On April 2, the Press Photographers’ Association of Greater Los Angeles (PPAGLA) bestowed the Lifetime Achievement Award upon eminent photographer Bill Mochon during its annual awards luncheon in Alhambra. A virtual fixture at Santa Anita Race Track in Arcadia, Mochon for years has been mentoring young and green photographers and helping us all understand horse racing photography’s “dos and don’ts” (i.e. like the first time I met Bill in the late 1990’s he advised me it was not good protocol to stand in front of the automatic camera at the finish line … true story). After a few more sessions at the track I got to know not only Mochon’s immeasurable sense of history and knowledge of the horse racing business, but also his absolute passion for the art of black and white photography. Burglary Suspects Temple City High Student Named Arrested in Duarte ‘Edison Scholar’ With $40,000 Check Five burglary suspects were arrested at approximately 6 a.m. for three business burglaries in the 1700 block of Huntington Drive. Cash registers were taken from all three locations. The suspects drove to a residential area in neighboring Monrovia where they attempted to break the registers. Luckily, residents heard the suspicious noise and called law enforcement. After a short vehicle pursuit that ended at Royal Oaks Drive and Bradbourne Avenue, with the assistance of Monrovia Police Depart-

All property stolen was recovered. If you see or hear anything suspicious in your neighborhood, please make a note of the make/model/ color of the car or description of the person(s) and always call in all suspicious activity to Temple Sheriff's Station at (626) 448-9861.

Six More Teachers Leaving Madison The educational exodus of teachers at Pasadena’s Madison Elementary School deepened recently when six more teachers indicated they are leaving Madison. Previously, 15 of the 21 credentialed personnel at Madison transferred to other Pasadena Unified School District schools or retired rather than work under newly appointed Principal Juan Ruelas, “because of his bullying management style.” Now another six teachers have submitted resignations that are effective when school ends in June; one of the six was a teacher inherited by Ruelas, while five of the six resigning teachers came to Madison this school year after other teachers transferred out or retired.
