Ring in the New Year at Noon With the Munchkins Susan MOTANDER motander@yahoo.com

Staying up to midnight to celebrate the New Year is too much for some youngsters. The city of Monrovia has set up a new program so that families can celebrate together at Noon Year’s Eve rather than midnight. The Family themed event will take place in Library Park (321 S. Myrtle Ave.) starting at 10 a.m. and lasting until 1 p.m.

An “adult” celebration is planned for later in the day. Starting at 7 p.m. and lasting until 12:30 a.m. The community is encouraged to gather in Old Town to ring in the New Year at the traditional hour. Child care will be available from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Community Center for $20. Because there is limited parking in the Old Town area, the city is encouraging residents to use its GoMonrovia program by getting to the festiites using a Limebike or Lyft.

REGISTER FOR MONROVIA’S NEW CO-ED YOUTH SPORTS PROGRAM Staff WRITER editorial@beaconmedianews.com

Registration is now open for the new co-ed Youth Sports Program. All 4th and 5th grade boys and girls have the opportunity to join the indoor volleyball team for the winter season. “The City of Monrovia Recreation Division is excited to, once again, offer a premier

activity for the youth,” said Katie Distelrath, recreation manager. “This is a great opportunity for 4th and 5th graders to stay active, make new friends and best off all have fun!” The reimagined Youth Sports Program provides city-wide sports programming instead of a school-site specific program. veryone knows cats absolutely abhor water, but recently a little kitten, who just happened to be going home from a trip to the vet, suddenly decided that shots at the veterinarian along with mom taking the car to a car wash was all too much for a kitten to take - thus truly adding insult to injury. During what should have been a routine visit to the

local drive-through car wash on the way home from getting a round of vaccinations for the family’s beloved kitten, Veronica Hahni’s son Brendan, 13, reached into Nugget’s carrier “to soothe her and keep her calm.” Suddenly, while searching for any means of escape, Nugget managed to squirm right out of that carrier and found her way into an opening behind the gas pedal, “disappearing in two seconds flat,” according to Veronica Hahni.
