Rep. Schiff announces Annual Art Contest and online voting Rep. Adam Schiff (DBurbank) announced that he will host the annual Congressional Art Competition Forum & Exhibit for the 28th District, featuring high school students’ artwork from the region, on Sunday, April 27. The Congressional Art Competition is an annual contest, with submissions from across the country. The winner from each Congressional District has their work displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year. In addition, Schiff has opened up the competition with a “People’s Choice” award, which will be decided through an online vote. To vote for the “People’s Choice,” constituents should go to Schiff’s website. Voting will be open from Monday, April 14th through Wednesday, April 23rd. “Every year, I am amazed at the talent and creativity displayed in the art I receive from students across the 28th Congressional District. This year, students, their families and constituents from across our community will be able to weigh in – just like the esteemed panel of judges – and pick their favorite for the ‘People’s Choice’ winner online,” said Schiff. “I look forward to seeing all the entries and welcoming artists and their families at the exhibition. Go to my website and vote – I’m excited to see who my constituents pick as the winner.” The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for Members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, over 650,000 high school students have participated in the nationwide competition. The first place winner’s artwork will hang in the U.S. Capitol for one year, the piece awarded second place will hang in the CongressPlease see page 2

Thousands gather at El Monte High to remember Adrian Castro

Calvin Aceves, who survived the crash, told thousands gathered at El Monte that he sat in front of Castro on the bus last Thursday. Castro, an El Monte High School football player and oldest of three boys, let Aceves lean his seat back then plugged in speakers to his phone so the people around him could listen to music. “He passed away trying to help others,” Aceves was consoled by Coach Joel Sanchez as he broke down in tears. –Photo by Terry Miller

BY DENA BURROUGHS Thousands of people gathered at the El Monte High School (EMHS) quad Monday night to celebrate the life of Adrian Castro, one of ten people who died last Thursday when a charter bus collided with a Fedex truck near Orland, CA. Adrian was a popular

18-year-old, part of the Lions football squad and remembered for his always pleasant demeanor. He was on his way to Humboldt State University, a school he was considering to attend next year because he was interested in a career in kinesiology. Mucus Recovery System BY DOROTHY DENNE My friend was in the hospital recently. Her bill for the stay was really something quite atrocious. We were looking over it to see what some of the cost components were. The cheapest item on the bill sounded intriguing and seemed quite a bargain at only $10.00. It was called "Mucus Recovery System." Now sometimes when my curiosity gets aroused, I just have to get some satisfaction. You know the old saying, "Curiosity killed the cat. Yeah, but satisfaction brought him back." Well, the cat is back. I found out that "Mucus Recovery System" translates to "a box of tissues."

At $10 a box, so much for a bargain. The price is a little steep, but I sure like that moniker. If blowing one's nose can ever be considered elegant, blowing it into a Mucus Recovery System would do it. Her hospital bill set me to thinking about some other bills we receive that list things I bet most of us don't know the meaning of. For example, do you know what a Competition Transition Charge is? Me neither, but it is on my electric bill. That along with Nuclear Decommissioning Charges, Public Purpose Program Charges, Franchise Fees, and a New System Generation Charge came to quite a

hefty amount. That sent me to the gas bill. Pretty short and to the point. You used this amount, you pay this amount for it. On to the phone bill where I found some interesting fees and surcharges. Okay. There was an interesting CHCF-A and CHCF-B. I'm told that stands for CA High Cost Fund. Really clears that one up doesn't it? There is also a thing called Universal Connectivity Charge. The bill says I can call an 800 number for an explanation of this charge. I think I might do that. First I have to grab a Mucus Recovery System. My allergies are bad.

A new California Appellate case just published August 8, 2013, “Glaski v. Bank of America”, holds that a homeowner can challenge his lender’s right to foreclose by showing that the Deed of Trust never made it into the securitized trust until after the trust’s closing date. This is the case in most loans made in the last 12 years. If the bank foreclosed we should be able to get the homeowner money damages and/or the house back. Or a lawsuit could be filed and a court ruling obtained preventing the court from foreclosing. Recently enacted Sections 2924(a)(6) and 2924.19 of California Civil Code provide the same relief to homeowners. It is highly suggested that homeowners take this window of opportunity to get relief before the banks get Congress to close this door with national legislation. Contact us so we can help you.

There’s a communal feeling of support towards the Castro family, and at EMHS a sense of additional brotherhood towards Adrian’s father, Raul Castro, whom others called “Red” back in 1988 when he attended the same school. A large banner was hung from the high school’s fence over the weekend, where teammates and residents have been leaving notes and good byes, like Isaiah’s, which reads: “Rest in peace Adrian. You were a good friend and even

though it’s only been a day I miss you already. Occasionally, we at Beacon Media like to direct the spotlight - if you’ll pardon our shameless pun - on one of our team players within our company. This week we’re focusing on a rather distinctive individual who goes above and beyond the call of duty without question and always, with an enigmatic smile.

