Fourteen Years Ago Almost 3,000 People Died as a Result of Terrorist Attacks
COMPLIMENTARY COPY VOLUME 19, NO. 37
BY TERRY MILLER I was supposed to visit my ailing father in New York early September 2001. My family had decided later in year would be better for visiting, when his cancer treatments were at a minimum. Of course, it would be much later due to the fact that no aircraft was to fly into or around New York for many days post 9/11. I managed to get the last seat on a Jet Blue flight to Kennedy on Sept. 26. The aircraft was full, many service men and women; firefighters and National Guard. It was a somber flight indeed. I visited my parents but, as a photojournalist, my quest to get down to “ground zero” was pressing. SEE PG. 8

Arcadia Officials Respond to Document Connecting Councilman With Gemcoin CEO
Planning Commission Denies Hollis Lane Scheme
BY JOE TAGLIERI Arcadia Council Member John Wuo on Wednesday denied having a connection to an active company involving the founder of a controversial cryptocurrency known as Gemcoin. Though he declined requests for an interview, via text messaging Wuo said he told George Klau, the CEO of Arcadia-based 24 HD Surveillance, to remove his name from documents filed with the California Secretary of State. Wuo also indicated that

Klau could not be reached for comment. The "statement of information" document sur-

The Arcadia city planners denied Marvin Fong’s plan for a large development at 2236 Hollis Lane. The proposed project was four times larger than the existing property, which upset a grassroots group effort to prevent “mansionization.” “Continuance of Modification No. MP 14-14 and Single-Family Architectural Design Review No. SFADR 14-95 with a Categorical Exemption under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) for a new two-story, Craftsman-style residence with an attached
two-car garage at 2236 Hollis Lane.” This item was continued from the Aug. 11, 2015, meeting. The Planners cited the applicant’s lack of effort in working to find a middle ground between the developer and neighbors who strongly opposed the project. There is a five working day appeal period after the approval/denial of the applications. The applicant will likely appeal the decision. Appeals are to be filed by 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2015.
