FIREFIGHTER WHO DIED IN EL DORADO FIRE IDENTIFIED AS 20 YEAR VETERAN

T

he firefighter who died battling the El Dorado Fire in California was identified by officials as a man who’d fought blazes for the state for nearly 20 years. Charlie Morton, squad boss for the elite Big Bear Interagency Hotshot Crew, died on Thursday in San Bernardino National Forest, the U.S. Forest Service said in a statement. He was 39. He leave a wife and child. Morton’s cause of death was not yet

revealed, though the statement said he died “while engaged in fire suppression operations.” A press release issued by the US Forest Service on Sept. 21 stated that “It is with deep sadness that USDA Forest Service officials on the San Bernardino National Forest announce the death of Charles Morton, a Big Bear Interagency Hotshot Squad Boss, who died while engaged in fire suppression operations on the El Dorado Fire late Thursday, September 17,

His 14-year Forest Service career began in 2006 with the Truckee Interagency Hotshots on the Tahoe National Forest. OC Health Care Agency Wants Everyone to Get a Flu Shot

The City of Riverside encourages registered voters who live within the city limits to apply for a position on the Charter Review Committee, which examines the document that governs how the City is run and may recommend changes for consideration by the City Council. The deadline to apply is Oct. 12, 2020. “Serving on the Charter Review Committee is one of the highest forms of community service a voter can perform in Riverside,” Mayor Rusty Bailey said. “We need Riversiders to step forward and provide meaningful input to a document that is so crucial to the operation of our city.” The City Charter is effectively Riverside’s version of the U.S. Constitution. With flu season now upon us, the OC Health Care Agency is already anticipating the potentially devastating effects of a double whammy of influenza and COVID-19 cases hitting in the fall and winter months and urges everyone to get a flu shot. “Even if you never get a flu shot, it’s absolutely vital that you take this important step to make sure we don’t overburden our health system,” said OC Board of Supervisor Chairwoman Michelle Steel, Second District. “It is essential that we all take the necessary precautions to avoid an outbreak of the flu as we continue to face the COVID-19 pandemic.
