My name is Regina Maestri and I truly love Pueblo. I remember as a small child visiting our parks, the state fair, and our great local businesses. As a kid from a small town, Pueblo was a beautiful city full of promise and opportunity. I fell in love and have been proud to call this my home for more than 33 years. Like many of you, I’ve become extremely disappointed in Pueblo’s leadership, and how our beloved city has become unrecognizable, and unaffordable. That’s why three years ago I committed to run for City Council District 1’s representative – and why today I’m asking for your vote to become the next Mayor of Pueblo.

You are my boss, and YOU do the hiring and firing around here. So, more directly, I’m asking for the chance to continue to serve as your grassroots voice in City Hall, based on my proven ability to stand for the people. Not empty promises, not campaign rhetoric, but based on my proven value and most importantly, based on my proven dedication to you, and our community.

As a mom and a grandma, I’m tired of seeing my American Dream and our city be desecrated in the media. Pueblo families deserve better than elected officials’ content with rising crime, rising drug use, out-of-control homelessness, and a struggling economy.

We voted in a strong mayor form of government – and still no progress. We’ve invested in attractions to increase tourism, but many are incomplete, not maintained, and mismanaged. Hardworking Pueblo taxpayers deserve more.

Unlike the others running for mayor, I am not doing this for personal popularity or a paycheck. I am doing this because families deserve a cleaner, safer city to call home. As the mayor, I’ll implement strategies to

clean up our city, to reduce crime, trash, homelessness, and the ineffective leadership that wastes your hard-earned dollars.

I speak with constituents on a regular basis and the consensus remains the same - they are tired of empty promises and “economic development” that ends with poor results, low paying jobs, and the wasted investment of hardworking taxpayers.

Pueblo may be known for being a good ol’ boys’ club, so why re-elect one? We can’t keep electing the same leaders – from both sides of the aisle – which have underserved us for years while padding their own pockets. Together, we can take our city back! Thanks for the chance to earn your important vote this election. My promise is to always stand for you, your family, and your business. So we can enjoy a cleaner, safer, more prosperous Pueblo. CITY OF PUEBLO PARKS AND REC PARTNERS FOR SKATEBOARD PARK IMPROVEMENTS

PUEBLO—On Monday, June 26 Pueblo City Council approved the $45,000 allocation of ARPA dollars to improve concrete skateboard park amenities at J.J. Raigoza Park, Moynihan Park and Sergeant Blake Harris Skateboard Park located at Pueblo City Park.

“This skateboard park project is an opportunity to engage youth in the Pueblo community to learn trade skills and take pride in the skateboard parks they use in their own neighborhoods,” said Director of Pueblo Parks and Recreation Steven Meier. “We are looking forward to seeing the new amenities in each of the parks.”

The City of Pueblo Parks and Recreation Department plans to recruit young people who are interested in learning practical trade skills and apply them to job skills, teamwork and building confidence through graffiti

form building and updating skate parks with QR codes. Learned skills include drawing, concrete design, geometry, physics and skating. Youth involved at each park can learn how to skate during the project even if they have never skated previously or can learn to improve their skills.

The projects will teach youth and involve them in the building of different features to completion. Moynihan Park proposed update features include quarter pipes and fun box, J.J. Raigoza Park proposed feature includes a three-sided pyramid and the proposed feature at Sergeant Black Harris Skateboard Park is a concrete

Construction is anticipated to begin this fall. Each project is anticipated to be completed within four weeks from start to finish with an anticipated completion date for all three skateboard parks next spring.

The City of Pueblo received two rounds of allocations of ARPA funds, totaling $36.4 million dollars to be obligated by Dec. 31, 2024, and expended by Dec. 31, 2026.

The City of Pueblo was established in 1842, incorporated in 1870 and is proudly called the “Home of Heroes”.

seat. I have no problem with workers making more money. They should. Most employees are doing 2-3 jobs that are packaged as one job. But in no way does this help inflation. It’s further confirmation that the $6 trillion recently printed is here to stay. How can anyone lower wages (a key part of inflation), unless we have a bad economy?

