Council Cuts Budget by $2.1M – Eliminates Seven Positions

Prudent City Manager addresses potential deficit early on BY GUS HERRERA Last week, the Pasadena City Council amended the Fiscal Year (FY) 2017 Operating Budget, making $2.1 million in reductions and eliminating seven vacant full-time equivalent (FTE) positions. The actions on the budget were the first in an upcoming series of efforts to reduce the potential for deficits down the road. The particular reductions approved, “were deemed to have less than significant impact on city operations” and were chosen, in part, because they could be applied immediately. Departments losing positions are: the city manager’s office, finance, public works, planning, transportation, and human services and recreation. Positions eliminated include: one project manager, a SEE PAGE 23

Upcoming Traffic Enforcement Program The Pasadena Police Department will be conducting a Traffic Enforcement program this Friday, Oct. 14, 2016, throughout the City of Pasadena. Officers will be deployed at various locations throughout the city to look for violations including, but not limited to, primary collision factors involving speed

Pasadena Vietnam Veterans Leader Will Speak James Maddox, former president of Chapter 446 of the Vietnam Veterans of America in Pasadena and a lifetime member of the national organization, will be the guest speaker at the next meeting of the Martin Severance Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution on Saturday, Nov. 5, at 9 a.m. at the Women’s City Club of Pas-
