Huntington Memorial Hospital Faces Multiple Agency Investigations

By Terry Miller It hasn’t been a good couple of weeks for Huntington Hospital. Actually the year thus far has brought more than its fair share of negative publicity to one of California’s preeminent hospitals. First, the California Nurses’ Association’s (CNA) unionization efforts were seemingly thwarted by RNs who stood by the hospital and the management of HMH. Then, more recently, two nurses fired from the hospital claim the sacking was a direct result of their efforts to unionize. In March, Beacon Media published scores of letters from community members and Registered Nurses on both sides of the issue of unionization. In the final analysis, there were 539 votes against union representation and 445 in favor, with 175 “challenged” ballots pending resolution. The election results will not be finalized until all other charges against Hun-

Some San Gabriel Residents Playing Dirty Pool For the fourth year in a row, two Los Angeles County vector control districts are tackling potentially dangerous, invasive mosquitoes and the public health agencies are asking residents for help. The Greater Los Angeles County Vector Control District (GLACVCD) and the San Gabriel Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District (SGVMVCD) have been working together since 2011 to control these invasive mosquitoes. LASD Seeks Assault Suspect Impersonating Peace Officer in Duarte

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Temple Station detectives are seeking a male suspect who impersonated a peace officer and assaulted a female victim in the 1400 block of Buena Vista Street, Duarte, on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015, at approximately 10:50 p.m. A lone female driver was pulled over by an unmarked sedan with flashing red and blue lights. She was contacted by the suspect, a 40-50 yearold male white adult, who was dressed in a green “polo” style shirt similar to police officers. The suspect threatened
to arrest the victim and without provocation, physically assaulted her. The victim sustained minor injury. The suspect then drove east on the 1300 block of Central Avenue, City of Duarte, and out of view. The suspect’s vehicle is described as a light colored, late model, full size, four-door sedan with tinted windows. Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Temple Sheriff’s Station at (626) 285-7171. If SEE PG. 17