The inflation genie is permanently out of the bottle.

Walmart (symbol: WMT) just announced a truck driver program where employees can earn up to $110,000 a year driving the big rigs. This unique program trains folks, many current Walmart employees, to help fill driver shortages. Also, the 340,000 UPS (symbol: UPS) workers, represented by the Brotherhood of Teamsters, have reached a deal to keep driving and shipping.

In general, this is good for our economy, market stability, and you and me being able to buy stuff. But it’s an indicator of inflationary pressures, too. These two glaring examples show who’s in the driver’s

So if inflation persists that must mean interest rates have to either stay up or we have to go into a recession to take down pricing. We are truly “damned if we do or damned if we don’t.” And one may lead to the other.

This drives us into the stagflation I told you about 2 years ago. We have low growth because rates are slowing activity, price and currency inflation remains high, and economic and market weakness may follow.

RECESSION FEARS AND PREDICTIONS

Today’s economy has been called the most-anticipated recession ever.

Everyone was predicting it, including me. I don’t think experts want one but are simply trying to help guide investors. But this recession keeps not happening. Many experts have changed their minds or at least kicked the can down the road. Many are now saying by the end of this year, or even into 2024, we’re in for a recession.

SAME OPINION

At least everyone seems to be on the same page: No one knows what to expect in this strange economy or when to expect it. So my opinion remains the same. Have a smart allocation that includes riskfree Treasury bills and bonds. Overweight U.S. value stocks but still hold growth. Test the waters in select prospects like emerging markets, which are incredibly low-priced, and individual stock opportunities. And make your portfolio work hard by producing very

high investment income.

FROM THE CAVE

To start off this very special month we have a little "teacher" humor especially in honor for my dear wife, Jeannie!!! She's the greatest. Taught private, Catholic and public school for over 30 years and continues to teach me daily for almost 50 years! Except the two when we were just dating. She was just buttering me up methinks!

TEACHER: Why are you late Joseph?

JOSEPH: Class started before I got here.

TEACHER: John, why are you doing your math multiplication on the floor?

JOHN: You told me to do it without using tables.

TEACHER: Glenn, how do you spell 'crocodile?'

GLENN: K-R-O-K-O-D-IA-L.'

TEACHER: No, that's wrong.

GLENN: Maybe it is wrong, but you asked me how I spell it.

TEACHER: Donald, what is the chemical formula for water?

DONALD: H I J K L M N O.

TEACHER: What are you talking about?

DONALD: Yesterday you said it's H to O.

TEACHER: Winnie, name one important thing we have today that we didn't have ten years ago.

WINNIE: Me!

TEACHER: Glen, why do you always get so dirty?

GLEN: Well, I'm a lot closer to the ground than you are.

TEACHER: George Washington not only chopped down his father's cherry tree, but also admitted it. Now, Louie, do you know why his father didn't punish him?

LOUIS: Because George still had the axe in his hand.

TEACHER: Now, Simon, tell me frankly, do you say prayers before eating?

SIMON: No sir, I don't have to, my Mum is a good cook.

TEACHER: Clyde, your

composition on 'My Dog' is exactly the same as your brother's. Did you copy his?

CLYDE : No, sir. It's the same dog.

TEACHER: Harold, what do you call a person who keeps on talking when people are no longer interested?

HAROLD: A teacher.

Okay everyone, here we go! The reason this month is special is because it's the end of an era for Senior Beacon and the members of Pueblo and Southern Colorado! Senior Beacon because The Pueblo Chieftain, "THE PUEBLO CHIEFTAIN!!!!!!" presses will no longer be printing anything! It is in its 154th year!!! Do the math. That means it started printing in, drum roll please, 1869(?).

The question mark is because the first issue would have been year one, number one and that always mixes me up. Now, I'm not saying the Chieftain will cease to exist but the owners of the Chieftain, Gannett News, has decided that it would be in their best interests to have the Chieftain printed in Denver at The Denver Post and then trucked down to

Pueblo. Who knows how that will work but they'll figure out something. They may even bring back the Saturday paper. Who knows?

