CALIFORNIA GAS PRICES ARE THROUGH THE ROOF

VOL. 7, , NO. 39

Approaching $5 in some areas Terry MILLER tmiller@beaconmedianews.com

ave you noticed a decrease in the number of high speed pursuits in the Los Angeles area? Well, it’s true and I have a theory: Gas is too damn expensive to fill up and go on a three or four hour pursuit on LA freeways. Start saving up for that Tesla or Chevy Spark. Gas prices are ludicrously out of control. $50 plus to fill up an ‘economic’ Honda Civic, with a ten gallon tank… Really? Gas prices Los Angeles shot up nearly 5 cents overnight Sunday but in the San Gabriel Valley some stations are selling the petroleum at close to $5 per gallon Monday morning. For nearly two weeks, prices have been increasing daily in the L.A. area, due in part to the attacks in the Middle East, some pundits will tell you. According to AAA, the average price of a gallon of gas in L.A. County is $4.11 - up 32 cents since last week and 53 cents from a month ago. In Orange County, the average is $4.09, a 52-cent jump from last month. Drivers in the Inland Empire are paying $4.02 at the pump. California currently imposes the second-highest gas taxes in the country. A state excise tax currently adds $.417 per gallon, a rate that will increase to $.473 come July. On top of that, the state imposes a 2.25 percent gasoline sales tax The U.S. average gas price is $2.99 per gallon, however, can you remember the last time you paid under $3 for a gallon? Americans are 13th on the list of sheer prices, when you factor in our country’s high-income levels and wealth relative to this price, the United States has the fourthhighest gasoline affordability rating on the globe (that is, one gallon of gas costs only a tiny fraction of our average daily income)- this according to GlobalPetrolPrices.com Analysts say the problem is diminished supply, primarily caused by maintenance issues at the Chevron and Marathon refineries in L.A. County, as well as the absence of imported fuel from Saudi Arabia’s oil fields after the alleged drone and missile attacks by Iran. And just in case you were wondering, the countries with the most expensive gas prices are generally in Europe, with Italy, the Netherlands and Norway and England all charging at least $7.00 per gallon. Don’t be fooled by the advertised liter price. View the most up to date gasoline prices at GlobalPetrolPrices.com. Here are the top three countries with the cheapest gas prices, according to a Bloomberg report: 1. Venezuela: Technically, the price per gallon at the Venezuelan pumps is $ 0.01 — meaning that it would cost pennies to fill up a rig. 2. Iran: The Iranians, with huge oil reserves of their own, charge $0.43 per gallon. 3. Kuwait: The Kuwaitis pay $1.31 per gallon.
