maintenance.

All of our tutors have worked in the automotive industry in a variety of roles, often being leaders in their chosen specialisms. Using their experiences and engineering backgrounds, they build a multitude of portable practical resources to better engage students in the classroom. Our students also benefit from professional links with the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) as well as major employers in the area to keep abreast of changes. Some of these have donated who have a number of ex-trial vehicles to us, to help students test their diagnostic skills on the very latest technology. A number of our students move on to apprenticeships after their course; some with Vauxhall, where they have had great experiences, from being a member of a pit crew on the annual VXR Power Event, to servicing and preparing an ambulance for a 10,000 mile charity drive to Mongolia. We take pride in offering our students an experience that best prepares them for all their aspirations in the automotive world. 204

I instantly preferred the College environment to school because it is much more mature and the tutors are so friendly, approachable and helpful. In class, I really enjoy the group work because you can share ideas and take part in discussion and role play. phone 0345 658 8990

uniformed public services Introduction Studying Uniformed Public Services will help you to develop the skills, fitness and determination to put yourself ahead of the rest, with career paths that include the Armed Forces, Emergency Services, the Prison Service and many more.

Tutors have experience in public service roles in the armed forces and emergency services, which give an extra dimension to lessons and will enable you to draw on their vocational experience. As a student, you will have opportunities to visit and train with the RAF, Army and Fire Service. Recent visits have included expeditions to the Lake District and The Peak District and work experience with the British Army, participating in fieldcraft and military exercises. We have close links with Bedfordshire Police where we have worked on a number of initiatives with them, as well as organising volunteering projects for the British Legion. Students also have the opportunity to take part in outdoor activities on land and water, including orienteering, map reading, canoeing and kayaking. 264
