DOJ sues state over mask ban, ID requirements for federal agents

TheU.S.Department of Justice on Monday sued to challenge California laws prohibiting federal law enforcement agents from wearing masks and requiring them to clearly identify themselves.

The DOJ's lawsuit filed in Los Angeles federal court names the state, Gov. Gavin Newsom and Attorney General Rob Bonta challenges "their unconstitutional attempt to regulate federal law enforcement officers through the so-called 'No Secret Police Act' and 'No Vigilantes Act.'" In September, Newsom signed laws making California the first state in the nation to prohibit federal agents, including those conducting raids and roving patrols to enforce immigration laws, from concealing their identities and requiring officers not in uniform to visibly display

information such as the agency, officer's name and badge number during enforcement activity.

The laws go into effect Jan. 1, but federal authorities will not comply with them, according to the Justice Department's court filing.

The lawsuit contends the California laws threaten officers' safety as they face harassment, doxing and violence while conducting enforcement operations. DOJ attorneys also argue that the laws violate the Constitution's Supremacy Clause, under which states have no power to regulate the activity of federal agencies.

"Law enforcement officers risk their lives every day to keep Americans safe, and they do not deserve to be doxed or harassed simply for carrying out their duties," U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi said

in a statement. "California's anti-law enforcement policies discriminate against the federal government and are designed to create risk for our agents. These laws cannot stand."

The lawsuit cites Department of Homeland Security data showing an 8,000% increase in death threats against immigration agents and federal law enforcement officers.

"The threats to federal officers are serious and potentially deadly," DOJ attorneys wrote in the lawsuit's court filing, citing DHS data. "They range from taunting, online doxxing, and stalking, to 'vehicles being used as weapons towards' officers and even bounties being 'placed on their heads for their murders.'”

The lawsuit chides

Newsom for vowing to “'push back'" against the Trump administration immigration crackdown.

"His latest resistance — imposing a mask ban and identification requirement on federal agents operating in California — violates the United States Constitution, as even Governor Newsom apparently appreciated when he acknowledged in discussing the mask ban that 'it appears we don’t have the legal authority for federal agents," according to DOJ Civil Division lawyers.

During the bill signing, Newsom said, "ICE, unmask. What are you afraid of? You're going to go out and do enforcement? Provide an ID. Tell us what agency you represent."

Arcadia woman sentenced to prison for top role in $11M money laundering ring

ASan Gabriel Valley woman was sentenced Tuesdaytomore than 10 years behind bars for managing a network of money launderers who collectively moved over $11 million in funds stolen from elderly victims across the country.

Cynthia Song, 43, of Arcadia, was sentenced to 121 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Stanley Blumenfeld Jr., who also ordered her to pay $10 million in restitution, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Song pleaded guilty in downtown Los Angeles in June to one federal count of conspiracy to commit money laundering.

She was arrested in October 2024 after she returned from a trip to Mexico.

Song admitted in her plea agreement to conspiring with others to launder millions stolen from mostly elderly

victims by receiving fraudulently obtained funds and quickly transferring them to overseas accounts, primarily in China.

The defendant recruited at least 15 others -- mainly people of Chinese descent living in the Los Angeles area, some of them in the country unlawfully -- to take part in the scheme. Song instructed recruits to form business entities and open multiple business bank accounts to further disguise the money laundering, prosecutors said.

The U.S. Attorney's Office said at least $11.6 million stolen from over 180 victims flowed through the scheme's bank accounts.

Song and her associates skimmed between 5% to 10% of the funds for themselves before the money was transferred to China, according to her plea agreement filed in Los Angeles federal court.

Attorneysforthe family of a woman killed in the Eaton Fire filed a wrongful death lawsuit Monday against Southern California Edison.

The suit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court alleges the utility's transmission lines ignited the devastating wildfire in January that caused the deaths of 19 people, scorched over 14,000 acres and impacted over 10,000 structures. The lawsuit names Genasys Inc., Southern California Edison Co. and Edison International as defendants.

Stacey Elizabeth Darden, 54, died Jan. 8 in her Altadena home at 2528 N. Marengo Ave., a few blocks west of Lake Avenue, during the firestorm fueled by intense Santa Ana winds.

Attorneys Douglas Boxer and Mikal Watts filed the suit on behalf of Darden's sister Geraldine “Gerry” Darden and as a representative of Darden's estate.

Family of woman killed in Eaton Fire sues SoCal Edison

“We are not litigious,” Gerry Darden said in a statement. “Our family thought long and hard about the decision to file a lawsuit. Edison started this fire, and Genasys never warned her that she was in danger. My sister was studiously following the evacuation orders the night of the Eaton Fire. The truth is that if these companies had done what they were supposed to do, Stacey would be alive today.”

SCE spokesperson Gabriela Ornelas said, "We understand the tremendous impacts on the community and our hearts are with everyone who was affected by the Southern California wildfires. We are reviewing the lawsuit that has been filed and will respond through the legal process."

During the evening of Jan. 7 and into the early morning hours of the next day, Stacey and Gerry Darden consistently checked news reports for Eaton Fire evacuation zones to confirm that it

was safe for Stacey to remain in her home, the lawsuit contends. Darden's home was "not included in an Evacuation Zone / 'Polygon.'"

While residents east of Lake Avenue received an evacuation advisory, evacuation warning and two evacuation orders, people in west Altadena, including Stacey Darden, were led to believe evacuation was not necessary, according to court papers.

Stacey Darden’s last cell phone activity is believed to have been around 3:30 a.m. Jan. 8, attorneys reported. The single communication regarding an evacuation for the area relevant to Darden's house was a mandatory order issued more than two hours later at 5:43 a.m.

Eighteen of the 19 Altadena residents who died in the blaze lived west of Lake Avenue.

“Stacey did everything our community asks of a responsible neighbor in a wildfire, she stayed informed, followed the

rules, and trusted that if she was in danger, she would be told to get out,”

Watts said in a statement. “Instead, Southern California Edison ignited this fire, and Genasys left Stacey and her neighbors west of Lake Avenue omitted from the designated alert zone. By the time an evacuation order was finally pushed to her phone, it was too late.”

Watts added, “This is not a tragedy of bad luck, this is a tragedy of corporate failures, and that is why we filed this lawsuit."

Genasys runs the emergency alert system in the Los Angeles area, nationwide and in 100 countries, according to the company.

Genasys representatives did not respond to a request for comment.

Stacey Darden was born on May 19, 1970, in Philadelphia, and her family moved to Southern California in 1978.

Darden participated in the Mentally Gifted Minors program at

Pomelo Elementary and also attended Elliott Jr. High School in Altadena and Pasadena High School, according to local advocacy organization LA Fire Justice. Her lifelong love of libraries was born, in part, by spending nearly all her free time at the Altadena Library, where she and her sister went to study and read.

