COVID-19

PLEASE NOTE: If withdrawing more than 7 days before the course start date, the refund will be issued less the current admin fee ($10)

The health, safety and well-being of our residents, staff and visitors is our city’s priority. We have implemented a number of health and safety measures in order to respond to COVID-19 based on Government of Alberta standards.

We continue to ask the community and our employees to practise healthy hygiene habits and physical distancing (maintaining an appropriate distance from others) to prevent the spread of germs, including:

• Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds

• Stay home if you are sick

• Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands

• Do not share water bottles or similar containers

• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash

• Routinely clean frequently touched surfaces and objects

Physical distancing is a term that refers to a conscious effort to reduce close contact between people and hopefully reduce community transmission of the virus. Practise physical distancing in all public situations as this plays an important role in minimizing the spread of the virus. This means staying at least two metres (six feet) away from other people.

New information about COVID-19 is being shared on a regular basis on the Government of Alberta website.

The City of Beaumont may cancel programs at any point within the season in order to appropriately respond to the Government of Alberta and AHS’s health regulations. For programs cancelled, a 100% pro-rated refund will be issued. If you wish to withdraw from a program at any point, our program withdrawal policy will apply.

The Red Cross Swim Adapted Aquatics program is for swimmers with special needs. While this program uses the progressions in the Red Cross Swim Preschool and Red Cross Swim Kids Programs, the performance criteria for each level have been broken down into smaller, more manageable progressions to create a positive learning environment and make the success of each swimmer more achievable. The progressions have been created to progress swimmers with special needs slowly and at their own rate.

In order to help meet the needs of our adapted aquatics candidates we have changed our inquiry and registration process.

Please contact the BSRC Aquatics Team to learn more about the program and the registration process.

YIN YANG YOGA

A blend of two styles of yoga to promote strength and balance in the body. Yin Yoga is a passive practice with little active engagement of muscles. Yang Yoga is an active practice that warms the body, thus creating endurance while strengthening and stretching muscles. Postures are held between 3-5 minutes. This allows the body to work deep into the connective tissues and ligaments, creating a calming effect in the nervous system!

YOGA FOR EVERYONE

Join us for taste of yoga where you will get to enjoy a variety of different classes! This class aims to provide a variety of sequences and intensities to keep us healthy and revitalized. The all levels class will explore some power flows, as well as help us work on our flexibility, mobility and core strength overall to prevent any injuries!.

All of our classes are designed to offering different intensity levels to suit the fitness needs of our entire community! While classes are rated more or less intense, do note that our certified instructors skillfully offer modifications to our fitness classes to adapt to varying fitness levels and physical limitations.

RPE – Rate of Perceived Exertion is based on a scale of 1-10. Rate of perceived exertion is a measure of effort level. A rating of 1 is rest or extremely light exercise, 2-5 ratings reflect easy-moderate exercise, 6-7 is moderate to hard, and a rating of 8-10 is vigorous exercise.

LOW INTENSITY: RPE: 2-5- classes rated as low intensity typically use low impact movements. You are still comfortable performing exercises while challenging yourself, and you can carry a conversation during class.

MODERATE INTENSITY: RPE 6-8

– classes rated as moderate intensity use variations of both high and low impact exercises, also can be dependent on the participant’s preferred modifications. Comfort zones are pushed while you are starting to get short of breath and only maintain brief conversation

HIGH INTENSITY: RPE 8-10 – classes rated as high intensity use variations of both high and low impact exercises reaching very difficult to maintain effort levels. This effort level will make you unable to maintain conversation, and leave you out of breath while pushing your limits!

Leduc County Family Resource Network

Providing free supports and services for residents of Beaumont, Devon, Leduc County, Calmar, Thorsby and Warburg

Leduc County Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) is now a provincial Family Resource Network (FRN) hub.

Provincial FRNs deliver high quality prevention and early intervention services and supports for children aged 0 to 18.

Networks provide a range of services and supports that focus on strengthening parenting and caregiving knowledge, social support, coping and problem-solving skills, access to community supports and resources, improving child and youth development, building resiliency and fostering well-being.

FRN supports

Leduc County FRN offers the following supports, in addition to referrals for cultural supports through the Creating Hope Society of Alberta.

X Home visitation: long-term support, mentorship, and advocacy for pregnant women and/or parents with a baby less than oneyear old; for “at risk” families.

X Parent education: information, referrals and parenting workshops such as Positive Discipline for Everyday Parenting, Circle of Security, Nobody’s Perfect and Kids Have Stress Too. Participation is open to all community members.

X Family support: in-home support for “at risk” families who have children aged one to 18. We provide information about parenting and child development, and connections to other supports in the community.

X Developmental screens: Leduc County FRN will provide the Ages and Stages questionnaire that is designed to help you monitor your child’s physical, intellectual and emotional development at regular intervals for children two-to-60 months old.

Family Violence prevention, education & awareness

Good Neighbour Program

Youth Services

You can help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Alberta. Prevention starts with awareness.

 Practice physical distancing

 Self-isolate if you’re feeling sick

 Wash your hands frequently

 Cover coughs and sneezes

 Avoid touching your face

 Do not travel outside of Canada

PRACTICE PHYSICAL DISTANCING

All Albertans have a responsibility to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Take steps to protect yourself and others:

 Limit the number of times you leave your home

 Stay at least 2 meters away from others when you go out for groceries, medical trips, and other essential needs

 Have groceries or other items delivered if possible

 If you go outside for fresh air maintain 2 meters distance from others

 Avoid overcrowding in elevators and other enclosed spaces

 Wash your hands after touching communal surfaces such as handrails, handles

 Postpone family visits, friend gatherings, and group outings, especially if household or family members are senior citizens or have high-risk medical conditions

 Do not gather with other people if you have a fever or a cough, even if symptoms appear to be mild.

 Obey all mandatory self-isolation requirements and mass gathering restrictions n ow in place in Alberta.

Legally enforceable public health measures are in place to limit the time Albertans spend in contact with each other. Anyone violating these restrictions is now subject to fines.

MONITOR YOUR SYMPTOMS

COVID-19 symptoms are similar to influenza and other respiratory illnesses. Symptoms can include:

 cough

 fever

 shortness of breath

 runny nose

 sore throat

If you have any of these symptoms stay home and self-isolate; do not go to an ER or medical clinic Call Health Link at 8-1-1 for more information. Services are available in 240 languages.

SELF ISOLATE

You are legally required to self-isolate for:

 14 days if you returned from international travel or are a close contact of a person with COVID-19

 10 days if you have a cough, fever, shortness of breath, runny nose, or sore throat that is not related to a pre-existing illness or health condition

If you are self-isolating:

 Stay home do not go to work, social events or any other public areas or community settings

 Avoid close contact with other people, including household members but especially seniors and people with chronic conditions or compromised immune systems

 Do not use public transportation or ride sharing

 Do not go for walks in public places. This includes children in mandatory self-isolation.

 If you go outside, you must remain on private property not accessible by others.

 If you live in an apartment building or high-rise, you must stay inside and cannot use the elevators or stairwells. If your balcony is private and at least 2 metres away from other balconies, you may use your balcony to get fresh air.

HELP RELAUNCH, SAFELY

Isolate if you’re feeling sick

When out, maintain physical distancing of 2 metres

Wash your hands frequently for at least 20 seconds with warm water and soap

Cover coughs and sneezes and stay home if you are sick

Avoid touching your face

Wear a mask in public places where keeping a distance of 2 metres is difficult
