letter Editors Dear Patriots,

We’re back with our senior edition — except, this year, it’s quite different. Since we’re living in a worldwide pandemic, this year’s senior edition was cut a little short. But no worries, we still kept our classic college map, teacher superlatives, and alumni advice! We know that many milestones have been canceled for our class of 2020, so we made sure of it to have a senior edition magazine for our seniors. Additionally, we have created our own Beckman Chronicle Patriot Pal characters to accompany you as you flip through our virtual magazine (we’ll introduce them to you on the bottom). We want this to be something fun that you can enjoy during quarantine, and hopefully, you will find our magazine a memorable part of your senior year!

Our theme for this edition is Patriot Pals Senior Summer Road Trip (#ppssrt). Unfortunately, the road trip part is probably not viable now, but the theme of road trip commemorates our journey throughout high school and onto our next destinations, wherever they may be. As we continue our trip, there will be many bumps along the road, but we will eventually make it to the end! We hope you enjoy this special senior edition and celebrate the Class of 2020 with us!

“In high school, I did most of my studying at home, but in college, I found it hard to focus in my room, so I have a list of study spots. I usually switch between them pretty often, and I found that switching spots helps me stay focused. I also found it helpful to find a group of friends to study with. We often have study sessions and push each other to stay focused.”

“One of the differences between college and high school is the independence you have. No one is telling you what to do, so it’s important to be in the right mindset to make the most of your college experience. It’s up to you to decide which activities you get involved in, whether or not you go to class, and how you manage your time.”

ten Tips for college

We also decided to create ten quick tips to help you in college. We hope you will find use in these tips in the future!

REMEMBER TO KEEP IN TOUCH WITH YOUR CLOSEST HIGH SCHOOL FRIENDS. Most people lose touch with their high school friends after leaving for college. Do not exclude these friendships because they can last a lifetime.

Do not boast about your achievements from high school.

Be proud of your accomplishments from high school, but no one wants to constantly hear about them. Remember to be humble and have a certain degree of respect towards others.

Take advantage of your school’s resources.

CHOOSE CLASSES THAT ARE IMPORTANT TO YOU.

College is usually quite expensive, so make sure to utilize every opportunity that you can take. Whether they offer tutoring, internships, or counseling, take advantage of it.

Do not choose classes for the sole reason of being with other friends. Take meaningful classes that interest you and will help you in the future.

“SENIORITIS” DOES NOT END IN HIGH SCHOOL. If you have experienced “senioritis” in high school, it will most likely follow you to college. Ask yourself what you want to achieve at college and why you are there to find motivation.

YOU ARE NOT FORCED TO GO OUT EVERY DAY. You do not have to go out just because your friends are doing so. Get a good feel of your own limits and make sure to set your priorities straight.

UNDERSTAND THAT SLEEP IS IMPORTANT AND BALANCE IT WITH STUDIES. In college, you have more freedom. Some students decide to sleep in, rather than going to class. While sleep is important, set your priorities straight and manage your time well.

DO NOT COMPARE YOURSELF TO THE PATH YOUR FRIENDS ARE ON. Do not compare your path to the path your new (and old) friends are on because everyone is on their own individual journey.

if you are not doing well, it is okay to accept that.

Adjusting to college is generally very difficult and you will often find it difficult.

Remember that having difficulty is perfectly normal. Whatever methods are available to you, seek help.

Weird and Quirky, But Legal, Stories MR. BOWMAN AND A QUIRKY SENIOR PRANK

ELIZABETH KIM AND THE UNEXPECTED SNACK

“I was in high school from 1968-1972. One of the fads was streaking, running naked through public places. Some members of my senior class decided it would be fun to streak the school hallways during lunchtime. They parked their car out front of the school, put on ski masks, disrobed and proceeded to streak the main hallway much to the delight and cheering of their classmates. They were chased by staff back to their cars where they had locked their keys in the car on top of their clothes. They were suspended for three days.”

“My quirkiest story happened to me this year, when my friend, Raina, told me Mr. Beilin was holding a food party in his classroom during lunch for the seniors that come. I, at first, thought it would be just chips and soda gathering, but when I arrived, I saw a massive bowl of sukiyaki prepared, with broth, vegetables, meat and everything! On top of that, Mr. Beilin cooked some rice for us to have with the sukiyaki. The meal was great, and it was just so unexpected for me. I think I will continue to remember this moment in college and when I come back to visit later on.”