Darden graduated from Bryn Mawr College with a political science degree and worked in library and information science, including at the Caltech Library.

She was an avid consumer of political news and current events, according to LA Fire Justice. She voraciously read the Los Angeles Times every day and regularly tuned into local radio outlets such as KPCC/LAist 98.3, KCRW, KJLH 102.3 and NPR. She was the sister of former O.J. Simpson prosecutor Christopher Darden.

“When I joined LA Fire Justice, I promised this community that we would hold wrongdoers accountable for the devastation caused by the Eaton Fire,” former state Assemblyman and LA Fire Justice CEO Chris Holden said in a statement. “We cannot bring back the lives that were lost, but we can fight to make sure this never happens again. Filing this lawsuit is an essential step toward justice, change and accountability.”

Pasadena-based LA Fire Justice is a coalition that includes consumer advocate Erin Brockovich, wildfire lawyers, fire causation experts, insurance specialists and community organizers.

The cause of the Eaton Fire remains under investigation, but independent probes, including one by LA Fire Justice, point to improperly electrified Edison transmission lines as the culprit.

FBI Director Kash Patel waived polygraph security screening for Dan Bongino, 2 other senior staff

FBIDirectorKash

Patel granted waivers to Deputy Director Dan Bongino and two other newly hired senior FBI staff members, exempting them from passing polygraph exams normally required to gain access to America’s most sensitive classified information, according to a former senior FBI official and several other government officials.

Bongino’s role as the FBI’s second-highest-ranking official means he is responsible for day-to-day operations of the agency, including green-lighting surveillance missions, coordinating with intelligence agency partners and managing the bureau’s 56 field offices across the country. The deputy director receives some of the country’s most closely held secrets, including the President’s Daily Brief, which also contains intelligence from the CIA and the National Security Agency.

People familiar with the matter say his ascent to that position without passing a standard FBI background check was unprecedented. ProPublica spoke with four people familiar with the polygraph issues, who spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of retaliation and because they were not authorized to publicly discuss the details of FBI background checks.

Bongino was selected for the role at the FBI although he, like Patel, had no prior experience at the bureau. Bongino had previously served in the Secret Service and worked as a New York City police officer. But he later gained millions of fans and followers in conservative circles for television and podcast appearances, having taken over Rush Limbaugh’s spot on numerous radio stations. Over the years, Bongino used those platforms to push conspiracy theories about the 2020 election and professed his allegiance to President Donald Trump while railing

against the agency he now helps lead.

He’s had a rocky tenure so far, marked by public fights with senior Cabinet officials and accusations that he leaked information to the press, which Bongino denied. In August, Trump appointed Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey as co-deputy director at the FBI, setting off speculation that the White House had lost faith in Bongino. But he remains in the job.

ProPublica could not determine whether Bongino sat for a polygraph exam or what its results were.

Though the existence of a polygraph waiver is an indication he may not have passed the test, it is possible Bongino received a preemptive exemption, a former senior FBI official with knowledge of the vetting program told ProPublica.

When ProPublica sought comment from the FBI, the agency denied that Bongino or the other senior staff members failed polygraph tests. “It is false that the individuals you referenced failed polygraphs,” wrote spokesperson Ben Williamson.

He added: “The FBI follows all laws and procedures on personnel security measures, and any implication otherwise is false. Furthermore, while the FBI does not comment on confidential security information, particularly in matters of personnel, this article is riddled with falsehoods — it misrepresents polygraph protocol, inaccurately portrays FBI security measures, and makes multiple false claims about FBI employees who have done nothing wrong.”

ProPublica asked the FBI to specify what it considered to be false. The agency did not reply.

A polygraph exam is not technically pass or fail, but a person is not cleared for approval if the examiner finds deception or is unable

to reach a conclusion about the veracity of the answers given. Officials said that a person may not have technically failed the exams; the results could be deemed inconclusive, which would not meet the FBI’s standards for hiring or security clearances.

The FBI spokesperson initially said the three officials are so-called Schedule C — a category reserved for political appointees. He said the status would mean they were “not required” to undergo polygraphs. But Daniel Meyer, a former executive director for the Inspector General of the Intelligence Community External Review Panel, told ProPublica that an FBI employee wouldn’t be excluded from taking a polygraph exam simply because they’re a Schedule C employee. Three other lawyers, who specialize in national security matters, said the same.

In fact, the FBI’s employment eligibility guidelines say all employees must obtain a “Top Secret” clearance in order to work at the agency following a background check. “The preliminary employment requirements include a polygraph examination,” the guidelines say.

'How did they survive?'

Former FBI officials said they could not recall a single instance in which a senior official like Bongino received a waiver and was then given a top secret clearance. One said they were only aware of one waiver being issued in a seven-year period under Director Christopher Wray, for an outside subject matter expert whose polygraph results were inconclusive.

Two other officials, Marshall Yates, the agency’s liaison with Congress, and Nicole Rucker, Patel’s personal assistant, did not clear their polygraph exam and were granted waivers by Patel that allowed them to get a high-level security clearance, said officials with

knowledge of the issue. Neither of their roles is as high-profile as Bongino’s, nor does either one have prior FBI experience.

Polygraph examiners ask a standard list of questions about drug use, criminal history, foreign contacts and

mishandling of classified information. After the exam, an analyst scrutinizes the results and decides whether or not they indicate deception or are inconclusive. Those whose answers are determined to be inconclusive are given another chance to take the test the following day.

(reckless) political rhetoric aiming to delegitimize our brave agents. Unconstitutional laws such as this one further endanger our brave men and women protecting our community. Our immigration enforcement will continue unabated and unhindered by unconstitutional state laws enacted by irresponsible politicians."

Bonta noted recent indications from the Federal Bureau of Investigation that unidentified immigration agents pose a problem for broader law enforcement.

“It’s problematic when Californians can’t tell the difference between a law

enforcement officer who is charged with protecting them and a criminal who is attempting to cause them harm," Bonta said in a statement. "The FBI itself has warned that the practice of ICE agents obscuring their identity has led to a rise in copycats committing crimes, threatening public safety and eroding trust in law enforcement."

The Justice Department has also sued to challenge allegedly unconstitutional policies in New York and New Jersey.

San Bernardino residents encouraged to tackle toppled trash cans problem

Strong gusts often knock over trash cans, scattering garbage across streets, yards, and gutters. Once spilled, trash can clog storm drains, attract pests, and create an eyesore that takes time and effort to clean up. The City of San Bernardino and Burrtec ask residents to follow several suggestions to help prevent the problem: (1) Bag and tie trash and/ or recyclables. (2) Only place enough trash in a container so that your bin will fully close. (3) Bag any excessive trash and recyclables that will not fit in your barrel and include it in the next scheduled pickup. (4) If possible, do not set your trash or recyclables out for collection on windy days. A partially full bin is lighter and more susceptible to tipping over. (6) If your bin blows away, report a missing container by visiting: Burrtec.com/ request-services/.

polygraphs, and most of us had taken multiple polygraphs,” said Bob Anderson, a former FBI executive who ran the counterintelligence division and retired in 2016. “If somebody would fail those polygraphs in my time, most likely they would be removed out of the classified environment until that could get cleared.”

