International Student Admission Application
Thank you for your interest in Joliet Junior College, the first public community college in the United States. At Joliet Junior College, you can receive an excellent education while enjoying all the benefits of living near a first-rate city at an affordable cost. Our expansive main campus is located just 72 kilometers outside down Chicago, giving our student the opportunity to experience the exceptional cultural activity of the city. Plus, Joliet Junior College has agreements with other colleges and universities which makes it easy to transfer.
Eligibility To be eligible for admission to Joliet Junior College, you must be at least 17 years old prior to the program start date and provide proof of completion of an American high school degree. Students must also meet the admission criteria listed in the Application Checklist.

As part of the orientation, students will complete COMPASS testing to determine academic course placement. Topics covered in the orientation include the U.S. education system, cultural adjustments, obtaining a driver’s license, setting up a bank account, and much more about living in the United States.
Registration Students will register for classes during the International New Student Orientation, after they complete the COMPASS testing. Students will meet individually with a counselor to determine appropriate courses for their educational goals.
Estimated Expenses International students are charged the Out-of-State tuition rate at $296.40* per credit hour. This rate allows students to begin their undergraduate coursework at an affordable rate. For admission to JJC, students must demonstrate proof of funding to cover the estimated expenses below for the 2014-2015 academic school year. Housing Located at the heart of JJC, Centennial Commons combines premier housing and a student-centered community, giving you everything you need and deserve to succeed as a student at JJC. You will find fully furnished units, private bedrooms and other great amenities, in an environment that promotes personal growth and community responsibility with respect for individual differences. International students are offered a special rate of $620 per month which includes linens, pots and pans, utensils, plates, cups and glasses. Centennial Commons is managed by United Campus Housing. Students may also choose to secure housing on their own but they must reside within the Joliet Junior College district.
Arrival Students should arrange to arrive in the Joliet Junior College district no later than one week prior to the state date listed on the Form I-20. Students may not arrive in the United States earlier than 29 days prior to the start date listed on the Form I-20. Joliet Junior College is located approximately 75 km from O’Hare International Airport and Midway Airport. To arrange airport pick-up, please contact intlstudent@jjc.edu with your arrival information.
Transportation PACE, the suburban bus service, serves the JJC Main Campus Monday through Saturday. Direct service to JJC is available via Pace Bus 501. Along the Pace Bus 501 route is Joliet Union Station which connects students with the Metra Rail System or the Amtrak Rail System. This provides students with the opportunity to travel around Illinois and the United States. Some students choose to obtain an Illinois driver’s license and purchase their own vehicle. Information regarding driver’s license and personal vehicles will be presented at the International New Student Orientation. Transportation costs are not included in the Estimated Expenses.
Medical Insurance Proof of health insurance coverage covering you in the United States is required for all international students. Proof of having purchased the appropriate health insurance must be turned in to the Admissions Office before the Program Start Date on your Form I-20. All prospective F-1 students must submit financial documentation certifying access to funding for the duration of their studies pursuant to 8 CFR § 214.2

If the student is self-funded: Please supply an official, original bank letter or statement on bank letterhead certifying the account holder’s name, date account was opened, type of account, current balance in U.S. dollars, and date of statement verifying proof of funds. The bank account being used for evidence of financial support must be in the student’s name and must be notarized. A sample letter is below for your reference
