Veterans Day: 11.11.2015 Nov. 11, 1918 - The End of “The War to End All Wars” BY TERRY MILLER World War I – known at the time as “The Great War” - officially ended when the Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919, in the Palace of Versailles, France. However, fighting ceased seven months earlier when an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. For that reason, Nov, 11, 1918, is generally regarded as the end of “the war to end all wars.”
In November 1919, President Wilson proclaimed Nov. 11 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day with the following words: "To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with SEE PG.4

ple of how K-12 and higher education institutions can work together on a local level to solve persistent problems—in this case, how to create better pathways to college and career,” the Governor said. “We need to expand opportunities for a broad range of students or lose our competitive edge with other states and other nations,” explained Assemblymember Holden. “Concurrent enrollment can motivate students who aren't on the college track and provide opportunities for students who want to get started in their careers earlier by working towards a degree or certificate in career technical education. Even those who've struggled in high school classes can rise to the challenge, motivated by the chance to try on the role of a college student.” AB 288 creates a partnership between high schools and community colleges to remove barriers that historically kept underserved students from
