What will I study?
•3 GCSEs grades 9–1 or A*–G ideally including English and maths and a keen interest in painting and decorating
What will I study? This study programme will provide you with the key knowledge and skills required for entering the painting and decorating industry, as well as giving you the confidence to tackle a number of small decorating projects. You will focus on various wall and ceiling coverings, including anaglypta, blown vinyl and vinyl papers. You will also learn about wood graining and marbling, and a variety of broken colour techniques.
What qualifications will I gain? • Health, Safety and Environment (CSCS) Card • English and maths qualifications if required
Are there any additional costs? •P ersonal Protective Equipment (PPE), approximately £30 • Textbooks, approximately £20 •Y ou will also be required to pay approximately £40 to take a CSCS test. This will allow you to complete the mandatory 30 hours’ work experience required as part of this study programme
What could I do next? You can progress on to the Painting & Decorating Level 3 study programme or into a related apprenticeship (see page 20).

This study programme will give you the confidence to manage small projects and provide you with the skills needed to decorate complex surfaces, whether with paint, paper or metal leaf. The programme involves more research than tuition, so you will be expected to solve problems and manage your own learning to meet the course requirements, and will cover installing lincrusta on to walls, intricate picking out and replica faux painting of marbles and woods.

What could I do next? You can gain employment as a Painting & Decorating apprentice, where you can convert your qualification to an NVQ Level 3 through further study at the College (see page 20), or study our Construction Advanced Level 3 study programme to pursue a career in construction management. You could also apply for our Construction BTEC HNC/HND (entry is subject to a successful interview).