This year, an employee within the FBI’s Security Division filed a formal complaint alleging the waivers violated agency policy. The Security Division conducts employee polygraph exams and evaluates their results. Its mission is to protect the FBI from leaks of classified information and infiltration by foreign spies. The employee filed the complaint with the division director, Robert Turner, a 22-year veteran of the bureau who previously held roles in counterterrorism and counterespionage.

A complaint about the waivers was also shared with the Department of Justice’s Office of the Inspector General, sources said.

According to her resume, Rucker, 40, has served as an assistant to Stephen Miller, the powerful architect of the administration’s immigration crackdown, since January 2020.

Rucker would have detailed insight into dayto-day FBI operations and those meeting within the director’s office. She also assists in planning Patel’s travel, a former FBI official familiar with her job responsibilities said.

The White House said Rucker is not sharing information on the FBI’s operations with Miller and referred further questions to the bureau and the Department of Justice.

Meanwhile Yates, 37, was previously the executive director of the Election Integrity Network, a group that worked to overturn the results of the 2020 election. Yates, as the top liaison between the bureau and Congress, has wide visibility into the workforce, including some access to internal files about past investigations.

Historically, the job was staffed by a nonpartisan career FBI or Department of Justice official with deep knowledge of the bureau. Among other tasks, the official organizes closed-door briefings with lawmakers to discuss active, undisclosed threats to the country.

While an FBI spokesperson discussed the polygraph issues with ProPublica, Patel, Bongino, Yates, Rucker and Turner did not respond to direct requests for comment.

Sen. Dick Durbin, the Democratic ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, raised the issue of senior FBI leadership not passing polygraphs — without identifying any individuals — when Patel testified before the committee in September.

“As I understand it from highly credible sources, key members of Director Patel’s senior executive team and others on the seventh floor had disqualifying alerts on their initial polygraph exams,” Durbin said. “How did they survive? They survived because of a personal waiver by either the director or the attorney general to remain employed by the bureau.”

When Durbin asked Patel if anyone on his senior executive team received “disqualifying alerts on their polygraphs,” Patel refused to answer. And when the senator followed up by asking if he or Attorney General Pam Bondi granted a waiver, Patel replied, “I have to get back to you.”

The FBI did not respond to the committee on questions concerning polygraphs, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Durbin, in a statement to ProPublica, said, “Reports of disqualifying alerts on polygraphs by senior FBI officials — which require personal waivers from the highest levels of leadership to remain employed — are deeply alarming.”

physiological responses like heart rate, blood pressure and perspiration as the person answers yes-orno questions. Though the device’s efficacy is debated, it is routinely used in America’s law enforcement and intelligence agencies to screen potential employees and conduct leak investigations. The FBI first began requiring the polygraph exam for all applicants in 1994, according to a 2006 report by the Department of Justice’s Office of the Inspector General.

They are used as part of a broader background check conducted on all potential FBI employees to determine if the applicant triggers any national security or suitability concerns. Suitability refers to a candidate’s criminal history, drug use or other issues that would prevent them from becoming employees of a federal law enforcement agency.

FBI security measures are designed to protect sensitive intelligence sources and information, and the screening is intended to ensure that officials given access to this information have cleared a thorough vetting process.

Staff who work in the director’s office on the seventh floor of the J. Edgar Hoover Building in Washington must also obtain an additional clearance called SCI, or sensitive compartmented information.

SCI contains some of America’s most sensitive intelligence secrets, and employees with that clearance are “read-in” to various compartments or programs. Bongino, Yates and Rucker all obtained SCI clearances after being granted the waivers, people familiar with their clearance level said.

In addition to bringing on loyalists, the administration has launched a purge of career FBI staff since January. More than 50 bureau officials have been fired or pushed out, a ProPublica analysis found. They include executives with decades of counterterrorism and intelligence

experience, as well as line agents assigned to work on politically sensitive criminal probes, including investigations into Jan. 6 rioters and Trump.

Patel has justified these firings under Article II of the Constitution, which outlines the president’s powers over government — a novel use of the statute that is being challenged in the courts. Publicly, the administration has suggested some fired agents were involved in misconduct while investigating Trump or his allies.

Former acting FBI Director Brian Driscoll sued Patel, Bondi and the bureau in September, saying he was subjected to political loyalty tests and illegally fired. The FBI declined to comment when the suit was filed and federal agencies have yet to respond in court.

The FBI has recently used the polygraph to ask senior employees if they have said anything negative about Patel or had spoken to the media, multiple former FBI employees said. The New York Times earlier reported the use of polygraphs to investigate negative comments about Patel.

Destined for something greater

A lawyer by training, Yates has been the point person in responding to inquiries from Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley, a Republican who for months has been publishing internal FBI documents, which he contends show improper past investigations into Trump. Accord-

ing to a former senior FBI official, Yates called regional bureau field offices early this year to get lists of employees involved in cases against Trump; several of those agents were later fired by Patel.

Originally from Alabama, Yates previously worked as chief of staff for former Rep. Mo Brooks, R-Ala., and was counsel to Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky. A Democratic representative accused Brooks of inciting rioters on Jan. 6, which Brooks denied; the civil case was later dismissed. Brooks has described the FBI as “partisan hacks.” Massie wrote on social media this month, “Capitol Police turned CIA orchestrated the pipe bombs on January 6th, and the FBI has covered it up.”

Little is known about Nicole Rucker, who spells her name online as Nikole. Multiple sources have described Rucker as Patel’s personal assistant. She joined Patel on a recent foreign trip to London, where she sat in on a sensitive meeting with a Western intelligence ally, according to a knowledgeable source.

Rucker arrived at the FBI on Jan. 20 and began working in the director’s suite without a security clearance, according to a former FBI employee familiar with her work.

Due to her initial lack of clearance, Rucker was escorted from the FBI lobby to the secure director’s suite by Turner, who was then the deputy of the FBI’s Security Division.

Rucker eventually obtained a security clearance and was no longer escorted, the person said.

Williamson, the FBI spokesperson, said “people are escorted in similar circumstances all the time.”

In May, Rucker’s husband posted a photo on LinkedIn with himself and Rucker alongside Patel, standing in front of the FBI logo.

On her resume, she also lists a job working as the executive assistant to the chief of public affairs at the National Museum of African American History and Culture from 2018 to 2019. After that, she was a congressional relations liaison at Ultra Electronics, a British defense contractor.

