STATE TREASURER AND ARCADIA LEADERS SHOWER ACCOLADES AT GROUNDBREAKING

Arcadia citizen Stan Raddon has lived across from the Los Angeles County Arboretum for 46 years. “I have watched the degradation of Lake Baldwin,” says Raddon. Raddon spent much of his professional life in the conversion of bio-mass into environmental fuel. Suffice it to say Raddon pays attention to natural cycles and how society can benefit from it while keeping the Earth intact. Raddon also pays attention to natural things that work against humans, in this case: green algae. Lake Baldwin has large swaths of blue-green algae covering what is left of the surface of Lake Baldwin. It may come as no surprise to see algae in a lake, but blue-green algae can be deadly to humans if it blooms. SEE LAKE BALDWIN PAGE 11

Arcadia Leadership Academy Forming for September Start The City of Arcadia is offering a free, behind-thescenes look into the City’s operations for Arcadia residents 18 years and older starting in September 2018. This powerful community leadership program grants residents an all-access pass that immerses them in the inner-workings of Arcadia’s city government. The Academy produces empowered, inspired, and engaged resident leaders who strengthen the community and play an active role in Arcadia’s future. "The Leadership Academy is a priceless opportunity to get to know your City and have your voice heard,” said a 2017 Leadership Academy Graduate. “The program helps residents learn more about the City’s operations and builds stronger ties between the City and its residents.” SEE ARCADIA LEADERSHIP PAGE 10
