Barra Bunting The aim of Barra Bun ng is to unite a worldwide community by bringing them together on one project that everyone can take-part in. We would like people to make one bun ng ag of their own design. The only qualiďŹ ca on needed for making a ag is that you must have set foot on Barra and/or Vatersay. All ags created will be sewn together and a large amount of bun ng created that can be used at events throughout Barra and Vatersay. Barra Bun ng also create an archive of all the ags. For this archive we would like to know a li#le about yourself and your ag. We would like you to send the following informa on to accompany your ag:- Name, Year of birth, Where you live, Your rela onship with Barra and/or Vatersay, What your ag represents and a picture of yourself.
How do I make my ag? (see template on the reverse) There are a number of ways to make your ag however there are two methods below. The important points to remember are:•
It is to be roughly the same size and shape as the template on the reverse.
•
It is to be made of fabric or yarn (embellishments can be made of other materials)
•
It is to be s tched (not glued) so that it will last for years to come.
Method One Cut two pieces of fabric; the piece for the front of the ag and the backing material larger than the template on the reverse to allow for a seam.
Barra Bun ng started in 2012 and now is the oďŹƒcial island Guestbook. So it you have been please send us a ag.
Once you have ďŹ nished your ag design, put your fabric together right sides facing and s ch down the two long sides.
What should I put on my ag?
Turn your ag the right way round.
Your ag design can be anything you like. It could simply be a piece of fabric you like or that means something to you. You could use more than one piece of fabric to create a collage or patchwork eect. You could decorate your ag with embellishments such as bu#ons, embroidery, ribbon etc‌ Just let your imagina on go and see what you can come up with. We have also had kni#ed, crocheted, woven, screen-printed, embroidered and cross-s tch ags—so please don’t be constrained to if you don’t want to be.
Method Two
I need help... There will be a number of bun ng workshops throughout the year to help you with your ag. Perhaps you have a great idea but are not sure where to start or you would just like a bit of guidance, if so, then just drop in. At each workshop there will be fabric and access to a sewing machine so you can make your whole ag there and then. Workshop dates will be adver sed and on the website www.barrabun ng.net or ďŹ nd us on Facebook / Twi#er:@barrabun ng barrabun ng@barrahebrides.com
Using pinking shears cut two pieces of fabric; the piece for the front of the ag and the backing material . Once you have ďŹ nished your ag design put your fabric together wrong sides facing and s ch down the two long sides. Top of ag Don’t worry about ďŹ nishing o the top of the ag as this can be done when all the ags are being s tched together by our local bun ng team. Finished? Please send your completed ag along with informa on to:Barra Bun ng Beairteas Bharraigh Ltd BĂšth Bharraigh Building Castlebay, Isle of Barra, HS9 5XD
