letter from the EDITOR

ello,

BEAUTIFUL, Happy August! Once again, this year feels like it is flying by. Many students will be heading back to school this month. It is still summer, so it will be extremely hot in most areas north of the equator. Despite all the constant changes and continuations in the cycle of the year, we like to bring a splash of color to you each month. The color is meant to give you a break away from the gray and the mundane. This month, our splash of color is purple. Purple is a royal color. It represents royalty, luxury, nobility, and power. It also signifies ambition, creativity, and mystery. Throughout the month of August, I want you to think about the color purple. As you muse through the different meanings of the color, I want your brain to wander into the land of something greater. You are here, on this earth, for more than just a 9 to 5 job or to please your boss. Let your heart take you towards your ambitions, towards a life of nobility. You are worth more than what you are living out, so don’t be afraid to find out what that more could be. XOXO,

Arman Irani is just another fellow human. He’s admittedly a little bit nerdy. How nerdy? Well, he just received a Bachelors degree in Nanotechnology. Arman loves working out, cooking healthy, dressing up, traveling and he’s also a bit of a gamer. He has no qualms with moving in faith to new destinations and embarking on new adventures in life (as the phrase goes, you only live once!). When it comes down to it, Arman believes life is short and hopes that you become inspired and believe in yourself to do the things that you want in this life and follow your calling.

ASSISTANT EDITOR

Jackie Cullum, 26, is a wife, mom, and Chairperson for the Missions Committee at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. She has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Saint Leo University and obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from Southeastern University. Her passion is for children and she wants to work with orphans by planting orphanages to help get children off the streets and providing them with an education so that they can have a brighter future.

feature STORY

Excitement is the vibrant noun to express my emotion while penning, yet, another sentimental “love note” to you, my loves. And because of this pure and uncontrollable joy, I won’t hold you long—just long enough to say what needs to be said about the authoritative power for the month of August. Unbeknownst to you, my loves, and to my forward thinking Founder and Editor In Chief, Karissa Hagemeister, is the bold and powerful decree that she set in place for August. How so? Purple, the shade that sophisticatedly symbolizes “courage, wealth, nobility, grandeur, creativity, dignity, independence, devotion, artistic, wisdom and magic,” is donned as the appropriate hue for the eighth month that means New Beginnings from the biblical meaning for the number 8. Now if you don’t have goosebumps like I do after this powerful revelation, eventually, it will saturate your memory. How appropriate is it that this color—which was declared by Pantone’s as THE color for 2018, last year in December—is the accurate tone that “prophetically speaks and blesses” you in a whole i.e. your being, character, endeavors, decisions and power moves-as you stride into your New Beginning! Ah…the regality of purple and the number eight! So, as you walk into August, confidently know you ARE striding into your New Beginning. Whatever you deemed lost, forgotten, missed, misplaced and/or needing to be restored-be it finances or opportunities…whatever...know in August you aren’t stumbling into this month haphazardly, cheaply or sloppy but you’re stepping into it in grandeur. Please don’t give up! Keep pushing! Hang on in there! You’re closer to “it” whatever you define “it” to be than you think! Know August IS your Second Chance— your New Beginning in courage (needed that push to take that leap of faith to start that business that’s been eating away at you for years), wisdom (securing more sound knowledge and understanding for better guidance in your decision making) creativity, wealth and prestige. So my loves, thank Karissa Hagemeister for setting August and your remaining journey in 2018 and artistry, extravagance, magic and influence in regality. Happy New Beginnings to you and let purple be your force and guide! 12

health TOPIC

TAKING BACK YOUR

by Karissa Hagemeister

It’s time we women take back our power. I’m not referring to women’s rights or anything else in that realm. I am referring to our own personal power that we alone have control over. You may ask, “What is she talking about?” I am talking about your health.

16

If you have your health, you are a very powerful person. You radiate with confidence and can be very persuasive when given the chance. If you do not have your health, you are weak. This may sound harsh, but it is true. You have a lesser chance of getting pushed around when you are healthy than when you are not. I am speaking from my own experience here. Over the past five years, I have dealt with some major health issues that are a result of me not taking care of my health through my teens and early twenties. Each blow I get to my health weakens me and makes me less powerful in the eyes of those around me. I went through a long phase of life where I would eat only chocolate, cupcakes, and nachos. It did not help that I worked in a chocolate factory or that I had a fast metabolism, so it looked like all the junk I was consuming was having no effect on me. My whole world changed, however, when I reached my mid-twenties. Out of nowhere, I felt tired and lifeless. I felt like I was dying. After a few months of this, I finally discovered that my body had developed a gluten allergy from consuming garbage for so many years. This meant that any nutritious food I was eating was not making it into my body because the gluten would block it from doing its job.