All this tech stuff has put the printed word in a precarious spot. The younger whipper-snappers, it appears, don't like to get their hands inky. Hey, progress goes in many directions. Sometimes all at once. But, for now it is the end of a 154 year journey. Who da thunk printing a newspaper in Pueblo would come to an end. It's a sad day indeed.

Ever hear the expression "Drive-by Media?" It was big for about 20 or so years back around the turn of the century and a bit forward. I believe it was "fathered" by the deceased Rush Limbaugh (and there goes many of my readers). Like him or not he was a brilliant businessman and he single-handedly brought back AM Radio which was dying just like the printed word is now. Why he used it was because he likened what the headlines of his day were blared without any real content. Just like a bunch of miscreants were doing driving by an enemy's home shooting up the

place and then moving on to the next house where they wanted to prove their dominance. Their superiority. They didn't care if they killed someone or ruined the homes of the people inside. He claimed that the media did the same thing. The Mainstream Media that is. This was when some special news outlets tended to make a big noise out of some information with blaring headlines claiming this or that, never caring about the real truth about what their headlines were expressing (I think all the major news outlets were exposed doing that back then including television, major news magazines and such). They had egg on their collective faces because, let's be kind and say stretched the truth to keep us all scared and worried which would get them more readers, listeners and watchers so they could make the big bucks from advertisers who in turn made big bucks from the scared and the worried.

I say this because they're still doing

‘LIGHT FOR THE JOURNEY’

others about behavior that is contrary to God’s holy will.

THERE IS A THIEF AMONG US—SEX AND GENDER IDENTITY

Idon’t know how the other churches in our cities here in Colorado are addressing the topic of gender and sexuality, but our pastor has decided to tackle the subject head on in his Sunday messages.

I am glad that he is acknowledging the fact that this is not only a social issue or even another political battle but is, more importantly, a spiritual matter of eternal consequence and which affects every arena of human life.

As Christians we ought not to view this as a taboo subject nor should we try to flick it away as if we’d rather not be bothered by it and just go on our holy way pretending it is someone else’s problem. I have heard that some churches are affirming the deviation of sexuality and gender identity and see it as another opportunity to show our Christian love. That kind of love is inconsistent with the kind of love that Jesus displayed when He warned

Our pastor has taken a different path to helping us understand the damaging effects of this very challenging concern. That path is to see it from another perspective. Our current culture is looking at it through the eyes of those who have succumbed to the first lie, “Did God actually say…?” and “You will not surely die.” (Genesis 3:1,4). Others are viewing it through political eyes: “In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes.” (Judges 17:6)

The path our pastor has taken is to look at the subject of sexuality and gender identity from God’s perspective. And no wonder. After all it was God who made us in His image, male and female. And it was God who said, “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”

(Genesis 2:24)

Getting a good grasp on those first three chapters of Genesis is probably the finest thing a person can do. To truly understand the miraculous wonder of God’s breathtaking extraordinary work of creation and His unique design of every single molecule, atom, cell and organism boggles the mind. That word, design, is critical as we grapple with this subject. DESIGN involves purpose, intent, plan, blueprint and objective. As a matter of fact, that’s what DNA is all about. Yet it's more than DNA. We humans were created to be a family that would glorify and enjoy our Creator God forever.

That is a lofty aim and that’s what God wants us to understand. He did not simply pick up a handful of dirt off the ground that He had created a few days earlier, pat it into a lump of flesh, do a little CPR to bring it to life and then let it go. That’s the stuff of SciFi and fantasy movies.

Our creator God said, “Let Us make man in Our image.” It was an agreement among the three Persons of the Godhead—Father, Son and Holy Spirit—a plan to make human beings for a special purpose, according to a unique design. He didn’t just say, “Let there be” as He said when He created all the rest of our universe. He said, “Let Us make man in Our image!” We are the apex, the high point of His creation! Everything He created before He created us was preparation for us. Why? Because He had something special in mind for us.

First of all He made us male and female so that we could “Be fruitful and multiply.” Psalm 139:13-16 says, “For you formed my inward parts; And you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are

your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.”

