An early Monday morning fire injured two firefighters and burned four homes and a garage in Monrovia. Monrovia Fire Chief Brad Dover estimated damages at $450,000 to the structures and at least $50,000 to contents. The cause of the fire is
under investigation, he said. Monrovia firefighters, with the aid of Acadia, Pasadena, and L.A. County Fire Departments, spent their night fighting a stubborn fire that had extended into two separate houses. One SEE PAGE 10
The Monrovia Renewal project – which is a multiyear initiative that will make priority repairs to the all of the city’s water and sewer pipelines, water facilities, streets, sidewalks, curbs, and gutters – is well underway in the southwest and southeast portions of town, which includes the areas bordered to the north by Colorado Boulevard, to the south by the 210 Freeway, and east and west to the city boundaries. The most impactful construction work that will occur in the southwest and southeast project areas are the planned street improvements. This past week, city personnel met with the street contractor to begin coordinating the scheduling and execution of the planned improvements, which are scheduled to begin on Oct. 10. For the first several
weeks, the contractor will be working on making identified concrete repairs, before getting to the more impactful street enhancements. In an effort to provide additional information regarding the planned street improvements and their associated impacts, a public outreach meeting is currently being planned and has tentatively been set to take place on Wednesday, Oct. 19. This meeting will provide additional details related to anticipated impacts and project schedule, and additional information regarding the meeting will be distributed in the coming weeks. Should you have any questions in the interim, however, please visit www. cityofmonrovia.org/monroviarenewal or feel free to call the public works division at (626) 932-5575.
