Tzeitel ParasCaracci Elected Mayor of Duarte Duarte City Council members voted unanimously to elect Tzeitel Paras-Caracci, Mayor for 2014-2015 and Sam Kang, Mayor Pro Tem during the annual reorganization of the Duarte City Council at the November 25, 2015 meeting. Mayor Paras-Caracci was first elected to the City Council in 2001. She has previously served as Mayor in both 2005 and 2010. She is also a current Board Member for both Foothill Transit and the Gold Line Construction Authority, and has served in the past as president of APAMO (Asian Pacific American Municipal Officials) and a board member for both the National League of Cities and League of California Cities. The newest member of the City Council, Samuel Kang, a healthcare, IT project manager and a former Economic Development Commissioner was voted unanimously to serve as Mayor Pro-Tem. In addition to his duties on the Council, Kang serves as the official Council representative to the Duarte Community Services Council, the Foothill Employment and Training Consortium, the San Gabriel Valley Economic Partnership, and is also a member of the League of California Cities Asian Pacific Islander Caucus. BY SUSAN MOTANDER Monroviaās first Fire Engine, a 1917 Seagrave Triple, is being restored by Tired Iron Works largely with funds from an anonymous donor and additional assistance from other members of the community. The vintage engine is now in running order, its body has been restored and repainted, and even the seat has been reupholstered. But additional funds are still needed for the final restoration which
includes purchasing very special solid rubber tires; not a small expense. For the rubber truly to meet the road, more assistance is needed. The engine is now owned by the Monrovia Firefightersā Association and no public funds have been used in its purchase and restoration. The engine was first ordered by the city after the largest hotel in town burned down in 1916. It was the top of
Leondra Kruger Appointed By Gov. Brown to Calif. Supreme Court Leondra R. Kruger has been selected by Governor Brown for a vacancy on the California Supreme Court. The Governorās nomination will be submitted to the State Barās Commission on Judicial Nominees Evaluation and must be confirmed by the Commission on Judicial Appointments. Ms. Kruger is a member of the Washington, D.C. and California Bar Associations and is admitted to argue before the U.S. Supreme Court. āIt is exciting to learn that Leondra Kruger has

A 31 year-old Monrovia woman died on Monday evening at Arcadia Methodist Hospital while on life support. Earlier in the day, the young woman had been transported to the hospital by paramedics after they received a call to her home where she was reportedly found unconscious. Panos Hawandjian was arrested on Monday
by Monrovia Police and charged with 273.5a , Domestic Violence. Hawandjian was the party who originally called for assistance. When the woman, whose name is not being released in deference to the family, died, the Los Angeles County Sheriffās Departmentās Homicide Bureau took over the investigation at the request
of the Monrovia P.D. according to officials in that department. The Los Angeles County Coronerās office has yet to conduct a full autopsy and so no cause of death has yet been announced. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriffās Dept., Homicide Division.
