BY AMELIA FAVELA orld Mission Society Church of God (WMSCOG) hosted their 5396th worldwide cleanup campaign Sunday, January 20, 2019 in continued efforts to promote a healthy and clean environment. Nearly 100 volunteers from WMSCOG gathered early Sunday morning with the determination to improve the
planet by cleaning up the streets. The members, wearing royal blue shirts and red vests in unison, walked along Sunset Boulevard, Western Avenue, and Hollywood Boulevard for two hours picking up trash and reporting the removal of bulky items using the MyLA311 app. Volunteer Cathleen Meighan, study coordinator at Doheny Image Reading Center, said she felt happy to do something positive for her community through her participation in the event. “It was a great experience to feel that
I was helping my community. I feel a great joy when I am allowed the opportunity to give back to society. It may not seem like much, but with over 8,000 churches participating throughout the whole world, I am sure a difference was made. Deputies assigned to the Perris Sheriff Station were dispatched to the area of Ruby Drive and Turquoise Drive to investigate a report of a male who had been shot. Deputies arrived and located a male suffering from a fatal gunshot wound. The male was later identified as, Carlos MartinCabrera, a twenty-nineyear-old male from Perris. Investigators from the

Sheriff’s Aviation was requested for a search and rescue of a male who fell and sustained serious injuries while hiking near San Bernardino Peak. The Sheriff’s valley patrol helicopter 40King5 responded, searched the area and located the injured hiker in snow and ice at the approximate 9,000 foot level. As a result of the fall, he was unable to walk out
of the area on his own. Due to the remote area, steep terrain and the presence of hard packed ice and snow, the crew requested the Sheriff’s rescue helicopter respond for a hoist recue. Sheriff’s Air Rescue 306 responded to the scene and lowered rescue personnel trained in ice rescue. The hiker was placed into