Rucker founded Cobblestone Concierge, which offers personal assistant services such as “home management, organization, errand service and so much more!” according to her LinkedIn profile. The company’s website says its services include “household management (including meeting the cable guy).”

ProPublica interviewed her ex-husband, Joseph Churchville, who said Rucker worked at a title insurance company while they were married but had always thought she was destined for something greater. “She’s tenacious. When she acquires something that she wants, she has the ability to make things happen,” Churchville said.

Monrovia Old Town report: Old Town is wonder-fall!

UPDATE:The Thankful & Grateful ceremony, scheduled for Friday, has been cancelled due to the inclement weather. The holiday trees will still be lit that evening, just without the pomp and circumstance.

I’m sad to miss seeing Santa on his sleigh and was looking forward to the photo op. I was hoping to see Mrs. Claus this year as well, but she’s got the night off too.

With that being said, we do not need a ceremony to be thankful and grateful. Being thankful is an act of expressing appreciation for something you have received, while gratitude is deeper.

Gratitude is recognizing and appreciating the good in life, no matter how small they are or how tough times may be. We all have something to

be thankful and grateful for: the beautifully decorated park, the wonderful community we are so lucky to live and work in, and cooler fall weather. Some of us can be thankful for family, while others are thankful and grateful for their health or the abundance of beauty that surrounds them.

Gratitude has been called the mother of all virtues. It can help you find the positive in life. It reminds us of what is important. Gratitude reduces depression and lessens anxiety, while improving sleep, reducing stress and supporting heart health. It feels good while being good for you and the people around you! It is also contagious, so go spread thankfulness and gratitude everywhere you can.

Our Old Town community is a destination spot for many. We have a thriving business community that is continuously growing and diversifying. National Small Business Saturday is Nov. 29. The Chamber of Commerce has a really fun passport event, where shoppers can earn points that will go toward raffle entries for great prizes. It’s a fun way to support local businesses. Remember to shop small and shop locally. Support the businesses that are ALWAYS supporting your school fundraisers and silent auctions.

And then it will be December. Coming soon to Old Town is our next chance for a Santa sighting. He is famous for closing out our Holiday Parade. The parade

Billionaire Tom Steyer enters California governor's race

Activist and investor

TomSteyer announced Wednesday that he is joining the race to replace California Gov. Gavin Newsom, whose tenure in Sacramento is ending due to term limits.

In a YouTube video announcing his candidacy, Steyer, who founded the investment firm Farallon Capital in 1986 after spending time working at Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs in the late 1970s and early 1980s, said Californians deserve a life they can afford.

Steyer, 68, began an effort to impeach President Donald Trump in October 2017 with a multimilliondollar television and digital advertising campaign. He has also argued the need for a "real" billionaire to take on

Trump.

"We need to get back to basics and that means making corporations pay their fair share again," Steyer says in the video announcing his candidacy. "Californians deserve a top-ten education state; they deserve to be able to afford to live in a decent house."

He entered the 2020 presidential race on the Democrat ticket, but dropped out following the South Carolina primary after failing to gain electoral momentum.

In 2012, he chose to leave Farallon Capital to focus on activism and fundraising efforts related to climate change and alternative energy sources.

After supporting and fundraising for former Pres-

ident Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012, Steyer founded NextGen America in 2013, a political action committee focused on climate change and environmentalism.

NextGen America has also fundraised and contributed to Democratic campaigns and politicians around the nation, awarded grants to national organizations offering immigration law services and registered young people to vote around the nation.

Steyer, who is reported by Forbes to be worth about $2 billion, said he would launch "the largest drive to build homes that you can afford in the history of California."

He also proposes "breaking up the monopolistic power of the utili -

Taiwan’s exclusion from major international organizations severely undermines global prosperity

This November, countriesaroundthe world participate in the UNFCCC and INTERPOL and convene to shape a new era of climate action and global law enforcement cooperation, respectively. However, Taiwan is unjustly excluded from the UNFCCC and INTERPOL, limiting the effectiveness of international joint action, especially at a time when climate change is rapidly reshaping the global economic structure and globalization has accelerated the transnational development of crime.

Taiwan is not immune from or to these critical challenges. Regardless of its decades-long exclusions, Taiwan is dedicated to aligning with the world by all means necessary to confront climate change and to effectively combat cross-border illegal activity.

Taiwan has increased its resilience and preparedness in response to global threats, such as setting out a policy vision for green growth and a 2050 net-zero transition, and ranking fourth-safest country in the world according to Numbeo's 2025 Safety

Index, serving as a testament to its strong capabilities.

Taiwan’s inclusion in major international organizations is a necessary step to a safer and more prosperous world. Taiwan is a responsible member of the international community and is ready to play its rightful role in the world. We call on the international community to advocate for Taiwan’s equitable and just participation in the UNFCCC and INTERPOL to build a seamless and inclusive world moving forward.

Record number of SoCal residents expected to travel for Thanksgiving

Roughly 6.78 million SouthernCalifornia residents are expected to travel for the upcoming Thanksgivingholiday,a record- setting figure for the holiday that is about 7% higher than the pre-pandemic level in 2019.

The projected number of travelers is a 2.8% increase from last year, according to figures released by the Auto Club of Southern California.

The vast majority of travelers -- 5.88 million -- are expected to travel by car, while 704,000 will fly and 196,000 will take other forms of travel such as train, bus or cruise ship.

Nationally, 81.8 million

people are expected to travel 50 miles or more for the holiday, also a record number that tops last year's figure by 1.6 million, according to the Auto Club.

The Auto Club defines the Thanksgiving travel period as Tuesday, Nov. 25, through Monday, Dec. 1.

"Thanksgiving travel has always been popular, but has grown into an even greater priority in recent years after the pandemic limited those opportunities to connect with family and friends,"

Auto Club spokesman Doug Shupe said in a statement.

"Southern Californians go the distance to spend time with family and friends. This

Singer D4vd has been officiallynameda suspect in the death of a 15-year-old girl whose decomposing body was found in the trunk of a car registered to him that was taken to a Hollywood tow yard, it was reported Tuesday.

NBC4, citing an unnamed source with knowledge of the investigation, reported that the singer has not been cooperative with investigators looking into the death of Celeste Rivas Hernandez, whose body was found in the front trunk of the singer's Tesla. According to the station, police believe the girl likely died in the spring and the singer — whose real name is David Anthony Burke — had help dismembering and disposing of the body.

The Los Angeles Police Department told City News Service the agency could not confirm the report.

The county medical examiner has not yet released a cause of the teen's death.

Celeste, of Lake Elsinore,

holiday is one of the busiest -- and most meaningful -times to travel each year."

The Auto Club noted that Southern California travelers will be paying some of the highest gas prices of the year, with a gallon of gas averaging about $4.66. Top travel destinations include San Diego, Las Vegas, Disneyland and the Bay Area.

