Kimberly Kenne was elected president of the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) Board of Education, Roy Boulghourjian was elected vice president, and Larry Torres was elected clerk at the board’s annual organizational meeting on May 2.
Boulghourjian was elected to the Board of Education in 2015 and represents District 2. He served as board clerk in the last year. A 30-year resident of Pasadena, he is a professor and department chair at Mt. SEE PAGE 17

The Pasadena City Council held its annual organizational meeting on Monday, May 2. The proceedings moved forward rather quickly, when Mayor Terry Tornek asked council to nominate candidates for the position of vice-mayor, Councilmember Margaret McAustin was fast to step up to the plate. McAustin proudly nominated Councilmember Gene Masuda, the current vicemayor, for a second one-year term. According to McAustin, it is tradition to have the vicemayor serve two terms. Thus, there were no other nominations and Masuda was elected unanimously. Councilmember and Vice-Mayor Masuda represents District 4. The meeting’s consent calendar was approved via a motion sweep, without any objections. Among the items authorized was an approval to modify an existing contract between Pasadena SEE PAGE 17

Annual Golf Tournament Raises $235,000 for Pasadena Humane Society and SPCA The 17th annual Doglegs, Birdies, & Eagles Golf Tournament teed off Monday, April 18, at the San Gabriel Country Club. More than $235,000 was raised for the Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA’s (PHS) programs and services, exceeding the $230,000 goal set by event organizers. Event co-chairs Georgia Coye, Roslyn DeForest, and Dan Lien worked with PHS event coordinators to make for a successful event. More than 144 golfers participated in the annual fundraiser for the Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA. The day began with a putting contest, a full 18-hole course and the helicopter ball drop opportunity drawing. Four buckets filled with golf balls were airlifted by helicopter and were spilled onto the fairway. One ball landed in the hole granting the winner $3,620. The winnings were donated back to PHS. A live and silent auction and an awards dinner concluded the event. “We can’t thank the players, donors, staff at the San Gabriel Country Club and volunteers enough,” says PHS President/CEO Steve McNall.