God made each of us exactly the way He wanted to. He didn’t make any mistakes. He gave you your identity. But a thief has risen up among God’s creatures and stolen something very precious. Remember God said,” Let Us make man in Our image!” That’s who we are, that’s our identity! We are humanity made in God’s image. When we attempt to thwart God’s design, plan, purpose, and intent we are treading on dangerous ground.

The thief has stolen many identities lately. We know who that thief is. Jesus said he is a liar and a murderer. Well, he is also a thief. I know about this devil because I lived in his dark realm. He stole much from me, and I let him

plunder me for years. How could I have been so easily trapped. No, I was not caught up in the LBGT+ or transgender snare. My story is different and the reason I even mention this is because I want others to know that no matter what kind of lie you have fallen for, there is hope and redemption in Jesus Christ. He will restore everything that the lying thief has stolen from you. I hope and pray that pastors and church leaders everywhere will stand up and love people enough to

TO THE INTERNET MOVIE DATA BASE, Oscar-winner Nicolas Cage (LEAVING LAS VEGAS) has acted in 116 films – and I’ve seen most of them. Looking over that list proves he likes to make different kinds of movies. And now he has picked THE OLD WAY, a Western that takes place in the 1890s.

Cage plays Colton Briggs, a former gunslinger and bounty hunter. The reformed Briggs is now a husband and father who runs a peaceful country store.. But because of a brutal event involving his wife (Kerry Kruppe), Briggs transforms into his previous self and goes into vengeance mood. And he takes his serene preteen daughter Brooke (Ryan Kiera Armstrong) along with him. That means he teaches her how to shoot and kill.

THE OLD WAY relies on interesting costumes to help show Cage’s dual character. For example, take a look at the film’s poster and you will see turned-up edges on his cowboy hat that look a bit like the devil’s horns. That’s Colton’s revengeful persona. His peaceful self looks quite plain. .

A reformed gunslinger goes back to killing for revenge, his knack. Nicolas Cage plays this key part and does so with an actor’s heart.

THE OLD WAY concentrates on Cage. But a young girl earns all the rage. Kiera Armstrong should earn fame as Cage’s daughter without shame.

While not a Western at its best the horses pass most of the test.

I love watching horses gallop across the screen! It reminds me of happier times when I spent time with my grandparents at their cattle ranch and got to ride my favorite horse over the prairie with no speed limit. Those were the days!

But back to Cage and THE OLD WAY. Although this is his first Western, its revenge theme seems comfortable for Cage. He does revenge in several offerings. My favorite? RAGE, of course. Both films fascinated me by Cage’s ability to draw me into his performance. As I mentioned in my RAGE review, after seeing almost all of this actor’s films – good, bad and in

between -- I continue to be a fan whether watching him do comedy, drama, action or romance. His appeal? Probably because although he doesn’t look like a traditional movie star, he usually appears so believable in the diverse and quirky roles he takes on. Plus, his deep

baritone voice seals the deal for me.

In THE OLD WAY, Cage’s character isn’t the only one with vengeance on his

mind. So does the villain, played vigorously by Noah LeGross. We have to admit he has reasons to kill Colton Briggs. There is also a U.S. Marshall (Nick Searcy) and his deputies in the mix. This is no BLAZING SADDLES, It’s all-out serious revenge.

However, youngster Ryan Kiera Armstrong impressed me the most in this new Western. Her thoughtful performance brings realism to her every scene. Here’s hoping she gets many roles in the future.