According to the transportation analytics firm INRIX, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons before Thanksgiving are expected to be the most congested times on area roadways, while Sunday after Thanksgiving will see the heaviest return traffic.

Report: Singer D4vd officially named suspect in teen's death

had been reported missing by her mother last year, when the girl was just 13. The mother has told reporters that her daughter had a boyfriend named David.

D4vd has a tattoo on one of his fingers matching the one reading "Shhh" that the Los Angeles County medical examiner revealed was on Rivas' index finger.

The teen's brother told NBC4 earlier this year that Celeste was last seen going to a movie with D4vd, but she never returned.

The Tesla in which her body was found had been abandoned near a home in the 1300 block of Doheny Place, not far from a home D4vd — pronounced "David" — had rented. Police served a search warrant at the house and took several items as possible evidence.

"The vehicle had been parked at the location from which it was towed for several weeks, so Ms. Rivas Hernandez may have been deceased for several weeks before the discovery of her body," police said in a state-

ment in September.

No arrests have been made in connection with the teen's death. A representative for D4vd said previously the singer was cooperating with investigators.

"The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has not yet determined the cause or manner of Ms. Rivas Hernandez's death," police said in September. "As such, it remains unclear whether there is any criminal culpability beyond the concealment of her body. (RobberyHomicide Division) is thoroughly examining every aspect of this case to uncover the truth and seek justice for Celeste Rivas Hernandez and her family.

"We appreciate the public's patience and understanding as we continue this investigation. Further updates will be provided as appropriate, but at this time, we are unable to answer additional questions."

The Los Angeles Times reported earlier that the 2023 Tesla had been parked on Bluebird Avenue in

Hollywood Hills for so long that some residents complained about it in late August, leading the car to be ticketed. A parking enforcement officer marked the Tesla on Aug. 27, noting the position of its tires, accord-

ing to the Times. The officer issued a citation on Sept. 3 to the Tesla for violating the 72-hour parking ordinance. D4vd was on the last leg of a U.S. tour when Rivas' body was discovered. Several shows were canceled, includ-

ing one that had been scheduled at Los Angeles' Greek Theatre.

According to various reports, his label Interscope Records has halted all promotion of "Withered," D4vd's latest recording.

LeBron James scores 11, has game-high 12 assists in 2025-26 debut

LeBron James scored 11 points and had a game-high 12 assists in his 2025-26 season debut Tuesday evening as the Lakers defeated the Utah Jazz, 140-126, at Crypto.com Arena.

James had missed the Lakers' first 14 games because of sciatica, which affects the lower back and down the side of the body.

The Lakers trailed 36-27 at the end of the first quarter and 71-67 at halftime. They outscored Utah, 21-5, to conclude the third quarter, taking a 104-93 lead, with Luka Doncic scoring 12 of his game-high 37 points.

The Lakers led by at least five and as many as 23 in the fourth quarter in front of a

crowd announced at 18,997, the arena's capacity.

Doncic and James were among the five Lakers to score in double figures.

Austin Reeves added 26, Deandre Ayton 20 and a game-high 14 rebounds and Jake LaRavia added 16 off the bench.

Keyonte George scored 34 and Lauri Markkanen 31 to lead five players in double figures for the Jazz (5-9).

The Lakers made 50 of 84 shots, 59.5%, including 11 of 32 3-point shots, 34.4%.

Utah made 48 of 92 shots, 52.2%, including 13 of 45 3-point shots, 28.9%.

The Lakers made 29 of 40 free throws, 72.5%, with Reaves making 11 of 12 and Doncic 13 of 16.

The Lakers were 10-4 during James' absence, their same record they had in their first 14 games last season.

The Lakers' 17-player roster includes nine players who were with the team through 14 games last season. The biggest change since then was the Feb. 2 acquisition of Doncic from Dallas Mavericks in a threeteam trade where center

First look at 2028 Paralympic schedule released

The first look at the schedule for the 2028 ParalympicGames was released Wednesday by the LA28 organizing committee, 1,000 days before the Aug. 15, 2028 opening ceremony at SoFi Stadium.

The closing ceremony will be held Aug. 27 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. In between, there will be 294 sessions and 560 medal events in 23 sports.

The schedule was developed in "close collaboration" with each sport's international federation and Olympic Broadcasting Services with "the support" of the International Paralympic Committee, according to LA 28.

The first medal events will be held on Aug. 16 in track and field, wheelchair fencing, shooting, equestrian and cycling.

Like in the Olympics, competition will begin before the opening ceremony, with rugby games on Aug. 13 and boccia games on Aug. 14.

Boccia is one of two sports on the Paralympic program that does not have an equivalent on the Olympic program. It is similar to curling with players throwing or rolling leather balls as close as they can to a small ball called a jack.

Climbing will make its Paralympic debut Aug. 24.

The last day of the games will have finals in blind soccer, track and field, badminton, climbing, powerlifting, sitting volleyball and wheelchair basketball. A more detailed schedule will be released in 2026.

Downloadable PDFs of the Paralympic competition schedule by day and by session are available at LA28.org.

All events and sessions are subject to change leading up to the 2028 Games and until the end of the international competition, LA28 officials noted.

The Paralympics are held every four years. They

were first held in Rome in 1960. This will be the first time they have been held in Los Angeles under the rule that went into effect in 1988 requiring the Games to be held in the same city and venues as the Olympic Games.

When the Olympics were last held in Los Angeles in 1984, the Paralympics were split between Nassau County in New York, where events for wheelchair and ambulatory athletes with cerebral palsy, amputees or athletes who blind or visually impaired athletes and Stoke Mandeville, England, where events for wheelchair athletes with spinal cord injuries were held.

The other Paralympic sport with no Olympic equivalent is goalball, which is played exclusively by athletes who are blind or vision impaired. It was invented in 1946 to help rehabilitate veterans who lost their sight during World War II.

team has three players, wearing eyeshades to ensure fairness, playing on an indoor court the same size as a volleyball court.

During that period, public agencies and members of the community submitted comments regarding the project’s environmental effects.

The Final EIR is now available and includes: the City’s written responses to all public comments received on the Draft EIR; clarifications and minor revisions to the Draft EIR text, including updated technical documentation; and an updated Section 4.15 (Utilities and Service Systems) incorporating the findings of the Water and Sewer Capacity Study, as reviewed and approved by the City Engineer.

The EIR analyzes potential environmental impacts related to air quality, noise, traffic, cultural and tribal cultural resources, geology and soils, hazards and hazardous materials, public services, water, and sewer infrastructure. With implementation of mitigation measures and existing regulatory requirements, all potential environmental impacts would be reduced to less-than-significant levels. Together, the Draft EIR and Final EIR comprise the full Environmental Impact Report for the project and will be used by the City of Monrovia during the upcoming public hearing and decision-making process.

