METRO BOARD APPROVES FUNDS FOR GOLD LINE EXTENSION TO POMONA $360 million still needed to build to Montclair

etro board approved finalizing negotiations with the Construction Authority to ensure sufficient funding for the base contract for the Glendora to Montclair project to include the Pomona Station, with an option to build to Montclair as part of the same contract if additional funding is secured. With the commitment by Metro, the project has sufficient funding to extend

to Pomona, while we continue to seek the estimated $360 million needed to build to Montclair; this approval comes at a critical time. Later this month the Construction Authority will request new bids from the remaining design-build teams competing for the project. The proposed contract will now include the Pomona Station as part of the base project under procurement, and the final cost will be known when

bids are received in May. The ability to phase construction of the line is currently undergoing environmental review. Metro Directors County Supervisor Hilda Solis and Duarte Mayor John Fasana provided leadership in ensuring the first phase of construction has sufficient funding to

A former correctional officer at the Federal Correctional Complex in Victorville has been sentenced to 24 months in prison for sexually abusing several female inmates while on duty. Apolonio Gamez, 41, of Lake Elsinore, was sentenced by United States

District Judge Jesus G. Bernal. In addition to the prison term, Judge Bernal ordered that Gamez would be on supervised release for seven years after he is released from prison. Gamez was also ordered to pay a $5,000 special assess-

An Irvine engineer who stole trade secrets belonging to two former employers, both of which develop and manufacture medical devices used to treat cardiac and vascular ailments, was sentenced to 27 months in federal prison. Wenfeng Lu, 46, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Andrew J. Guilford. Lu was sentenced after

pleading guilty last May to six counts of unauthorized possession and attempted possession of trade secrets. Lu admitted that he stole confidential and proprietary trade secrets from two different medical device companies with research facilities in Irvine, where Lu worked from January 2009 until he was

An Inland Empire man has been sentenced to 60 months in federal prison for his role in scheme that stole victims’ identities and used them to claim more than $800,000 in fraudulent tax refunds. Raymond Salazar, 55, Salazar was further ordered to pay restitution of
