Sierra Madre Yellow Tap Water Continues to Haunt Residents; Conservation Goal Not Met BY TERRY MILLER According to a recent memorandum to the city council from City Manager Elaine Aguilar on Sept. 25, “Portions of the City are experiencing an increase in water discoloration due to the temporary shutdown of the water treatment system that had been somewhat effective in reducing the iron being released into the water from public and private piping. Treatment of the water will resume as soon as possible.” The water discolora-

tion is at an extreme level now, according to many residents who have been dealing with the issue for at least a year. Recently a one-inch underground pipe burst on Liliano Drive causing a sinkhole which nearly swallowed a city worker’s truck. Of course, the reality is that Sierra Madre’s infrastructure of water pipes is over 90 years old and need replacing. Apparently, the water discoloration began when the city imported water SEE PG. 16

I served as the Pasadena City’s Development Administrator in the Housing and Development Department from 1982 – 2000. My job was to know where the City was headed and to make the engine perform to get it there. My primary role was to revitalize what was then a very dilapidated Downtown Pasadena, including Old Pasadena. In that role, I pioneered for Pasadena the economic development strategy of place-based economics instead of a projectby-project development approach. Felony Hit & Run Occurs After Pursuit of Stolen Vehicle in Azusa Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department San Dimas Station is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding a felony hit and run that occurred after a pursuit of a stolen vehicle shortly after 7:18 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 28, 2015. Within a few seconds, the suspect vehicle side-swiped another vehicle eastbound Gladstone Street near Azusa Avenue.
