Do you ever wonder what you would do if you ever lost a job? It can be very scary when you find out that you no longer have a paycheck coming.
As a result, here is a list of techniques and suggestions on how to manage the fear of losing your job.
1. Keep your skills up to date
The first step is to get into the habit of always updating your skills just in case something should happen. Continuous education in your field of work will also help you. If you do lose your job, having the proper skills will make it easier to find another job.
2. Take control of your career
Do not rely on your current employer for a job. Keep your resume current and learn how to do an effective job search. Try to learn some new skills stan@managingfear.com
while you have a job. Being prepared will help manage your fears and anxieties of losing your job in the future. 3. Manage your finances Develop a budget to manage your expenses and try to save some money on a monthly basis. You never know when you might be out of a job so it’s important to have some money saved in the bank in case something should happen.
4. Stay active in your current job
Always keep the lines of communication open at your job. Communication with management and others can give you an idea of how safe your job actually is. This will give you time to prepare ahead of time before you do lose your job.
5. Learn how to manage your worrying
It can be difficult not to worry when you are in the process of being unemployed. Instead of getting sick with worry, try to think of the positive things in your life. Take things one day at a time and do not try to predict what may happen in the future.
6. Talk to a mental health counselor
Many counselors may know of different government programs that can help you with your finances and health insurance if you lose your job. In addition, a counselor will be able to give you advice on how to manage your anxieties and may know of a career counselor who can help you.

Angela COPELAND,
angela@copelandcoaching.com I 've noticed a disturbing trend lately. It's not new, but it certainly seems to be increasing. When you are a customer and something goes wrong at a company, the company doesn't resolve the issue until you get angry.
Can you relate to this experience? You have a problem with a product or service you received. There isn't an easy way to get it addressed. So, perhaps you visit the company website. They try to funnel you to a frequently asked questions page. When that doesn't work, you try live chat. You quickly learn that the live chat person on the other side isn't a person at all. It's an automated bot. So, you begin to ask for a real person. When you finally get a real person, they often don't have the power to truly help you. They likely

also haven't been trained to have all the answers either. If you get very angry, eventually, someone knowledgeable will be assigned to help you. Companies often have a special team to handle angry customers. Then, suddenly, your issue will be resolved! In the meantime, you'll be left with a headache and some level of exhaustion from all the work it took to get there. Depending on the company, this process could take minutes, hours, or even days.
I observe a similar phenomenon in today's workplace. Often, it's the loudest, most aggressive people who are able to push their agendas through. You may have even found yourself escalating issues at times when you would prefer not to, in order to get things done. And, you've probably had that headache and exhaustion.
It's quite an unfortunate state of affairs when our currency is our anger. Whether you're a customer or you're at work, it should not be necessary to escalate to such a level to get resolution. People should be willing to follow through on their commitments. And, they should be honest and straightforward when they cannot.
As you go through your day, I hope you might take this idea into consideration. It may not help as much when you're working to push an agenda through. But, I hope that when you are the gatekeeper, you may not require the other person to use anger as their currency. Try to be more flexible.

READER RESPONDS TO ‘…6 WAYS TO MANAGE SUCCESS AND POPULARITY’

According to Genesis 12:2, when Abram (later Abraham) reached the age of 75, God told him that he’d make him famous.
Well, with the thought that perhaps it’s also not too late for me, at the age of 79, to become successful, popular and even famous, I’ve decided to take Stan Popovich’s advice. And in anticipation of my fame, I’ve hired two ghost writers to answer the tons of letters I expect to receive from my fans. I’ll also instruct my secretary not to accept any requests for an interview between the hours of 12 noon and 3 p.m. At my age, you see, I need a leisurely lunch and a power nap — anything to lessen the stress of fame. And, oh yes! I’ll make sure that my assistants are young, pretty women (at my age, all women are young and pretty). In short, to paraphrase Will Rogers, I've never met a woman I didn’t like.