The complete Draft and Final EIR are available for review in the following locations below. Printed copies are also available for review at Monrovia City Hall (415 South Ivy Avenue) during regular business hours, and at the Monrovia Public Library’s Reference Desk (321 South Myrtle Avenue).

PROJECT LOCATION: 701 South Myrtle Avenue (Assessor’s Parcel Numbers [APNs] 8516-033-030 and 8516-033031)

APPLICANT: BGP Myrtle, LLC (Scott Griggs, Applicant) 550 Hartz Avenue, Suite 200 Danville, CA 94526 City of Monrovia Department of Community Development Planning Division planning@monroviaca.gov (626) 932-5565

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The City of Monrovia is proposing amendments to its planning documents to allow the redevelopment of a 1.61-acre site located at 701 South Myrtle Avenue. The property is currently zoned Office, Research and Development, and Light Manufacturing (O/RD/LM). The site is also located within the Old Town Extension District overlay, which was established to guide the long-term transformation of this portion of South Myrtle Avenue from light industrial uses into a pedestrian-oriented corridor that extends the activity and character of Old Town Monrovia south toward the Station Square Transit District. To implement that vision and allow mixed-use development on the site, the City proposes to amend the Monrovia General Plan and Zoning Code, and to adopt a Specific Plan (SP2025-0002) for the project site. Specifically, the General Plan Amendment (GPA2025-0002) would include both a text and map amendment to the Land Use Element to create Planned Development Area-29 (PD-29) and change the site’s land use designation from O/RD/LM to Planned Development (PD-29). PD-29 establishes the policy foundation and development framework for a mixed-use site that allows higher-density housing, ground-floor commercial uses, and pedestrian-focused design along the South Myrtle Corridor. The Zoning Code and Zoning Map Amendment (ZA2025-0001) would update the City’s Zoning Ordinance and Zoning Map to reference the new Specific Plan and change the site’s zoning classification from O/RD/LM to “Specific Plan” (“701 South Myrtle Avenue Specific Plan”). This ensures the City’s Zoning Code, Map, and General Plan are all consistent and aligned to facilitate the project. The 701 South Myrtle Avenue Specific Plan serves as the zoning document that implements PD-29. It provides detailed land use regulations, design guidelines, height and density standards, parking, landscaping, and other development parameters to ensure that the project is designed in a manner consistent with the General Plan’s vision for this site. Additionally, the project includes an application for a Conditional Use Permit (CUP2025-0010) to allow the construction of a building larger than 10,000 square feet. The project also includes an application for a Vesting Tentative Parcel Map (TPM2025-0002 / Tentative Parcel Map No. 085041) to consolidate two parcels into a single legal lot.

Development Project Proposed: BGP Myrtle, LLC is proposing to implement the 701 South Myrtle Avenue Specific Plan with the construction of a five-story mixed-use building containing 204 residential units, including 20 affordable units (17 low-income and 3 moderate-income). The project also includes approximately 2,370 square feet of ground-floor commercial space, a fitness center, and 1.5 levels of subterranean parking providing 329 total spaces. The building’s design features step-backs along South Myrtle and West Olive Avenues to reduce height and maintain compatibility with nearby structures and the Old Town district to the north. Materials such as brick, stucco, and metal accents reflect Monrovia’s architectural character. The project includes a public plaza at the corner of South Myrtle and West Olive Avenues, two landscaped resident courtyards, a rooftop terrace, and a dog park along the eastern edge of the site. All existing structures on the property would be removed, and the two existing parcels (APNs 8516-033030 and 8516-033-031) would be consolidated into a single legal lot through a Vesting Tentative Parcel Map No. 085041.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The staff report and related materials pertaining to this item will be available for public review beginning Wednesday, November 26, 2025, after 4:00 p.m., on the City’s website at: https://www.monroviaca.gov/your-government/ city-council/agendas-minutes

At this hearing, the City Council will consider certification of the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) and take action on the following components: the General Plan Amendment (GPA2025-0002) to establish Planned Development Area-29 (PD-29); the 701 South Myrtle Avenue Specific Plan (SP2025-0002); the Zoning Map and Text Amendment (ZA2025-0001) to change the zoning classification to Specific Plan; the Vesting Tentative Parcel Map No. 085041 to consolidate two parcels into one; and the Conditional Use Permit (CUP2025-0010) for construction of a five-story mixed-use building and related uses.

The project site is not listed on any list of hazardous waste sites prepared pursuant to Government Code Section 65962.5.

PUBLIC COMMENTS ACCEPTED: Public comments regarding this item may be stated in person at the meeting, or submitted in writing. Public input will be accepted by email to cityclerk@monroviaca.gov. Comments received by 5:00 p.m. on December 2 will be forwarded to the City Council before the meeting.

American Cinematheque to operate renovated Westwood Village Theater

One of Los Angeles' most storied movie palaces is getting new life, with a group of roughly 30 filmmakers announcing the Westwood Village Theater will be operated and programmed by the American Cinematheque, with the renovated showplace set to reopen in 2027.

"Last year, some of the greatest living directors rallied to save the most beautiful movie theater in Los Angeles, the Village Theater in Westwood," said director Jason Reitman, who spearheaded the purchase of the theater last year on behalf of a coalition known as the Village Directors Circle. "The Village is a storied movie palace, and a cathedral to cinema. And with the American Cinematheque, it will have its congregation."

Cinematheque has entered into a new partnership with the Village Directors Circle, led by filmmaker Jason Reitman," according to an American Cinematheque statement. "As part of this agreement, the AC will operate and program the VDC's recent acquisition, the iconic Westwood Village Theater."

The VDC includes top Hollywood directors such as J.J. Abrams, Steven Spielberg, Christopher Nolan, Alexander Payne, Jay Roach, Emma Thomas, Karyn Kusama, Hannah Fidell, Emma Seligman, Damien Chazelle, Judd Apatow, Alejandro González Iñárritu, Rian Johnson, Lulu Wang, Chloé Zhao and Denis Villeneuve.

American Cinematheque is a nonprofit film preservation and support organization that operates the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica and helps to program the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood and the Los Feliz 3 theater.

"We are thrilled to announce that the American

Reitman said the Cinematheque "shares the directors' vision for showcasing new work, rediscovering classics, and building filmmakercurated programs. The Village Theater has also been the home for show-stopping Hollywood premieres since 1930, and we're committed to carrying that tradition forward. We want to give audiences a place to experience the films they love with the people they love."

The 1,000-seat theater will undergo a thorough restoration and remodeling, with the lobby serving not only as the location of concession stands, but also an exhibit space for artifacts

from the VDC directors' personal collections. It will also include retail kiosks and an event space for film premieres.

According to VDC and AC, the theater will present film screenings accompanied by in-person discussions, along with new theatrical releases, tributes, retrospectives and AC film festivals such as Beyond Fest, Bleak Week, This Is Not a Fiction and Ultra Cinematheque 70.

