The members of the Women’s Committee of the Pasadena Symphony Association met this weekend at a private club in Pasadena for their annual Spring Luncheon to welcome and celebrate five new members. Each new member was introduced to the group by their sponsor. Membership Chair Sue Shieff sponsored Ann Beeson-Leal, Cynthia Bradley, and Amy Chang-Levak. President Lynn Van Dam Cooper sponsored Patricia Russell and Social
Chair Susan Turner sponsored her daughter, Jossalyn Emslie. A video highlighting the history of the “Holiday Look in Home Tour and Boutique,” the group’s major fundraiser benefiting the Pasadena Symphony and Pops, was presented. President Lynn Cooper recognized the many contributions of all those who made the 2017 “Look In” a rousing success, and said she is looking forward to another outstanding event in
2018. For information regarding membership in the Women’s Committee of the Pasadena Symphony Association please contact Mrs. Sue Shieff at sueshieff@gmail. The

Monrovia Fire Department Begins Brush Inspections The 2018 brush season is fast approaching and, as is customary, the Monrovia Fire Department is gearing up to perform brush inspections of all properties located in the highfire danger areas of town. Based on the current developed schedule, brush inspections will begin on or after May 15 and Monrovia FD will be working with all impacted residents
to coordinate all brush clearance activities. Of particular note, in an effort to reduce the risk of fire danger for all in town and to better coordinate overall brush disposal programs, the City has partnered with Athens Services to provide roll-off-bins and bulky item pick-ups at no cost for impacted residents during the brush clearance season.

Monrovia’s Fountain to the Falls Race Brings out the Fast and Brave Last weekend, the annual 7-mile Fountain to the Falls race was run from the fountain in Library Park to the falls in Monrovia Canyon and back. The fastest time was logged by Ruben Hernandez of Los Angeles. He made the entire route in just 40 minutes and 36 seconds. That is an average pace of 5 minutes and 48 seconds per mile (please take into consideration that the
route to the Falls is literally uphill). The City Manager’s Update this week also noted that Mayor Pro Tem Becky Shevlin ran the race as she does every year. Her time of 1 hour, 25 minutes and 50 seconds averages to a pace of 12 minutes and 15 seconds per mile. “This meant that Ms. Shevlin placed first in her grouping,” the City Manager wrote.