Distribution Supervisor & Event Coordinator, Ed Davis has been employed with Beacon Media since October 2013. Davis, a native of Pasadena, is extremely involved in many community events throughout the year. As a volunteer with the Salvation Army, Davis also mentors those going through drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs via the international non-profit organization whose message is simple but powerful: “Volunteers strengthen communities by ensuring that every individual has the opportunity to succeed.” Davis’ dedication to making sure your weekly paper is delivered carefully, accurately and regularly is unequivocal. He methodically checks each and every route our dedicated drivers take and personally sees to it that additional drop sites are

added when the need arises. If there is an error in circulation, Davis quickly corrects the problem…personally. Furthermore, Davis independently puts together a team to make sure the advertisers’ pre-printed insert message messages gets in the newspapers by creating a team to implement this monumental task. This deed takes place at our printer in the wee hours of the morning every Thursday. You will also see Davis at community events such as the recent Santa Anita Derby 5 K run where Beacon Media had a booth. Davis coordinates and orchestrates community partnerships such as this each week - to make sure every community member who gets involved aware that Beacon Media is the leading source connecting your community to the world.

Why Classic?

“Sleep” is our specialty. That’s right, no oxygen, scooters, wheelchairs, beds or other DME. We supply only PAP equipment and related replenishment supplies. This allows us to be real experts in what we do and to concentrate on delivering the patient care that matters. The fact we serve more than 18,000 patients over 18 states and are growing rapidly is testament to our focus and commitment to delivering timely setup and having happy and compliant patients.

Compliance through great patient care

is what really sets us apart from the pack. Our licensed respiratory professionals (respiratory therapists and registered sleep techs) work with patients from the time of setup and throughout their therapy with one goal in mind…to ensure they quickly adapt to their therapy and stay compliant over time.

Our CPAP Circle of Care® program

was carefully designed to achieve this. The first step of the program is for one of our licensed respiratory therapists to complete the setup faceto-face with the patient, either in their home or their doctor’s office, usually within 72 hours of approval. Our R/T will set the machine to the prescription and then educate the patient on its use, care and maintenance. And educate the patient on what to expect over the first days and weeks of their therapy. We set up all patients on the highest quality machines fitted with wireless modems (regardless of insurance). And we leave the modems on the machine indefinitely so as to be

able to continue to collect usage data. After setup patients are passed to our patient care center for ongoing compliance care. Our licensed clinicians make outgoing calls at 72 hours, 30 days and 90 days after setup to interdict any problems patients may be having. A field R/T will make a re-visit to a patient in their home where a problem cannot be resolved over the phone.

Download on Demand® - Driving Compliance

When calling patients we use data generated from our proprietary Download on Demand® software. This takes the raw data streams from patient’s modems, parses the data to produce compliance reports containing key data points and a graph that our clinicians use so that they can have an intelligent conversation with the patient based on that patient’s actual use of their equipment. Of course patients can (and do!) call in to our patient care center for help and advice from our clinicians at any time.

Our goal is to have happy, compliant patients while taking the brunt of the every-day questions patients invariably have. This relieves the burden from our referring physician’s offices who otherwise have to deal with this call volume, and depending on the experience of the doctor in this field, may not be able to answer typical questions the patient has regarding equipment issues (e.g. how to fix a leaking mask).

Skeptical?

So you’ve heard it all before? All the DME’s brag that they’re the best and have a great compliance and supply replenishment program.... everybody talks the talk...so who do you believe? Your patients...that’s who! We’ll prove it to you. Send us two or three patients and then ask your patients about the care they received and their opinion of the process... then compare the results to your existing DME provider. Talk to your staff about the interaction they have with our office. Look at our documentation. Reach out to Bill Kleiman (contact info below) to set up an inservice over lunch with your staff to go over our program and answer any questionvs you may have.

If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same Lender may hold more than one mortgage or Deed of Trust on the property. You will be bidding on a lien, not on the property itself. Placing the highest bid at a trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the property. NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER: The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of California Civil Code. The law requires that information about trustee sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and, if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call Priority Posting & Publishing at (714) 573-1965 or visit this Internet Web site www.priorityposting.com using the file number assigned to this case 812W-065674. Information about postponements that are very short in duration or that occur close in time to the scheduled sale may not immediately be reflected in the telephone information or on the Internet Web site.