it. Just last year we were told how horrible the drought was and we're all gonna be in big trouble, especially those west of us who depend on the Colorado River that was drying up and there would be no electricity and yadda-yadda-yadda. You know how they scared us to death about the forest fires. Well now it is the heat. Rolling brown-outs are coming. There will be dead bodies strewn all over our western cities. I sure got a kick out of a recent foray by the Drive By Media telling us that this is the hottest it's ever been in the last 120,000 years!!!! Yep by ½ degree!!!! I remember temps of 109 degrees here in Pueblo several times in the recent past. Oh, and remember that we we're all gonna die because of all the hurricanes and how they would ravage us relentlessly. Well, if you're reading this you know that whatever they tell us is meant to fool us so we're in a constant state of stress. Do any of these people believe in a Higher Power? I know they are journalists. They go to college in places like Syracuse University and Northwestern University and the like. Our Universities and their students are so closed minded that unless say, a speaker, comes there to discuss a subject that offends their sensitivities they must shout the speaker down with vile language and learn nothing but what their professors claim is the only way of the world. Ah well, there I go again. Happy rest of summer everyone. Kick back and let whatever comes our way and know that there is a Higher Power who in one spring wiped out 20 years of drought which was nonsense too (the 20 years of drought). But that's enough on scaring people to death, like the drive-by shooters do.

Please don't forget that I can guarantee you a way you can make heaven. Balderdash you say! Well call me on it and see for yourself what Jesus Christ said to St. Maria Faustina Kowalska at the beginning of WWII concerning punching a ticket to eternity. It's in a small pamphlet entitled Divine Mercy Novena and Chaplet. Just email me at srbeacon@gmail.com sending me your name and address so I can send the pamphlet and see for yourself. No strings attached. Hey, look it up yourself if your so inclined. I'm sure it's on line somewhere.

Godspeed to you and yours as we continue to move forward on this orb!

Remember the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, Jesus's promise in his own words as told to Maria Faustina Kowalska of Poland (you could look up her life in many ways) at the beginning of WWII. That promise guarantees a place in heaven (the words of Jesus, not mine or Her's). I have the prayers and His promise in a pamphlet that is yours for free. Just contact me at SRbeacon@gmail.com or P.O. Box 7215, Pueblo West, CO 81007-0215 and give me your name and address and I'll send you this wonderful pamphlet. Foot and Ankle Safety Tips for the Summer Months

(StatePoint) From the beach to the backyard, taking care of your feet and ankles in summer is essential.

“Nothing ruins summer fun faster than a problem with your feet. However, a few smart precautions can help keep you healthy and safe,” says Gretchen Lawrence, DPM, AACFAS, a board-cer tified foot and ankle surgeon and an associate member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS).

To help you understand some of the most common summer risks to feet and how to avoid them, ACFAS is sharing these insights:

• Puncture wounds: Millions of Americans go barefoot every summer, and thousands will sustain cuts and puncture wounds. To prevent injury and infection, wear shoes whenever possible and get vaccinated against tetanus. If you do get a puncture wound, see a foot and ankle surgeon within 24 hours and don’t swim until it’s healed. Bacteria in oceans and lakes can cause infection.

• Pool problems: Always wear flip

flops or other footwear in locker rooms and on pool decks to prevent contact with bacteria and viruses that can cause athlete’s foot, plantar warts and other problems.

• Sun damage and skin cancer: Don’t overlook your feet during your sun protection routine. Feet get sunburned too, and melanoma on the foot or ankle is more likely to be misdiagnosed than on any other part of the body. A study published in “The Journal of Foot & Ankle Surgery” reported the overall survival rate for melanoma of the foot or ankle is just 52%, in sharp contrast to the 85%

or down them.

• Travel concerns: Sitting for long stretches can increase the risk of dangerous blood clots. “Whether road tripping or flying, regularly stretch your legs and pump your feet to circulate blood. Wearing compression socks for longer travel is also a good idea,” says Dr. Lawrence.

• Diabetes complications: If you have diabetes, prolonged hot and humid weather can lead to numerous foot woes. Any type of skin break has the potential to get infected if it isn’t noticed right away, and exposure can cause dry,

cracking skin. Inspect your feet daily and wear closed shoes whenever possible. Swelling is another hot-weather risk, potentially making shoes fit tighter which can cause blisters. Compression stockings may not sound appealing in hot temperatures, but they can reduce swelling and help prevent poor circulation. Finally, never go barefoot in summer. Impaired nerve sensation can

make it hard to detect just how hot surfaces are. Just a few minutes walking barefoot on pavement to grab the newspaper can cause third-degree burns.