"Partnering with the brilliant and virtuoso Village Directors Circle to renovate the Village Theater is an exciting milestone for the American Cinematheque," AC Chairman Rick Nicita said in a statement. "We are thrilled to bring our expertise in film programming to Westwood, breathing new life into this iconic venue. Our goal is to create a vibrant cultural hub that not only celebrates cinema but also enriches the community and welcomes audiences from all over Los Angeles and the world."

Homeless services org hosts turkey drive in Pasadena

Rising food costs and recentuncertainty surrounding food assistance benefits has prompted a Pasadena nonprofit to increase the goal for its annual turkey donation drive this week.

Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Union Station Homeless Services is accepting turkeys and financial donations ahead of this year's Dinner in the Park event that serves Thanksgiving meals to thousands of area residents experiencing homelessness and food insecurity. Turkey donations are collected at the USHS Adult Center, 412 S. Raymond Ave. in Pasadena.

"For over 50 years, Dinner in the Park hosted by Union Station Homeless Services has been a staple in Pasadena — a place where anyone hungry can enjoy a warm Thanksgiving meal and a moment of community," according to a statement from the organization.

Disney 'imagineers' post-fire park in Altadena

The Walt Disney Co. announced Monday a $5 million investment to revamp and reopen Charles White Park in Altadena that was heavily damaged in the Eaton Fire.

The company's "Imagineers" are designing a playground and other elements "infused with Disney magic" as part of a $15 million commitment the company has made for efforts to help the community recover from the devastating January blaze.

"Los Angeles has been home to The Walt Disney Company since its founding more than a century ago, which is why we felt a special responsibility to help this community rebuild in the aftermath of the devastating wildfires earlier this year," Disney CEO Bob Iger said in a statement. "I'm incredibly

proud of our Imagineers who are volunteering their time and talents to help reimagine cherished public spaces like Charles White Park. Their work is not only a testament to Disney's creative spirit, but also to our deep commitment to our neighbors throughout this region. We hope this

Notice of Public Hearing City Council

Notice of Public Hearing on a Zoning Code Amendment to Implement Objective Design Standards for High Density Residential Development

Subject: The Planning and Community Development Department is bringing forward a Zoning Code Amendment to amend Title 17 (the Zoning Code) of the Pasadena Municipal Code to adopt objective design standards, related to building features such as bulk and mass, articulation, fenestration and materials, applicable to residential and mixed-use projects, with a density greater than 48 dwelling units per acre.

Environmental Determination: The City Council will consider whether the proposed Zoning Code Amendment is exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), pursuant to State CEQA Guidelines Section 15061(b)(3) (Common Sense Exemption), that CEQA only applies to projects which have the potential for causing a significant effect on the environment. The proposed Amendment would implement new objective design standards related to bulk and mass, articulation, fenestration and materials, applicable to residential and mixed-use projects with a density greater than 48 dwelling units per acre. The Amendment would not increase development levels or intensity or add new uses that would generate impacts. Since it can be seen with certainty that there is no possibility that the proposed objective design standards will have a significant effect on the environment and there are no features that distinguish this project from others in the exempt class, the Zoning Code Amendments are not subject to CEQA.

Planning Commission Recommendation: On October 8, 2025, the Planning Commission considered the proposed Zoning Code Amendment at a publicly noticed hearing and recommended that the City Council approve the Zoning Code Amendment as presented by staff, with the following amendments: 1) Refine the terms “Simple Form” and “Articulated Form” to describe proposed standards; 2) include a range of permitted colors; 3) Require balconies on streetfacing facades to project no more than two feet from a façade, have opaque railings, and high quality materials; and 4) allow for an alternate design review process for sites above two acres in size.

Glendale City Notices

CITY OF GLENDALE – NOTICE OF

to the development of affordable housing at 426 Piedmont Avenue, with a preference for seniors facing or at risk of homelessness.

Because that project required less funding than anticipated, the City proposes to reallocate $2,100,000 of HOME-ARP funds to support the rehabilitation and expansion of a transi-tional housing facility in Glendale. The project will create 19 permanent supportive units for women and families affected by domestic violence.

Additionally, HUD identified an administrative error in the City’s original HOME-ARP award. As a result, Glendale’s total allocation has been increased from $5,109,346 to $5,116,976. Consistent with HUD rules, up to 15% of this correction is allocated to Administration & Planning, with the balance added to the domestic violence housing activity. This amend¬ment reflects both the new project activity and the corrected total award.

This amendment qualifies as a substantial amendment under HUD regulations because it adds a new activity and updates the total award amount. The senior preference established for the Piedmont project does not apply to this new activity.

The draft amendment is available for public review at:

- Online: www.glendaleca.gov/affordablehousing

- In person: Community Development Department – Housing Division, 141 N. Glendale Avenue, Suite 202, Glendale, CA 91206

Public Comment Period: November 17, 2025 – December 1, 2025

Written comments may be submitted by email to abrownell@glendaleca.gov or by mail to the address above. All comments received by December 1, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. will be consid¬ered before the amendment is submitted to HUD.

Public Hearing: The Glendale City Council and Housing Authority will hold a joint public

hearing on December 2, 2025 at 3:00 PM at 613 E. Broadway, 2nd floor, Glendale, CA 91206 to consider adoption of the substantial amendment.

“ RadicalHistories:

Chicano Prints from the Smithsonian American Art Museum,” makes its West Coast debut at The Huntington’s Marylou and George Boone Gallery from Nov. 16 to March 2. Co-curated by Dennis Carr, Virginia Steele Scott chief curator of American art, and Angélica Becerra, Bradford and Christine Mishler associate curator of American art, the exhibition features 60 dynamic works by nearly 40 artists and collectives that trace more than six decades of Chicano printing as a form of resistance, community building and cultural reclamation.

Commencing with the late 1960s Delano Grape Strike, the precursor to the United Farm Workers labor union, the prints in “Radical Histories” depict momentous events in the history of community activism and the formation of collective identity. Chicano artists used silkscreens, posters and offset prints to mobilize communities — often with barbed wit, lively colors and evident urgency.

The exhibition is arranged in five thematic sections.

Section 1: "Together We Fight"

The opening section explores how the UFW, cofounded by César Chávez and Dolores Huerta, collaborated with visual and performance artists to support the fight for farmworkers’ rights. Key labor actions inspired a wave of Chicano art that functioned as both political expression and tangible solidarity. Artists adopted the UFW’s iconic black eagle, embedding it in posters, prints and murals that raised awareness and helped fund the movement.

Section 2: "¡Guerra No! (No War!)"

Since the 1960s, Chicano graphic art has played a vital role in advancing antiwar resistance. These works serve as rallying cries, counternarratives to main -

stream media and spaces of reflection. Chicano artists have used print and poster art to critically examine U.S. military interventions in Vietnam, El Salvador, Chile, Iraq and elsewhere.

