El Monte City Council Approves the Bannister Housing Development On Tuesday, Sept. 15, the El Monte City Council voted to approve the Bannister Housing Development, a new residential housing project that will bring 22 new homes to the city. “I hear every day that we need to build more housing in El Monte,” El Monte Mayor Andre Quintero said. “In order for our community to continue to thrive, we must attract and keep families in our City. Walmart received the go-ahead to build a 182,429 square-foot superstore that will sell general merchandise and groceries to El Monte residents. The store will include a garden center, bakery, deli, photo lab and off-site alcohol sales. In addition, Walmart will lease

According to the company, the new store will bring 300 jobs and over $550,000 to the city through tax revenue. They will also contribute thousands of dollars in street and traffic improvements and for an on/off ramp traffic study for the I-10 freeway. Based on a public opin-
