fun ways to fundraise for

Who we are

Beatson Cancer Charity supports people affected by cancer, every step of the way. We make the journey easier by transforming the way cancer care is funded and delivered. We provide services, as well as funding specialists, research, and education to invest in a better future for cancer patients and their families.

From the hospital wards, right to the heart of the communities that The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre serves, we believe everyone should experience cancer with care, with love and with hope. We are with our patients and their families for every step of the journey.

where your money goes

We support The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre’s commitment to advancing clinical excellence in all areas.

With the money you help bring into our charity, it allows us to enhance cancer patients’ sense of wellbeing and their capacity to self-manage their condition.

It also helps us provide practical support that can help to transform how patients and their families cope through treatment.

Finally, we are committed to funding world class scientific research that has the potential to save lives in Scotland and beyond.

With the money that you raise, you become part of the movement that supports Beatson Cancer Charity and the work that we do for those affected by cancer.

getting started

If you simply need a sponsor form or would like some support with online donation pages e.g. JustGiving, our team can guide you through all of this.

Don’t forget that personal donations can also be Gift aided, enabling us to claim a further 25p per £1 donated at no extra cost to the person donating.

To claim Gift Aid on your donation, the charity will ask you to complete a Gift Aid Declaration Form. This requires:

• Your name and address

• You to declare that you pay tax in the UK of an amount at least equal to the donation you are making (those who pay no tax shouldn’t use the Gift Aid scheme)

• Your signature (or a box ticked if it’s online) and the date

Need more advice? You can find further fundraising advice on handling money or organising raffles and street collections at ciof.org.uk/guidance-and-resources Please note.there are strict laws relating to lotteries and raffles.

gift aid

What is Gift Aid? Gift Aid is one of the most important government initiatives for charities since it offers the potential for charities to increase their fundraising by up to 25%.

Gift Aid is a government scheme that lets charities claim tax relief on the donations that you make to them. Anyone that is a UK taxpayer can agree to gift aid at no extra cost to themselves!

+ We get an extra 25p for every pound donated at no extra cost to the donor!

give as you shop!

Did you know that you are now able to give back to charity when you shop online for necessities? You can do this via shopping donation platforms such as Easy Fundraising and Give as You Live. Both work in similar ways! You access them before you start shopping, choose Beatson Cancer Charity as your beneficiary, then they will track your purchase and donate a percentage of that shop to the charity. These platforms cost you nothing to go through and you do not pay for the donation, a great tool to also promote to friends and family!

community fundraising

Every community is affected by cancer in one way or another, which is why we have our own dedicated team members for all things community fundraising. Our community fundraisers love to visit local schools, groups and more, to deliver talks on how our charity supports those living with cancer, and ways that you can get involved in the work that we do. We can even organise a visit from our very own mascot – Bella Beatson!

From a simple coffee morning, to skydives and race nights, every penny you raise helps us to support a friend, neighbour or relative to make their cancer journey easier. If your school, college, or local sports group would like to find out more about partnering with us, please get in touch.

corporate fundraising

There are many great and easy ways for corporates to get involved with our charity.

Corporate fundraising is a term for gaining funding through commercial partnerships for a good cause. It can also be part of a corporate social responsibility programme (CSR) that supports projects suggested by staff or partners. There are many ways that your business, or a business that you work for, can support Beatson Cancer Charity. Whether this is by choosing us as your charity of the year, sponsoring our social events or by offering matched funding and payroll giving. All our company partnerships receive an allocated BCC fundraiser to help them with their fundraising journey.

You can also be the latest company to join our 1000 club, which is open to both corporate and community groups. By taking part in the 1000 club, you will be agreeing to come together as a team to help raise £1,000 (or more!) for Beatson Cancer Charity. £1,000 is an amount that could help fund a variety of services including Wellbeing, Innovation, Funded Posts and Research.

If you would like to find out more about how your company can support us through either your own fundraisers, or by sponsoring our official events, please email: fundraising@beatsoncancercharity.org

(faqs) frequently asked questions ?

1. Q My place of work provides match funding, how do we go about this? W hat are your bank details for making a bacs payment?

Answer: Our fundraising team will provide you with our bank details together w ith a unique reference identifying you as the recipient of the donation. Each company’s match-funding policy is different; however, we work with the company contact to ensure the correct paperwork is made available and signed off.

2. Q I am looking for a donation bucket to be collected. Is this possible?

Answer: We are happy to give buckets to anyone who needs one to aid their f undraising. We will issue a letter of authority which confirms the person accepts r esponsibility for keeping the bucket(s) safe and making sure they are returned t o us.

3. Q I’m taking part in a running challenge and would like to wear a BCC top. W here can I buy one?

Answer: Our Beatson Cancer Charity t-shirts and running tops are FREE to everyone that is fundraising for us, no matter the challenge or event! Please email fundraising@beatsoncancercharity.org to request a t-shirt in your size.

4. Q How do I receive my fundraising items?

Answer: We can post most items such as our t-shirts, but donation buckets need to b e collected and returned to our Glasgow office. You can also download fundraising materials such as posters via our website.

Do you still have some questions?

Don’t hesitate to contact our friendly team at BCC!

5. Q How do I approach businesses for raffle prizes?

Answer:

1. Prove you are genuine. Once you’ve confirmed a date and venue for your event, our fundraising team can provide you with a letter of authority to support your request for support and prizes.

2. Make your request personal. If you have time, find out the name of the person you are contacting (maybe it’s on their website, if not just phone up the business and find out who to send the letter to). Addressing someone by their name means that you recognise them personally and can help get your request noticed!

3. Make your request relevant. Tell the business owner why you think a prize from them would be perfect for your event.

4. Tell the owner about the event. Saying that the business’ logo can also be on a programme or displayed on the prize table for everyone to see, may help the owner feel they are getting some business benefit beyond the pride of supporting a worthy cause.

6. Q Do I need to transfer the money from JustGiving over?

Answer: No, if you have set up a JustGiving page for your fundraising activity, the money comes directly to us.
