El Nino Continues to Gain Strength
Hundreds gathered Sunday afternoon at California State University Long Beach (CSULB) for a vigil honoring the memory of a student who died in the brutal ISIS attacks in Paris, France Friday night. Nohemi Gonzalez, 23, was in a Paris restaurant with friends when she was gunned down. Gonzales was one of 129 people who died Friday after the city was under siege with seven separate attacks that seemed coordinated and well-planned. It was Gonzalez’s dream to visit the City of Light, and she was attending a semester abroad studying design in France. There were a total of 17 CSULB students studying abroad this semester in France. All other students have been reported safe. Hundreds of mourners,

The Azusa City Council on Monday authorized a $59,000 contract with a consulting firm to develop a street maintenance plan and approved $155,000 to lease unmarked police vehicles. Later this month Walnut-based RKA Consulting Group will begin a fourmonth study to assess Azusa's paved roads in order to prioritize maintenance projects. Every three years cities
must commission a "Pavement Management System" in order to receive county funds for street repairs, according to a report by Public Works Director Daniel Bobadilla. "Staff requested proposals from all three of the City’s on-call engineering firms," the report states. "RKA Consulting Group was the only firm with the resources and expertise to develop a Pavement Management System."

RKA "has vast experience preparing Pavement Management Systems for various cities including La Verne, Temple City, Bradbury, Norco, Walnut, and La Habra Heights," according to the report. RKA has provided "engineering design, project management, construction inspection and administration" since 1981, states the company's proposal sub SEE PG. 18
