Director’s Corner Angie Bruna

I think it’s safe to say that one would have had to been out of the country with no access to digital media or living under a rock to know that the past month has been on Nebraska. There is no doubt that it will take time and resources to fully recover. As I’ve reflected on the after effects, I can’t help but be encouraged and convinced more than ever that our community is full of great people! We’ve had numerous organizations and businesses rally together to collect supplies and funds to share with our neighbors in their time of need. We have volunteers who have jumped in where they can to assist with cleanup. Our school kids took an afternoon to help clean up the parks and ball fields affected in Beatrice. And I know that the efforts will not stop until the job is completed, no matter how long it takes! While pondering all of this, I am reminded of a story told to me by a wise man when we were discussing a topic similar. The story goes something like this: There was a man who lived in a town where nothing good happened, there was nothing to do, nothing that allowed him to be involved. He decided to move to a different community and low and behold, found it to be the same. Now, there was another man who lived in a town that he found exciting and abounded in opportunities for involvement, he loved his community. However, life took an unexpected turn and he had to move – but what did he find in that new town? It was another town that had opportunities and he found himself quite at home after a short amount of time. What was the difference between the two men in the story? That can be summed up in one word – attitude. How you see your community, how you choose to respond to events, how you choose to be proactive or reactive, all make an impact on how your experiences take shape.

Thank you, Beatrice & Gage County, for being full of wonderful people with cando attitudes; people who choose to make positive impacts on our community; who choose to be proactive and step up to help in the time of need. As a resource guide, here are some contacts to share with those in need: The Nebraska Chamber of Commerce & Industry serves as a clearinghouse for matching businesses that have needs with businesses that can help provide solutions. 30.90 Progressive Luncheon

YPG Networking Event - Classic’s Bar & Grill

Thank you so much to everyone who came and networked with us at this year’s 30.90 Progressive Luncheon! We were overwhelmed with the support we received for this year’s Progressive Luncheon! OVER 30 people were able to come and help make this event successful. Upon arrival, everyone was given a name-tag with instructions as to where they would sit. The guests were treated to a three course meal, enjoying each course with a new group of faces. Word-of-Mouth Advertising Definition: An unpaid form of promotion in which satisfied customers tell other people how much they like a business, product or service. Word-of-mouth advertising is important for every business, as each happy customer can steer dozens of new ones your way. And it’s one of the most credible forms of advertising because a person puts their reputation on the line every time they make a recommendation and that person has nothing to gain but the appreciation of those who are listening. What are you doing to make sure your target customers feel confident enough in your business to recommend it? Do your target customers even know about your business?

Just wanted to let you and everyone else involved know that this was a great event and my co-workers and I really enjoyed getting to meet so many people in the community while also having a delicious lunch! Thank you! -30.90 Guest

We LOVE putting on events like this one because it gives our members a chance to let others in the area know who they are and what they’re about. You don’t just sell your product, you need to be able to sell your service as well. When people know you and have a connection with you, they’ll want to help support you and your business, and they’ll know through networking events like this one that you want to do the same for them. When we, as a community, come together to lift everyone up, we all succeed.

Guys, business is booming.

You always seem to hear about businesses in our area closing, going bankrupt, or just moving out of town. It’s really easy to focus on those things, but only focusing on and spreading the news about one failed business gives us a false sense that the economic climate in Beatrice and Gage County isn’t good. As the Membership Coordinator, I go out and make visits to members and potential members every week to hear how things are going and find out what’s new. What’s the one constant that I keep hearing? Business is great. Obviously there are slow times, but the majority of businesses are looking up, not trending down. Just this past month I visited with two businesses with “big plans” of expansion and growth happening with-in the year. These aren’t huge companies, these are everyday business owners. If I could ask people for one thing, it’d be not to give in to people spreading negativity and trash talking our community. Maybe fight back with something positive, because it’s not so bad. Take a drive through downtown or past the Indian Creek Mall on a Friday night or over the weekend. You’ll see cars everywhere and people shopping. This is a great place to live!

Homestead Nat’l Monument of America National Volunteer Week and “Volunteers of the Year” at Homestead National Monument of America Homestead National Monument of America celebrates and recognizes the efforts of its volunteers, especially during National Volunteer Week (April 7-13, 2019)! Volunteers are critical to the health and well-being of Homestead National Monument of America. Last year, the park called on 804 individual volunteers—called “VIPs” or “Volunteers in Parks”—to help with a variety of events, school groups, research projects, grounds and building care, and more. Altogether, the volunteers supplied 24,375 hours of volunteer time to Homestead National Monument of America. These volunteers do a great service for the park, and, by extension, for their community and for their Nation. Every November, we recognize one of these volunteers as the park’s “Volunteer of the Year.” The Volunteer of the Year program was established at Homestead National Monument of America in 2002. All of the past winners of the Homestead National Monument of America “Volunteer of the Year” award have included:
