City’s First New Fire Station in a Decade Opens, Enhancing Service in North Anaheim

R

esidents and businesses in northeast Anaheim have greater peace of mind with the opening of the city’s first new fire station in 10 years. Station No. 5, the newest of Anaheim Fire & Rescue’s 11 stations across the city, celebrated its grand opening today. The event, held in in the apparatus bay behind the station’s shiny red roll-up doors, marks a new chapter for emergency response services in Anaheim while rekindling some ties to the past. “We never stop looking at ways to improve service for our residents, businesses and visitors,” Anaheim Fire & Rescue Fire Chief Randy Bruegman said. “Through our strategic planning process, we determined that by relocating Station No. 5 to La Palma and Sunkist, we would improve response times to approximately 4,000 emergency calls per year. That makes a true impact for our residents and

Long Beach Police Chief Robert Luna has selected Lieutenant Patrick O’Dowd, a 25-year veteran of the Police Department, for promotion to the rank of Commander. Lieutenant O’Dowd

began his career with the Police Department in January 1993 as a Clerk Typist in the Records Division. He was promoted to Records Supervisor where he worked until being hired as a Police Recruit in 1995.

He promoted to Sergeant in January 2011 and to Lieutenant in September 2015. Lieutenant O’Dowd has worked a variety of assign-

Woman Pleads to Threatening Glendora School A 39-year-old woman entered no contest pleas for posing as a teenager and sending threatening letters to a Catholic school, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Magaly Esmeralda Alvarenga of Rialto entered the pleas to two counts of criminal threats and one count of stalking in case KA118228. The defendant is sched-

uled to return to court for sentencing on Aug. 9 in Department F of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Pomona Branch.

Arson Arrest Made By Cal Fire Law Enforcement On Cranston Fire And Other Fires On Wednesday, July 25, 2018, CAL FIRE Law Enforcement Officers arrested Brandon N. McGlover, 32 of Temecula for allegedly setting multiple fires in southwest Riverside County on July 25, 2018. One of the

fires McGlover allegedly started is the Cranston Fire, which is actively burning on Federal land in the San Jacinto Ranger District and is currently 4,700 acres with zero percent containment. Evacuation orders are in

place for hundreds of residents. Five residential structures have been destroyed. The Cranston Fire is under Unified Command between
