SAN GABRIEL UNIFIED ELEMENTARY STUDENTS ACHIEVE CONTINUED GROWTH

oosevelt Elementary students improved their performance on California’s English language arts (ELA) and mathematics tests in 2018, continuing a three-year upward trend attributed in part to the school’s Music Immersion Experience (MIE) program. Formed in 2015, the MIE program enhances student learning and achievement through music education. San Gabriel Unified launched the program after bring inspired by El Sistema programs throughout the country, as well as recent Northwestern University research that discovered a positive link between music education and lifelong academic success. “Music has a way of energizing an entire campus community, which in turn helps

City Of Ontario Has New Fire Chief The City Council of Ontario is pleased to announce the appointment of Ray Gayk to the position of Fire Chief. After 21 years of service to the Ontario Fire Department, he will officially be appointed Fire Chief at the City Council meeting taking place Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. Chief Ray Gayk’s promotion from the position of Senior Deputy Fire Chief comes during the Department’s 125th Anniversary. In total, Gayk has devoted

25 years to fire service, and in those year, he has held various roles, including SWAT Medic, Public Information Officer, and Battalion Chief. Outside of his local dedication to fire service, Chief Gayk has held leadership positions including Vice President of the OPS section of International Fire Chiefs Association and the State Legislative Committee for

Anaheim PD to Conduct DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint The Anaheim Police Department Traffic Unit will be conducting a DUI/ Driver’s License Checkpoint Friday December 14, 2018 on Anaheim Blvd at Lincoln Ave between the hours of 8:00 P.M. and 3:00 A.M. The deterrent and preventive effects of DUI checkpoints make them a proven resource in reducing the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol or drug involved crashes.

Research shows that crashes involving an impaired driver can be reduced by up to 20 percent when well-publicized DUI checkpoints and proactive DUI patrols are conducted routinely. DUI Checkpoints are placed in locations based on collision statistics and frequency of DUI arrests, affording the greatest opportunity

Long Beach 10,000 by 2022 TreePlanting Initiative to Reach Milestone The City of Long Beach, along with 300 community volunteers, will celebrate the planting of the 4000th tree as part of the I Dig Long Beach – 10,000 by 2022 tree-planting initiative. The milestone celebration will take place during morning activities in the Ridgewood Cove neighborhood of North Long Beach where more than 100 young trees, including crape myrtles and fern pines, will be planted along the parkways of Rose Avenue, East Silva Street, Walnut Avenue and on other

nearby blocks. I Dig Long Beach recently received a significant funding boost — a $1.26 million grant from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) that allowed the initiative to be extended to the 2022 goal. Initial funding of $671,200 for 6,000 trees by 2020 was provided by a Port of Long Beach grant. Who:
