MASSIVE ARCADIA PROJECT, ‘LE MERIDIEN ONE GALLOP WAY,’ TO BREAK GROUND NEXT WEEK

he former Santa Anita Inn, now razed, is the site for an ambitious new $300 million hotel project opposite the Santa Anita race track. Next Wednesday, June 27, Developer Chateau Group USA will hold a ceremonial groundbreaking for the hotel and mixed-use development named One Gallop Way. Le Meridien by Marriott is phase one of the $300
million development. Situated on 6.15 acres, Chateau Group USA has retained Pacifica Hotels as the management company for the hotel’s 227 rooms, suites, and food. Architecture firm Architects Orange, interior design firm Linda Snyder Associates, and Snyder Langston has been tapped as the construction company to build the Le Meridien Development. The property will provide a cosmopolitan rooftop pool and bar with full food service. A 24-foot long Redwood bench anchors the lobby’s 20-foot art-masterpiece glasswall, which has been handcarved in California. “The bench is made from one of the original Redwoods, which was growing on the property

and was carefully removed and repurposed preserving a piece of the site’s heritage,” according to a press release sent out last week. Le Meridien - Arcadia will also present a full service spa adjacent to the property and a world class Asian-Fusion dining experience in the hotel restaurant. The hotel will have a spacious California-style, seamless indoor-outdoor ballroom for weddings and special corporate events. A 20-foot high glass wall will overlook the lush garden. The hotel is set to open during the first quarter of 2020 with later development components to follow soon after.
During City Council’s public comment period on Tuesday, resident David Fong described, in detail, a recent incident in which Highland Oaks School was put on lockdown while Arcadia Police searched for suspects in a residential robbery. Fong’s wife, a teacher at Highland Oaks, said the
children were safe but Fong insisted that many of those students were clearly traumatized by that event and remain so to this day. Luckily, the intrepid efforts of the Arcadia Police proved fruitful and the burglary suspects were arrested without any further incident.
