STREET VENDORS CAN NOW OPERATE IN MONROVIA Staff WRITER editorial@beaconmedianews.com
This past week, Monrovia city staff began assessing a necessary update to the city’s municipal code regarding vending in public spaces. Governor
Jerry Brown signed SB 946 (dubbed the Safe Sidewalk Vending Act) into law, which forbids cities the ability to outlaw sidewalk vendors. While the new state regulation does provide cities SEE STREET VENDORS PAGE 11
as next Tuesday. City staff is completing a plan that would cost the city as little as possible. This would be done in coordination with the Monrovia Renewal program. The current plan calls for removal in two phases. Based on the city’s experience over the past five years since the fire, the proposed plan calls for removing all the rails, except those adjacent to Highland Place, in late October and early November of this year. This schedule will allow the
city to implement the plan with the Renewal projects in that part of the city and thus not cost the city any money. This process may take a few months. During the next rainy season the city staff will closely monitor the situation around Highland to determine the best time to remove the K-rails in that part of the city. The goal is to remove the rails and prevent any chance of flooding on Highland Place. It is hoped these last rails can be removed during the first quarter of 2019.

NEW OLD TOWN MONROVIA LOGO FINALIZED
Susan MOTANDER motander@yahoo.com
Monrovia has had its Lyft subsidized ride program for several months, but not all the community is using the program as effectively as possible and some may even be intimidated to use
the system. To alleviate the fears and teach more members of the community how to use the system to get around the city, a tutorial has been prepared targeting seniors who may be hesitant to use the new system. SEE LYFT 101 PAGE 11
