“Crisis pregnancy centers often work to attract pregnant Califor nians into their facilities through vague claims about the information and services they offer,” Bonta said in June. “While crisis pregnancy centers may claim to offer comprehen sive reproductive health care services, their mission is to discourage people from accessing abortion care.”There are at least five crisis pregnancy centers in Los Angeles, Feuer said at a news briefing in August.

Feuer’s proposal is a response to the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade in June, striking down the federal constitutional right to an abortion that had been in place for nearly five decades. He claimed that some so-called crisis pregnancy centers falsely advertise to women seeking abortions, specifically those who are low-income and in a “very stressful physical and emotional moment in their lives.”In June, California Attorney General Rob Bonta issued a consumer alert warning of the “limited and potentially misleading nature of the services provided by crisis pregnancy centers.”

She described such centers at the time as “often decep tive” and “detrimental to women when they are most vulnerable.”
The centers may not actually provide abortion resources or referrals, Feuer said. They might not have the proper testing or diagnostics or have unqualified staff. on the ground level and living units above? How far above? Three stories? Five? Isn’t there a very specific code in Monrovia that says one may not block the view of the mountains? I jest, but there should Somebodybe!enlighten me,

f I had a dollar for every time a local complained about development in Monrovia, I would never have to pay for coffee again. The complaints vary in severity. Some are afraid Monrovia will start to look like Pasadena, which would be a tragedy I cannot imagine anyone being ok with. Some are against devel opment because of the drought. That’s a tough one, because unless people are moving in from different states, I must assume these humans are already using water where they currently live. New development does not equal new humans; just the relocation of the humans. Some people are against development because of a potential increase in traffic, but I call bullsh*t. Traffic is such a finicky brat, there’s no rhyme or reason to her mood swings. Half the traffic on Huntington is people avoiding the 210, not shoppers/diners.Itiscommon knowledge (I think), that local govern ment is pushing for develop ment. California was already on the verge of a housing crisis, which was severely exacerbated by COVID-19. The state expects to need a mind-boggling 1.8 million homes by 2025. How is that even possible? Where will they build these homes? How many of them will be “affordable?” That is if

especially. I abhor Old Town Pasadena and rarely go. Can I see the Huntington Oaks Center developed into a Monrovia-esque Paseo? Sure. Picture subterranean parking lots, Trader Joe's and other businesses on the ground floor amongst fountains, while apartment dwellers look down from above. I’m not saying this look is my goal, mind you;
However, my query is based on the heart of Old Town, like the 4 or 500 block of Myrtle. If the area is zoned for that type of development who, if anyone, can put the kibosh on it? No one wants to invite a lawsuit against the city, so how does kiboshing work? I am seriously asking. I’m certain I remember hearing talk about many not wanting the movie theatre to come to Old Town.

just that I can see the fit. But what about in our lovely village? How would people feel about a develop ment in Old Town proper? Not on the border, like Paragon and the Avalon, but actually in the heart of Old Town. I think people would lose their sh*t! Heads would explode! Can you imagine a subterranean lot in Old Town? Shops

As my yard sale-loving neighbor used to say, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” Last I checked, most Monrovians don’t own a ton of property in Old Town. Most of those folks are outsiders who don’t give a rat’s ass about main taining our quaint vibe. It’s all about the Benjamins, baby. I’m honestly curious about what can be done to avert unwanted [potential] growth.
please. When the Colorado Commons were under construction, did people revolt? What about the Oak
you consider “affordable” actually affordable (cough, cough, morebullsh*t, cough). Most of these develop ments are set to coincide with freeways and public transit, in alignment with the workforce commute that a lot of people face. That makes sense. It takes the sting out a bit. Do I love these developments? Not
Park apartments? Those structures are in Old Town. They aren’t Myrtle adjacent, but they’re pretty darn close. I can’t imagine there was no backlash.
Now, look at us…we missed it so, during COVID. Now, I’m not saying any of this is in the works so don’t you fret. But next time y’all start complaining about the new Monrovian and their lack of original Monrovian menu items, remember that once a building goes up for sale, there’s no telling who might purchase it and what they might want to put there.

“This new version is my own that’s remodel-led and rebranded with a totally new look and feel—it’s a lot more modern. Instead of staying in the Little Saigon area of Orange County, we wanted to branch out. So our first step was going to 626, the area code of the San Gabriel Valley, which
has a large Vietnamese population. We then went to Chino Hills, an up and coming Asian community that’s growing so rapidly. Chino Hills is such a warm and welcoming community with people of all races and backgrounds that want to try new things, whereas San Gabriel is populated more by an older genera tion who already knows what Tay Ho is.”
Interviewed by phone, Yenson talks about the history of the Tay Ho food family enterprise, Tay Ho Takeout Restaurants, and
some of her plans to grow the“Mybusiness. grandparents immigrated to the United States in 1980 when my dad was 10 years old. They went to Illinois when they first moved here—I don’t know why they chose Illinois—but they found the weather too cold. Besides, they were looking to settle down where there was a Vietnamese popula tion. So they headed west to California.”In1986, the family opened their first Tay Ho Restaurant in Westmin ster—home to the largest Vietnamese population outside Vietnam. Yenson is quick to point out that at that time the Asian Garden Mall had yet to finish construction (it opened in 1987) and the Viet namese community called Little Saigon was still in its infancy. And it is in that vein that Yenson honors the timeless practice of preparing authentic and delicious Vietnamese street food that her grandparents and parents grew up with. "Recognizing the needs of the flourishing Vietnamese community, her father Jayce Yenson established the Tay Ho Food Company."
ivian Yenson, who was born and raised in Fountain Valley in Orange County, isn’t your average 21-yearold college graduate. In fact, there’s nothing average about this young woman who earlier this year opened her brain child restaurant in San Gabriel–Tay Ho Takeout Restaurant. And that was before she graduated from Cal State Fullerton this past May. As if that wasn’t impressive enough, a month ago she inaugurat ed her second restaurant in Chino Hills.
explains the rationale for taking the Tay Ho brand outside Orange County, “We currently already have a few loca tions in Westminster that my grandparents started and which continue to be run by my great- aunt and uncle. There’s no point opening another one in Orange County so close to where there are already existing Tay Ho restau rants–although we will revisit that sometime soon. We decided to focus on places farther away where people aren’t likely to find bánh cu ố n.
A surprising revela tion is that Yenson never envisioned being in this business; it was fate that intervened. She discloses, “I always thought I was going to be in the corpo rate world. Having grown up around my family and relatives who are in the restaurant business, I know all the stress and pressure. I was supposed to study abroad the summer that COVID hit, but because of the worldwide lockdown, I didn’t end up doing that. Instead, I worked at West
Lake Food Corporation when my dad had a corpo rate position available and I assumed the title Family Business Director.
“I helped in various projects, including restau rant franchising which I got curious about. The first project I worked on was R&D (research and development), specifically Vietnamese coffee. It was after I completed that first project that I got involved. I had a free weekend and I spent it reading about the Vietnamese coffee drink and what makes it special. I love coffee, and Tay Ho Restaurants use a very good coffee Nguyen–whichbrand–Trunghasaslight chocolate flavor. We blend it with condensed milk and hazelnut creamer. It’s creamy and sweet with chocolate flavor, without being too sweet or bitter.”

Since the proposed changes are limited to proce dures and requirements for Planned Developments and do not per tain to any specific land use permissions or development standards, there is no possibility that the amendments will have a significant effect on the environment.
