City Council Approves Changes to Zoning Code, General Plan

This week the city council approved new changes to the General Plan and Zoning Code. Jason Kruckeberg Assistant City Manager/ Development Services Director called it, “the end of a very long and detailed process.” The process started in 2014 with the goal to “to comprehensively update it and modernize it to bring it up to current development standards,” according to Kruckeberg. Certain sections were decided on separately, including the single-family development standards, which were updated in April, while shortterm rentals and vacant home registry will be considered later. The code was reorganized and now addresses emerging issues such as shopping carts being used outside of retail areas and aims to “make sure the high quality of development that you expect in this community is clearly articulated,” said Laura Stetson a consultant from MIG, an outside development firm. “We discovered a lot of inconsistencies and SEE PAGE 12
Arcadia Host Lions Club Celebrates 80th Year Arcadia Host Lions Club celebrated its 80th year of service with the Arcadia Chamber of Commerce Wednesday evening as a community event. Arcadia Host Lions Club was founded Sept. 21, 1936 and has served the Arcadia community for 80 years through a variety of
projects such as delivering American flags to school children, walk-a-thons, teacher back-to-school barbecue, children's Christmas party, student speaker contest, eye mobile to provide free eye screenings to the community, free eye exams and new glasses for seniors through their
senior sight program. The Arcadia Host Lions Club also supports the Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation which pays for cataract surgeries and hearing aids for people who earn below the poverty level. SEE PAGE 13