sShires of Britain…Imagine. Nestled amid lush, emerald green rolling hills of Britain are stunning hamlets within innumerable shires notoriously revealed in ‘Lord of the Rings.’ My birth place of Cheshire is one of them. A magnificent county in England reveals innumerable haunted Elizabethan homes. Despite the quiet solitude of country estates and self-effacing villages, ghostly paranormal activity intrusion, upon these historic structures is rampant, also well documented; results of endless investigations

by scientists, teachers, professors and other academics: Not to mention many locals. Seizing the imagination, the towering red stone building of Linlithgow Palace was historically Mary Queen of Scot’s birthplace, and subsequently her cherished home.

In 1746 brutally defeated by Jacobite forces General Hawley’s army retreated. Clothes thoroughly soaked and overwhelmed by squelching rain; they surged inside finding instant solace near the roaring log fireplace. Wine flowed, wet garments discarded and soon merriment momentarily erased their pitiful past dishonor. The men, without forethought and drunk with alcohol, added many more logs causing a sudden eruption of flames which quickly engulfed the chamber. Ultimately, many quarters became instant furnaces, leaving much of the castle devastated; instantaneously… an ashen, pallid memory of years gone by. To this day, usually around midnight, and preceded by a delicate perfume, a white clad transparent figure hovers over the staircase. An amiable, gentle vision emits sad uncanny sighs, while guarding her historic remains. Today Mary Queen of Scot’s heartbreaking image remains a significant feature of Linlithgow Palace.

Steeped in tradition and mystical activities, the west of England has no competition. Vast bastions of Celtic England include picturesque green hills of Summerset. My own grandfather’s birthplace of Cornwall defines Bodmin More’s isolated existence, a place of historic reputation, based on fact and legend, where King Arthur was taken to die…you decide. Leaning lazily against erratically placed structures, stone circles form sporadic shapes and silhouettes, against a stark unyield-

ing background.

Moving on to Dozmary Pool, near a

tumultuous water’s edge, history re-counts stories of Sir Bedivere transporting a dying King Arthur. Rapidly, a spirited arm clothed in white caught Excalibur by the hilt, brandishing three times; rapidly dragging him beneath the water.

Mary King’s Close ‘like a time machine’ was my own first impression of Edinborough, it’s dark primeval cobblestoned streets and silent shadows. All so comparable to yesteryear, equally ancient as it was in 1545… the Middle Ages. Silent shadows, and palpable antiquity is currently prevalent, and more apparent to the tourist than to residents; once a place of the worst disease-ridden tenements in Europe. The Plague continues to be revealed as traces of the past. Buried below an 18th. Century building and hidden from tourist’s whims still exists a rat infested ‘Mary Kings Close.’

During 1645 locals unable to contain this devastating disease, and inhumane contagion, decided that parts of this structure would be ‘walled off,’ leaving its inhabitants to suffer a solitary predictable death.

The stench permeated far beyond the reconstructed walls. To control the ensuing putrefaction, skillful butchers severed decaying arms and legs, all piled into wheel barrows transported as multiple body parts were instantly incinerated. Even now, as hundreds of years ago, many ghostly apparitions wander uncontrollably. A middle-aged couple of visitors (tourists,) met a grisly disembodied head, the wispy gray beard with vicious eyes floated randomly escorted by a severed arm. Deformed and haphazard phantom creatures and tiny children were included in these inexplicable images.

Among countless remarkable and

Apparently, the loss of her favourite doll induced a need for seclusion, and therefore as a result loneliness. This waiflike creature of the past evidently weeps aloud; an endearing, yet heartbreaking sound resonating from the humid, dank interior of that room. Once aware of her predictable

death, present day tourists still leave parcels of toys and books in remembrance of this tiny waif, all piled in one corner of a room. In 1750 the newly constructed Royal Exchange, known as the City Chambers now exists above the ‘hidden rooms’ of Mary King’s Close, which currently remain available for prebooked excursions, and acknowledged as the most haunted area of Edinborough…

Thought for the day:

While it’s impossible restraining one’s evil thoughts or deeds, realize other forms of good are a possibility. The same energy is equal, good or bad, and one is transmissible to the other.

