ummer is officially almost over and fall is just around the corner. As we trade in our shorts and flip-flops for something a little warmer, it is time for all of us to gear up for a season of Santa Ana winds, pumpkin spice lattes, cooler weather, and the fun fall events the San Gabriel Valley has to offer. This fall season, there are many entertaining events and performances in the arts that you and the family definitely will not want to miss. This fall’s theatre season is packed with exciting and thrilling plays and musicals, such as Real Women Have Curves and Breaking Through at the Pasadena Playhouse and A Flea in Her Ear, Jean Anouilh’s Antigone, and All My Sons at A Noise Within. The Sierra Madre Playhouse will extend their critically-acclaimed Always... Patsy Cline with 12 more performances and will also put on the mystery play, Deathtrap. The only performing arts center in Arcadia, the Arcadia Performing Arts Foundation, will host a variety of fun events, including the movie premiere of

Shadé Quintanilla Everything Before Us, produced by Arcadia High School alum Christine Chen, Magic: An Undying Love, a magic show featuring illusionist Gary Peterson and Arcadia High School’s fall play The Secret in the Wings, along with other high school performing arts shows. In Pasadena, the annual three-day Pasadena Festival of the Arts will feature juried fine arts, handcrafted works, unique gifts for purchase and delicious edibles. The festival will also coincide with ArtNight Pasadena. A night of art, music, and entertainment, seventeen of Pasadena’s institutions, including the Norton Simon Museum, Armory Center for the Arts, and Kidspace Children’s Museum, will open their doors to the public for this free special night. There will also be free shuttle busses that will connect guests to the different venues throughout the event. The Monrovia Association of Fine Arts will have their 52nd annual “Celebrate the Arts Show.” For two nights, there will be art demos, kids chalk art activities, great musical performances and delicious food. The show will also feature artist Elizabeth Butterfield and include Monrovia’s first ever ChalkFest. At the Coleman Chamber Music Association, there will be three great musical performances from the Grammy-winning Emerson String Quartet, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln C e n t e r, featuring

the famous pianist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, and the Elias String Quartet, winners of the Sidney Griller Prize at the 9th London International String Quartet Competition. This fall, you can also spend a relaxing evening listening to extraordinary individuals speak about and share their experiences as a part of the Distinguished Speaker Series of Southern California. The series will feature speeches from John Cleese, an actor, writer, and comedian who was once a part of the legendary Monty Python troupe in the 1960s, and Ehud Barak, the current Israeli Minister of Defense and former prime minister of Israel. Both speakers will talk to audiences in Pasadena and other locations in Southern California.
