Pasadena Increases Security for Rose Parade and Game After San Bernardino Attacks BY TERRY MILLER The Pasadena Police Department, numerous local, state, and federal law enforcement partners have been working together with Tournament of Roses officials to enhance safety measures in preparation for the upcoming 2016 Rose Parade, the Rose Bowl Game, and all pre and post event activities. These efforts will enrich the safe, family-friendly atmosphere for our 127th Rose Parade and 102nd Rose Bowl Game. The Pasadena Police Department has been in daily communication with representatives from the Department of Homeland Security, the FBI, the Joint Terrorism Task Force, and other law enforcement representatives ensuring timely intelligence sharing. There are no known threats to the City of Pasadena or any New Year’s event. In order to enhance the city’s capabilities to prevent, respond to, and mitigate any concerns, the public can expect to see increased uniform law enforcement personnel and several explosive detection canines units over several days and throughout the events. Tragic Shooting at a Vigil for Altadena Man Killed by Gun Violence BY J. SHADÉ QUINTANILLA This past weekend was tragic for a group of Pasadena mourners. As they gathered to mourn the death of a man who was shot dead on Friday night, they were interrupted by the same gun and gang violence that took away their loved one’s life.

On Sunday night, at a vigil held for Robert Calderon, 27, an argument between gang members erupted in gunfire in the 100 block of West Claremont Street, less than two miles away from the unfortunate shooting of Calderon. As both sides exchanged gunfire, a young woman at the vigil was shot twice. The 20-year-

old woman was immediately rushed to the hospital and is currently in stable condition. She suffered injuries to her forearm and stomach. Police say an unknown group of gang members attacked mourners at the vigil, but they could not determine whether the gunman SEE PAGE 5
