Pasadena Man Charged in Amusement Park Ticket Scam A Pasadena resident is accused of scamming numerous victims with fraudulent amusement park tickets was charged with grand theft and other counts last Thursday, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced. Brian Edward Ander-

ton, 43, of Pasadena was expected to be arraigned Friday in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center. He is charged with five counts, including grand theft of personal property and petty theft in case BA449577. Victims came into con-

tact with Anderton through Craigslist, where he allegedly advertised Disneyland tickets for sale, prosecutors said. The defendant allegedly stole more than $2,400 from five people between January and August 2016. SEE PAGE 14

On Aug. 25, the Pasadena Unified School District Board of Education was given an update regarding Madison Elementary School. The issues surrounding Madison have been welldocumented over the past year, most recently 169 of the school’s parents signed a petition to remove Principal Juan Ruelas, who was appointed by Superintendent Brian McDonald without the oversight of a selection committee of stakeholders (i.e. parents, teacher, administrator’s, etc.). Ruelas’ tenure has seen a significant number of employees walk away, with one teacher even filing a milliondollar defamation claim against the principal. Shawn Bird, chief academic officer, presented the board with the update, which cited Madison’s California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) test results, in adSEE PAGE 15
