El Monte Appoints New City Manager The El Monte City Council unanimously appointed Alex Hamilton as the City Manager Tuesday, January 23. Mr. Hamilton has been serving as El Monte’s Assistant City Manager since 2015. “Alex Hamilton has been an effective Assistant City Manager since he started working for our City,” said El Monte Mayor Andre Quintero. “The City has been building momentum for many years and his leadership and steady hand will allow us to maintain continuity and continue building the future.” As a public servant, Mr. Hamilton has over 25-years’ experience working in federal and local government. He began his career in the U.S Army Corp of Engineers in the Environmental Resources Branch. “Alex Hamilton is a seasoned public servant,” said Mayor Pro Tem Juventino “J” Gomez. “With his experience leading local government, we will maintain the City’s drumbeat of success.” Mr. Hamilton’s tenure in local government includes serving the cities of Los Angeles, Norwalk, Glendale, Commerce, Montebello, and most currently El Monte. he City Health Officer has confirmed the first influenza-associated death in an individual less than 65 years of age in Long Beach during the 2017-2018 flu season. The individual was in their 30s and had underlying health conditions. “This death is a sober reminder that flu can cause serious illness,” said Anissa Davis, MD, MPH, Long Beach
City Health Officer. “The Long Beach Health Department continues to recommend that all individuals six months of age and older get their flu vaccine. Getting the flu vaccine can prevent people from getting sick, or may lessen the severity of symptoms for those who become ill.”

SAN BERNARDINO WOMAN ARRESTED FOR POSESSION OF STOLEN VEHICLE On January 24, 2018, at approximately 2:58 pm, the Yucca Valley Multiple Enforcement Team conducted an arrest warrant service at 3575 Desert Villa, in the unincorporated area of Twentynine Palms. Rachel Adkins was contacted at the property who had an active misdemeanor warrant for her arrest. During the arrest warrant investigation, the Yucca Valley Enforcement Team authored and served a search warrant at the residence. Adkins was found to be in possession of a stolen Taurus .38 special revolver and a stolen 1984 Honda ATV parked on the property. Adkins was arrested for possession of stolen firearm, possession of stolen vehicle, and her misdemeanor warrant. She was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail and is being held on a $60,000 bail. A 30-year-old male by the name of Jaime Orozco was arrested for being a felon in possession of ammunition and a 26-year-old
male by the name of Jorge Ochoa was arrested for possession of narcotics for sales, possession of a high capacity magazine, and committing a felony while out on bail. Both were booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility, located in the city of Banning.