Section 3: "Violent Divisions"

The U.S.-Mexico border has been a central theme in Chicano art. Printmaking has enabled Chicano artists to raise awareness about the experiences of immigrant communities because it is affordable and prints are easily distributed.

Section 4: "Rethinking América"

This section presents works that broaden historical narratives by including perspectives rooted in resistance and cultural reclamation. The artists drew inspiration from revolutionary figures and movements to create narratives that center Mexican American and Indigenous perspectives.

Section 5: "Changemakers"

Portraiture is a cornerstone of Chicano art, used to educate audiences and celebrate both cultural icons and overlooked figures. Artists often base their portraits on documentary photographs, transforming black-and-white images into vivid prints that honor the subject’s life and legacy.

By email, Carr and Becerra discuss the exhibition’s origins, its relevance and viewer takeaways.

“Radical Histories was organized by the Smithsonian American Art Museum to highlight the central role Chicano artists have played in shaping American visual culture,” Carr begins. “The exhibition began touring nationally in 2022 following its debut at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and The Huntington is presenting its first West Coast exhibition.

“While the core exhibi-

tion is drawn from SAAM’s collection, our presentation places particular emphasis on Los Angeles as a vital center of Chicano printmaking,” Carr clarifies. “To honor that history, The Huntington commissioned a new mural by Los Angeles–based artist Melissa Govea, created in collaboration with Self Help Graphics & Art, a community print studio that has supported Chicanx and Latinx artists since 1973.

“Through this partnership, we commissioned Melissa Govea,” explains Carr. “Govea began her career as a muralist and is known for work that honors community, ancestry and cultural memory. Rather than giving her a specific direction, we invited her to respond to the themes of the exhibition. The result is a dedicated gallery featuring a new mural, a sculptural installation and printbased works that together reflect multiple dimensions of her practice. This marks the first time her work has been presented in a museum context.

“Her mural, titled ‘Sangre Indígena’ (Indigenous Blood), draws on portraits of friends, collaborators and cultural leaders who have shaped her life. The work recognizes the generations of artists, organizers and knowledgekeepers who came before her, while affirming the presence, agency and creativity of those shaping Los Angeles today.”

It would be an oversimplification to say how many works in the exhibition are from LA artists, as Becerra explains.

“Many artists in ‘Radical Histories’ have deep ties to Los Angeles, whether they lived, studied, printed, organized or collaborated here. The most meaningful connection is through Self Help Graphics & Art, which offered open studio access,

mentorship and a collaborative printmaking environment to generations of Chicano and Latinx artists.

On whether the exhibition has taken greater meaning now with ICE raids targeting Hispanic communities and looking Hispanic or Latino is enough to get one handcuffed and thrown into a detention camp, Becerra says, “The themes in ‘Radical Histories’ are both longstanding and timely. Chicano printmakers have historically used posters and prints to address labor injustice, state violence, displacement and the struggle for belonging — issues that continue to

resonate today.”

Becerra adds further, “What museums like The Huntington can offer is space: a place to look closely, process, reflect and connect personal experience to shared history. These works remind us that art has always been a tool of community care and resistance.”

As for the viewer takeaway, Carr states, “We hope visitors come away with a deeper understanding of how Chicano artists have used printmaking to organize, to tell stories, to build community and to assert cultural identity. And we hope they see that art is

not separate from daily life — it is a tool for resilience and collective meaningmaking.”

“In addition to the exhibition itself, The Huntington will host public programs, bilingual gallery talks and hands-on workshops in collaboration with local artists and partners,” adds Carr. “A major highlight will be Historias Radicales: Latinx Identity and History in Southern California, a two-day conference on December 5-6, connecting the exhibition to The Huntington’s collections in graphic arts, California history and archival research.”

LA Fire Justice press conference

LA Fire Justice held a press conference on Mondayconcerning Eaton Fire victim Stacey Elizabeth Darden who died Jan. 8 in her Altadena home. Attorneys for Darden’s family filed a wrongful death lawsuit Monday against Southern California Edison.

The suit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court alleges the utility’s transmission lines ignited the devastating wildfire in January that caused the deaths of 19 people, scorched over 14,000 acres and impacted over 10,000 structures. The lawsuit names Genasys Inc., Southern California Edison Co. and Edison International as defendants. Read more on this story at HeySoCal.com.

LA County sheriff investigating new assault allegation against Sean ‘Diddy' Combs

The Los Angeles County Sheriff'sDepartment confirmed Tuesday it is investigating a sexual assault allegation against imprisoned music mogul Sean "Diddy Combs.

According to the department, it received a report from the Largo, Florida, police department on Friday, and the agency's Special Victims Bureau was investigating the allegations, which were initiated by a music producer who anonymously sued Combs in Los Angeles in July but went public last month as the plaintiff in the case.

The lawsuit by Jonathan Hay accuses Combs of sexual misconduct during a pair of encounters in the Los Angeles area in the early 2020s

Combs' civil attorney, Jonathan Davis, issued a statement in response to Hay's allegations, saying, "As Mr. Combs' legal team has repeatedly stated for over a year now, he cannot address every meritless allegation in what has become a media circus. Let me make it absolutely clear, Mr. Combs categorically denies as false and defamatory all claims that he sexually abused anyone. He looks forward to vindicating himself in court, where such matters are decided -- and not in the media -- based on admissible, material evidence, not rank speculation and unsubstantiated allegations."

Combs was convicted in New York in July of two counts of transportation to

engage in prostitution and is serving 50 months in prison.

According to Hay's Los Angeles Superior Court lawsuit, he went to a Los Angeles-area warehouse in late 2020 with Combs and other associates where clothing that belonged to the late rapper Notorious B.I.G. was being stored ahead of it being donated to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. At some point, Combs provided drugs to "everyone present," according to the suit, and later told Hay to put on some of the clothes.

In an October interview with the online outlet Shock Ya, Hay said he decided to go public as the plaintiff in the lawsuit because he is "pushing for criminal charges."

"I want all Diddy's victims to have justice," he said. "For me, it was the right thing to do. Having a voice is important."

The lawsuit alleges that Combs then began to masturbate with one of Biggie's shirts in front of the plaintiff, and when he finished, he threw the shift at the plaintiff, laughed and said "R.I.P. Biggie" as he left the room.

Hay claims that subsequent to that encounter, Biggie's son, Christopher Wallace Jr., and music producer Willie Mack met with the plaintiff on a pretense of apologizing for the earlier incident and establishing a business relationship. According to the suit, however, Hay's head was covered and he was moved to a room with Combs, who yelled at the plaintiff and tried to force him "to perform oral copulation on Combs while plaintiff's head was still covered ..." Hay's civil attorney, Gary Dordick, told the Los Angeles Times, "We intend to present our client's case to a jury in California and we are confident that the truth will prevail."