LOCAL REPRESENTATIVE

REP. BOEBERT VOTES TO INCREASE FUNDING FOR VETERANS’ BENEFITS

CONGRESSWOMAN LAUREN

BOEBERT

BY OVER $1.5

VOTED TO INCREASE FUNDING FOR VETERANS’ BENEFITS

BILLION more than the discretionary funding level containing in the Democrats’ Appropriation’s bill last year. Additionally, the Appropriations bill contained six of Congresswoman Boebert’s amendments that passed the House yesterday with unanimous, bipartisan consent to redirect an additional $13,000,000 to directly assisting veterans.

Congresswoman Lauren Boebert (CO-03) stated, “My support for the members of our military does not end when their service is complete. Colorado is home to one of the largest veteran populations in the Nation—many of whom reside in rural areas. I work every day to deliver results for these heroes who have entrusted me to be their Representative in Congress. I have a strong record supporting our veterans. This week alone, I passed six amendments through the House to increase funding for veterans’ care by $13,000,000 and voted to increase funding for veterans’ benefits by over $1.5 billion.

I have also returned over $506,000 to veterans in Colorado’s Third District via constituent casework, voted for the VA Transparency and Trust Act of 2021, voted for the Tuition

Fairness for Survivors Act, helped restart Honor Flight after the pandemic, helped reopen the National Personnel Records Center, and voted for and cosponsored legislation that helps our veterans.”

WE BUILD MORE THAN ROOFS

WE BUILD RELATIONSHIPS

“The roofing crew arrived promptly at 7 AM, got a quick tour of the rabbit herd in the garage, and went right to work. They're a hard-working bunch who completed the job in one day. The roof looks great! Thanks Daniel and Delany and the guys!” --Doug

Background:

H.R. 4366, the FY24 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs (VA), and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, fully funds veterans’ healthcare programs, VA modernization initiatives, and veterans’ benefits to ensure that our veterans receive the care they have earned. It also fully funds programs assisting veterans to address toxic exposure issues and ensure that our veterans are fully cared for.

The bill also includes funding that will increase the quality of life for servicemembers and their families across the country by allocating over $17 billion for military housing and over $293 million for constructing new child development centers. Additionally, the appropriations bill funds projects that will improve the quality of life on military bases across the country by building new infrastructure.

Congresswoman Boebert’s extensive record serving the veterans of Colorado’s Third District is available here.

The appropriations bill also included six of Congresswoman Boebert’s amendments that will redirect an additional $13,000,000 to directly assisting veterans. Congresswoman Boebert’s six amendments that passed the House with unanimous, bipartisan consent include:

Boebert Amendment No. 89

Redirects $2,000,000 and provides additional funding for the Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program, veterans’ telehealth, and healthcare for veterans living in rural areas. The Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program

supports suicide prevention programs in Colorado’s Third District, including veterans’ services in Pueblo, Alamosa, Conejos, Costilla, Huerfano, Las Animas, Otero, Rio Grande, and Saguache counties.

Boebert Amendment No. 65

Redirects $3,000,000 and provides additional funding for increasing resources for medical research and prosthetic research. This funding will ensure that our veterans receive cutting-edge medical care from the VA.

Boebert Amendment No. 71

Redirects $2,000,000 and provides additional funding for helping the Board of Veterans’ Appeals reduce its backlog so that veterans’ claims can be adjudicated in a timely manner. The current backlog exceeds 200,000 cases and has prevented veterans from receiving the care they earned in a timely manner.

Boebert Amendment No. 91

Redirects $2,000,000 and provides additional funding for the National Cemetery Administration to increase access to burial benefits for veterans.

Boebert Amendment No. 92

Redirects $2,000,000 and provides additional funding grants for Construction of Veterans Cemeteries program to assist state and tribal governments in providing burial benefits for veterans in rural areas lacking a VA national cemetery.

Boebert Amendment No. 93

Redirects $2,000,000 and provides additional funding for the construction of new state extended care facilities for veterans.