Fast forward a few years and I discover that I have anemia, which is more or less tied to the eating habits I had years before. I did not take this news seriously for over a year, until last month when my body felt like it was shutting down again. It was hard to get enough oxygen, to do anything active, or even eat. It was a huge wake up call to me that I need to take the anemia seriously and do what I could to get over this. Do you see what I mean now? When you are not on top of your health, you lose your power. I write this with nothing more than encouragement for you. Eat and drink the things that your body needs and avoid the other garbage as much as possible. A little here and there will not affect you, but mass consumption of sugars, gluten, alcohol, and the like will destroy your body from the inside out and steal your power. If you are already dealing with a health issue, such as anemia, you can heal it naturally by changing your food intake and exercise. Your body has the power to heal itself, so take back your power and take care of your body.

Movie of the Month

ANT MAN & THE WASP

M

arvel has really outdone themselves this year, one after another of awesome blockbuster hits. Once again, one of the Marvel movies takes home the title of “Movie of the Month” by Beautiful & Dauntless Magazine. Honestly, we give a fair chance to the other movies that hit the theaters (excluding horror films). Personally, I did not watch the first Ant Man, so I was not really tied to the characters and did not have any background knowledge of them. The plot, however, was very intriguing and kept me tied in for the entirety of the movie. I think one of the things that Marvel does really well is it allows the viewers to dream. We feel like we are taking on the

superpowers of all these heros. For a few hours, we get to dream that we are something more than human and can shrink to the size of an ant or fly like a wasp and really kick the bad guys’ butts! Lol! This is why we enjoy watching these movies. They make us feel like there has to be something more. We recommend the latest in the Marvel movies … but be sure to watch Avengers: Infinity War first, or the last shot after the credits will not make any sense. To see more of the movie reviews that we do, watch us on YouTube.

letter from the EDITOR

UP, ‘S

DAUNTLESS DUDES,

This months color is purple which can be attributed to luxury, power, ambition, mystery, and creativity. Throughout history, the color purple has represented nobility and power. In the medieval times, only the elite class were allowed to wear purple since it was a rarity and an expensive dye to obtain. Don’t believe me? Play Assassin’s Creed II and try purchasing the purple robe (lol). Although most of us are not born into nobility or luxurious lives, that does not mean that we cannot strive to create one for ourselves. Now, I know that the world has all given us great examples of what this means and how to strive to make this lifestyle a reality. Work hard, save, invest, get a shiny, fancy, sports car (get the ladies), get nice, name brand, designer clothes, etc. Trying a few of these techniques and not finding happiness but rather finding debt, stress, worry, and anxiety left me wondering: What is it that I really value as being luxurious and noble in my life? So, I did some soul searching and reassessed my value system of what I find luxurious. What is it that I can do each and every day, since I am not promised tomorrow, 52

to make myself feel luxurious? For me personally, it is taking care of myself. My health is more important than wealth. See, if you make a lot of money but get sick, you still have to pay lots of money to get back to where you started from, which seems kind of dumb to me. So, I’d rather leave my health in God’s hands and work on my physical well being, the foods I eat and the supplements I take to better take care of my health. I’ve learned that living with fewer material items leads to being able to enjoy the moments in life, rather than being absorbed by the materialistic things. I guess it all comes down to you and what you find brings you happiness. I’d suggest starting by figuring out what you value in your life, making a priority list of things you want to accomplish, and working on it step-by-step. For me personally, my priority is my health, so I make sure I get in some form of exercise daily, eat well, and avoid things I know are not beneficial to my health. Find yours. Thanks and God bless!

DAUN LESS Arman Irani Editor In Chief

Jackie Cullum Assistant Editor

Sara Robillard Art Director

ABOUT DAUNTLESS The second half of this magazine is now being taken over by guys, for guys. Since the creation of this magazine, January 2017, we have excelled at offering real life stories, advice and insight into daily matters. Our writers share what is on their heart in order to bring some life to your current situation. Up to this point, much of the material has been more “lady focused” but we hate to leave out our male counterparts, as they need special rays of light to impact their life as well. In May 2017, after receiving much feedback from males asking for more content geared towards them, our wheels started turning. We came up with the idea of having the dual magazine, but we need a name. After conducting a poll on social media, we were given some insight as to what a guy might prefer to be thought of as, and DAUNTLESS was the winner. Below are a few of the reasons as to why Dauntless is now the name of the second half of our e-mag. So, gentlemen, as you are reading, think of yourself in these terms: “Dauntless means, ‘I am BOLD, COURAGEOUS, and GALLANT. Which trumps all other choices. IMHO.” Larry “Dauntless for sure. Dauntless means, ‘Showing FEARLESSNESS and DETERMINATION.’ That is how I would like to be defined.” Arman
